robbie
I have heard so much about the legendary Ryoma driver that i had to try one out for myself !!!! I started with a 8.5 ...nothing special to write home about, very low launch and low spin head...forgiveness...naw nothing special, just a nice looking very low spin driver...I picked up a 9.5 with crazy cb-46, this setup was pretty uninspiring, very average and i hated the shaft, i couldnt get the kick down, it did hit some very nice balls but that was like 1:20 would be good....I got another Ryoma with 9.5 and put in an Attas 8s, this combo was pretty good, average in length, feel, forgiveneess, but very handsome club...i figured that was it....But i had another club arrive from HK, a 10.5 shafted with a graphite design MD 06 SR flex, and this is when i first got a taste of Ryoma MAGIC !!! it felt awesome, hit high soaring bombs, was unaffected by the wing, face was hot everywhere....Wow...it went straight from the box onto the first tee and now into my bag.....Oh and i finally got a taste of the prgr egg....that club sounds weird but man it performs ...it performs ....it performs.....long, straight, easy to hit...... +TourSpecGolfer
Awesome & congrats Robbie! You really had to go the long route I wish you would have saw it sooner. It's a fantastic maybe the best head out there provided you can find the shaft that brings it out and it looks like you did.
DaleUK
How's the feel compared to the Epon102??
mygreenaliem
Hey Robbie - sounds like you been going on the same driver journey as me (nice to know there are others out there trying all sorts). It's a special moment when it clicks.
robbie
The feel is incredible when you connect, it feels so explosive that i am very surprised that the ball didnt go further......I played at my normal course and it was stunning !!!! I hit the ball in the same places as my longest drive ever on those holes or close to it.....ive played probably 200 rounds at Cinnabar and i probably equaled my career best on 5 of the holes and was within 10 yards on another 6 of them......This was a great driving day, it wasnt crazy long and i cant say i have gotten longer with this setup but i can say that my average driving distance went way up and i hit more good drives than normal !!!! My normal driving day is 2 bombs, 4-5 long drives and 5 average ones and a couple of bad drives.....With the Ryoma, i got about 10 long ones and a couple avg drives and one stinker, haha and even that went ok....... But even though that driver is in the bag, i still like looking and trying for the next holy grail !
bruinduke
Haha Robbie, I still can't you believe you beat me to that magic stick!!!! Congrats tho. It is probably for the best tho. I had an opportunity come up afterwards to find my potential "grail" and I probably couldn't have pulled the trigger if I got to the ryoma before you. robbie
Did u get the magic Yammy from stew in 10 deg.....oh that is definitely holy grail material !!!!!!!

Yuganjay
Can't agree you more. I was using Katana Hi Cor, it's far, easy to hit, but feel like cheating. Until received Ryoma Premia with original shaft, much straighter, not affected by wind, and even farer. So excited to play par 5s...
Chanaa
Welcome to the dark side robbie, i had my ryoma 9.5 on cb-46, ly46 since last year - changed my game forever. Its not so much longer than epon 102 but man, the forgiveness is awesome. Miss hits still go miles with hardly any spin. Now.....getting my ryoma fitted into diamana x stiff 60g. Lowest spin combo, low trajectory...perfect for my home course which is seaside hills.
idrive
The Ryoma has change my handicap. I have never been this long, consistently. Hitting my second shot from the fairway has made my game much better.
supo
now THATS one hell of an idea the ryoma with the diamana X why didnt i think of that earlier. that might be to much of a carrot to resist.
daamartin
How would you guys compare the flight of a Ryoma Vspec 9.5 to other 9.5 degree heads? Low enough spin for someone with 105mph (and mid launch) to consider the 10.5 loft no probs? Thanks!
supo
depends on yr shaft choice. personally i prob wouldnt get it any loftier than 9.5* this with a BB 7s might be a prefect combo aswell. little higher launch shaft low low spin and supreme accuracy of the ryoma head. iahd mine with the crazy ls noir and thtas was the supreme driver. im gonna go back to that agn i was stoooopid to break that up honestly. or say in 10.5 with an attas t2 kinda thing that one cancels the other kinda thing. daamartin
I hear ya - I have a Roddio M6x proto shaft I love (performance and looks) - currently in a 9* Yamaha head but just too low - long, low fades in that head - too "one dimensional" for any "normal" golf course. Had wondered about a Ryoma head for that shaft.....

The Ryoma likes to go straight.Very little punishment for missing the sweet spot.
supo
thats why on yamaha driver heads i strongly endorce 10* heads over 9* unless u can really belt the cover off the ball consistntly to a T. if udont it will go low and right most of the time. the 9 * can be quite stressy, if u dont absolutely get it it goes right every time . if u DO get it clean tho . whoa dragon! the 9* is a low ball lama the 10* just sits ups so much nicer at address nad gives you much much more confidence. instead of changing driver heads completely , get the 10* head. unless of course u want the ultimte in forgiveness. at yr SS the 9.5 ryoma will suffice perfectly, dont go higher. and put that shaft in it thats my mates set tup.. its killer
robbie
in american heads i usally play 8.5 and in japanese heads i find 9.5 to be high but good carry....the ryoma is the first 10.5 deg head i have ever owned in my life, it flies low for me and that is with a high launch shaft with mid spin ! My swing speed is about 103-108 depending on how many days in a row i have been playing and the weather....At my age its not good to swing hard on cold days ! gbs
Funny rob that you finally found one that suits you but i am surprised that it came from a MD 6 also its SR flex. I thought you would over power it judging from what you previously play. oh well Grats anyways.

I think the reason this suits me is that i dont swing hard.....with this shaft i can only max out at about 75% of my swing and that is tops before weird things happen.....so i choke up about an inch and take a full shoulder turn and blam....ball is gone !!!!! supo
reading htis inspired me to take my ryoma out lastnight and give it another whirl built mine with a GD 9003x and cut to 44 inch jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez..., have to get used to the length agn after hittting longer drivers i had a great target to aim at. and was playing imaginary holes with this driver for about 10 mins at the end of the session. first thing is its heavy, its low as hell ,and NO spin, i had it injected with gel to get the centre of gravity DOWN specifically to play at home where i dont need alot of distance. just alot of accuracy. what i noticved was its reallyreally hard to tun it over, didnt get one to draw not one. cpl of straight pulls when i stepped on it , but no arc. other thing is i didnt slice it neither. wasnt really long at my ss BEC IT WEIGTHS SO MUCH but it was notoceabley straight. ws hittign stinger drives better then i hit big follwo thru shots im thinking this is perfect for longy and NSW. its coming home to live. the gel insertion makes a humongous differnce. the feel is great now its a real THUD and nude balls fly off the face. specific driver made and passed the test. stil think the crazy 80 ls noir is the best shaft in this head very satisfied. wouldnt reccomend hitting a lot of balls at he range with it tho its really heavy. my arm fell off this monrning . daamartin
I think Robbie's onto something.....play the shaft/setup that gets you out there straight and decent length @ "75% gas". No point playing a club you can't even hit on the days you are a bit stiff!! For me my current Roddio/ JBeam is the club that allows this. Stew, You're the man to ask this question since you've swung just about every driver/shaft combo on this planet along with some combo's found only the darkest reaches of space. You've peaked my interest in the Ryoma+LS Noir combo. What was the loft/flex of the that combo, and how would you compare that setup to mine; which is the Epon AF102/Quadra FEX proto 8.5 (+10gm wt)/75x. Curious for your thoughts. supo
yes,,,, outter reaches of space, small dungeons of tokyo. i had ur set up as well. epon 102-- quadra proto 75sx 8.5* i found that driver fantastic! i thought it was a lot friendlier than the FEX shat , the control was much better. misses werent punished anywhere near as much. it wasnt as low as i expected. i had one fantasitic round with it , i mean top round at narita , i i hit everything screws. loved this driver so i sold it. the ryoma with the ls noir is THE MOST ACCURATE driver ive ever made ever seen/hit/used/imagined. i somehow get tiny baby draws with it and flight is perfect. so i broke it up. distance... thats the thing... distance.... i didnt get what i can with others, so i found i was trying to belt it to get the extra length crunch came when i gamed this alongside the crazy cb50 same head. and the distance gap was noticeable. so too was the amount of fairways hit. ls noir, wanna hit fairways??? stick this shaft in whatever head u like. Good to know and thanks for the thoughts. Current setup is great. But with so much about the Ryoma, there is a part of me that would love to give it a whirl. Shaftwise, though; its just getting so crazy with all the new ones out there. The only thing that I would want more from the current setup in going to the Ryoma would of course be more distance. Not that its needed mind you, just that, the distance part would be the only sensible reason to go with a Ryoma. Unsensible reasons, now that can run the gamut. However along the lines of more distance I still want that accuracy and of course my no. 1; feel. If it doesn't have feel, I'm no where near interested even IF its bombing 500+ yards. For me, its got to have feel.
