Help me fill the gap between my driver and 5-iron
Spoon replied to Ara selai's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
that looks weird but i guess it fits the purpose. i can relate to the awkward stances and lies especially from the rough and targetting a fast downhill green with the pin near the water. do you ever use this from the fairway? -

cant u do that with an open 58 deg wedge? i would think 62 but 70? need to post pics of that alien stew -
Yup! Right at the edge of the cor limit.that alone makes a huge difference. As e pointed out real and true lofts. Most usdm brands are off by 1 deg some even two Degrees as the tolerances are not as good.

Wow I likemthenway you dissect your clubs. Very analytical and unbiased. I agree with stew there is no better and best and at this point it's a matter Of preference, what suits your eye and what you can get away with with your Swing. Do note your level of play, progression and where you see yourself In 6 months to one year. Are you the type to change clubs or hold on to a set? Many factors to consider and although we may point you in a certain direction You makenthe choice in the end. To sum it up I'd recommend the onoff plus forged, epon 502 or yamaha inpres d Irons. They are cavity backs that are midsize and forgiving. I liked the 502s gamed them For one year they have helped my game and I dint think they were particularly less sensitive. I actually think they are very forgiving, soft and have less vibrations on mis**ts due to the alpha gel Filled onside the hollow cavity. I came from the older epon 501 irons so the 502s were a treat. The new Onoffs are in equal terms with the 502 although others claim it even more forgiving than the epons. I cannot comment as I haven't tried those. 3o2s are the creme del a creme nothing softer out there But is the most demanding. I reckon even a 15 capper can handle it and a 20 capper can play the 8,9,pw pretty ok. I agree with your comments on the 702. They are for the beginner golfer, senior player or the guy who Wants ballistic balls . Totally different segment but a damn fine piece of golf club engineering. For it's forgiveness And distance, feel naturally is sacrificed. I actually used a 702 4 iron as part of my 502s and loved it as a 4 iron. At this point your on the right track, start narrowing your choices to 3 to 4 sets , demo them again and if there's A certain iron at the top of your list, believe me there will only be one being recalled and recalled in your brain that Would be it. Good luck and do update us.

That p9003 is really haunting me and I am thinking of getting one soon For my 360cc driver. Vie totally eliminated the di from the equation based on goodsie's Advice. Its either that one or a FEX proto 75sx. Rduffer, how does the p9003 feel? Does it feel like a full blooded x? Seems like your experimentsAre headed in the right direction. Looking forwRd to your further comments

Well welcome to the boards. Ive tread your Post it does seem dautimg doesn't it? Well For now I suggest maybe a 4wood and maybe a 20 And 23 hybrid. For the wood, nothing beats the egg 17deg. You can get them here In tsg it's stupid easy and long, or you can go with 5w , many jdm brands have easy To hit 5w so our choices are abundant. Or utes I still suggest the trc, you my have had difficulties bec of the shaft. With your ss I suggest something in the 65 or even 55 range. Or You cannery the onoffs although they seem to be for the higher ss player. Do rememberthat the shaft is key. A well suited head can quickly go wrong More than an I'll suited head with the right shaft. Choose a shaft your comfy Wth and get that in the head you like. Good luck, I'm suretheother helpful members will have useful comments on your Particular dilemma. By the way do you get ourepons from raja golf? They are the guys down at Indonesia iirc. -
Gained more distance with my irons, finding my 3, 4 ii shafts loose As well. Have them w my hybrid 950hts. May go get them swapped with the Original modus 3 like the rest of the set. As for the 9003 I actually find it on the lighter side, it's around 68 grams trimmed So the p9003 looking ever so tempting. Maybe on September. I attribute this change to my pt post injury

Lol if your 7 I was 110 you don't Need a driver or 3w. Tee off with your hybrid and ud still outdrive Mostly anyone. Driver ss mate

Email me. Nothing is too nuts unless ... Had a round today with my 302s in the worst possible Weather imaginable, wet wet wet, soggy runny fairways, Had no problems with my irons. In fact it was my 3w and wedges That dug lol.
-
3w was on fire today used int many times , had less confidence w my driver for some reason, was getting a lot Of left side attention, come to think of it I think I find the flex a bit loose, I should have tip trimmed it .5! Ah that's Water under the bridge! Maybe go down to 44.5 since it's a smaller driver head. Yes that could work indeed. Cpm is A shade under 270. Would prefer something in the 277 range at this point. Hmmm p9003

Good problem to have. If your hitting your woods that long your 17 will be useless IMHO . I found it too long and I'm not as long as You. Let us know how it goes I'm actually thinking of getting a 22 deg hybrid, actually picked up a yonex which I will reshaft to steel, prob is don't have it yet. Will update you soon.

Guys just to update, have tries the f7m2 and was the worst feeling of the bunch, was heavy and stout Very glassy and found the low launch mid high kick too much to handle and I felt I could not load it Properly with my tempo. The fire express was alright, no bells and whistles like their driver shaft offerings, find that their fw shafts Are mediocre considering the price points. I guess I am the only one that thinks this. Value is relative but IMHO their are better performing shafts at half the price. I felt that the best feeling ones were the graphite designs. They are smooth feeling superb driver shafts. I briefly tried an md6 but found it too light, if I gone up to md7 wouldn't have solved the prob as it's still relatively Mid launch mid spin, similar to the f6m2 but miles ahead in the feel department. Graphite design tour ad di, very very good probably the 2nd best around, nice smooth smooth feel , launch is not As high as you think, orthose getting too high a flight your using too weak a flex, traj should be boring. Got tons Of rollout which is good for me but may not what you want when attacking pin. The winner, old faithful quattro green. Feels like the friendlier buddy of the DI yet more stable. Playing the 75s W a cpm of280 but feels loads happier than any ofbthe above shafts w the exception of the Di. So here you have it, sometimes newer not necessarily the best. I had this same shaft in an epon 201 back in 07, I've Forgotten how good it feels.

E so whats the skinny, have you decided on what set your getting or potentially Eyeing? I agree with Jeff on the bending thing have done it a lot with my wedges Most especially in my 52 and 58. 2 deg bending down will increase bounce by 2 deg, Doesn't sound much but makes a world of difference. In fact I just bent my RC 58 into A 60 to make it more playable in the softer wet conditions locally.

I know the feeling very well. Enjoy the new clubs. I'm very curious on that p9003 shaft, vie got the 9003. Might get one for my other driver. Speaking of drivers, your not gaming anyway w your 3 wedge setup I count 15 Clubs.

cant relate guys hopefully in the next season or two i will see the light

i agree, i however am the reason why most of my buds and playing partners have jdm gear. it is an advantage defintely swing for swing. when i had my first taste of fire express love and immediately saw the difference. even my dad can hang with the young guns who drive their ball in the 290 -300 range. ofcourse he doesnt outdrive them but is around 10-15 yards behind. his friend initially commented that his EMS quadra fex combo is illegal. oh well at their age they are no longer equipment inspectors like in the old days. nice to think of what lies ahead in terms of technological advancement. i however would like them to start making sub 400cc drivers again with all the bells and whistles.
-
Damn! Spotless they area! Mine have hit under100 andvthey look vintage already. I thinkmi willmhaveto snag that none off you
-
they look alright, have forgotten about the oxidation. after a week you just tend to accept and forget. no worse than my kenmochis. these have significanly reduced my spin, especially on my quarter and half shots. making a big adjustment. these would be perfect if they were non conforming. oh well not complaining, just have to work more on my technique
-
that looks very very clean, unlike my raw protos that look very used:( pretty excited for the results of your shootout
-
jeff is right, it will wear like normal irons with the exception of face and sole but that is normal as those areas are contact areas.
-
your going to love that P9003 shaft. planning on getting one for my other sub 400cc driver. let us know how it goes.
