frank, ive had all those models, current favorite is the 502 and 302. had the 502 full set but decided i also liked the 302 but not brave enough to use it on the longer clubs so i got a combo set consisting of af702 4i, 5-7 502 and 8-pw 302 then i adjusted the lofts to match. they were originally my dads but he changed to the 702s with the quadra graphite iron shafts. i have other current sets which evolve around my epons like the yonex and onoff cb247 but the epon is really my main set. many here have testimonials on their different models and a lot of the members here swear by them. now choosing your particular model is all up to you. choose what your most comfy with and what your eye is attracted to and heart yearns for. as for the finish, i can say definitively that do not get the black! it will fade after 2 rounds. the copper is the prettiest but its a costly upgrade, feel will be minute difference, sure it will fade on the face and sole but will age marvelously if taken care off. idrive has been using his for years and he still loves them. now the current models are sort of a combo of satin and light chrome that is very durable as well. i have never encountered an epon set that has yet to exhibit finishing problems. the shiny finish doesnt bother me but i would prefer satins, small upgrade but i wouldnt shell extra, id take it the way epon meant it to be. as for the shafts, case to case basis, my dad has tried a variety of shafts in his several epon sets like machline, axiv, graphite design tour ad 65/75 and currently the quadras. by rank, feel and performance: quadra, axiv, machline and surprisingly the GD at last place. the quadras are superb even i an s300 user can hit them. although i would game their heavier versions. have no experience with the crazyies so cannot comment on those. PM gocchin on the right graphite shaft for you. surprised you dont own an epon set yet!

well to some it up Honma especially the 5 star models are a status symbol. the more stars you have the more bling factor you got. mostly older chaps, politicians and generals game them where i am from. Also they would make expensive gifts for Ceos and Vips and i know for a fact that the 5 stars are relaible gifts if you want to get the job done or what to impress someone:) as good as they are( some of them pretty good) , you wont see serious jdm fanatics gaming these. the more serious ones who know there golf wont see the point in gold inlay and the level of customization bling honma can dish out. and i have seen 4-5 star honma users that cant break 100 and dont know what torque and lie angle is. its all about the bling as Idrive mentioned

They're Here! Yonex 380cc Ryo Edition!
Spoon replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
i want one! i would love someone to review this driver though, i can certainly do a 410-420, havent really gamed a 380 in recent times but if the reviews are good why not. im more inclinded to get this one over the ryoma! -
very nice review! i was close to purchasing a RC wood but got the yamaha instead which i havent used yet. that must be sone sick combo with the gdp9003x! monster mini driver of the tee. like the way you used the word harmonious which is the holy grail feel of JDM clubs.
-
the sonartec and the rc look identical except for the sole. i was always curious about the RC wood and hybrid. was so close on pulling the trigger on a 3 wood. if i hadnt found the yamaha i would certainly be gaming one. let us know how it goes.

This looks fun!

nice, for the price they can add a custom paint color scheme! i would get one if i had kids or was a touring pro. we do a lot of out of town trips and a large suv sometimes gets be clausterphobic -
i could easily see myself saving 2-3 strokes in tournament play when the stakes are high and you have to do a delicate bump and run in a downward facing green. had my share of disastrous shots over the years. i should have bagged this a long time ago!
-
there is no new version. i dont think they can improve on this design imho.
-
i like their putter and the raw black wedge. i could use a 50*! nice clean looking products
-
ive always wanted to get one of those r55 wedges. been wanting one since 07. they will surely outperform many of my wedges, especially from the fringe. dont be too hard on yourself
-
yup the pros are good, built one last week with the pro tours 130gram and they are really almost like the SP blues, although the sp blues feel smoother.

i had the previous model the tourstage air muscle 19*. found it great of the tee but terrible off the deck. i was comparing this with the af901 which i had at the same time and still have now and the epon is much more forgiving. there are more and better options available at the moment.
-
i was actually going to post asking about a hybrid shaft. im planning on getting a 19 ute and will most likely pull the shaft. my options right now are the graphite design tour ad ut 85s, ozik altus or even the tour ad di but that shaft costs as much as a hybrid:) any suggestions ?
-
nice, i envy you. golf golden week with some new toys! priceless and you have the bags to accompany you. let us know how it goes, im surprised i dont see your egg 17* all arounder and the yamaha 14deg. your combos must be forminable to kick those outta the bag

were you able to bend the lie for the longer shafts? i notice that i like my hybrids a bit on the flatter side. no problem with the adams though as you can bend the hosels.

Supo67's Honma Revolution Driver Session
Spoon replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
no doubt about it. you were hitting good shots with the first driver with the second one i clearly hear you say, " oh that felt terrible i hit that in the toe?" then one tweak with the tool and voila. good observations about the shaft, armrqq very very expensive and i wouldnt be surprised if quadra makes them either, one doesnt usually pull out an expensive armrq and change it for another shaft. can anyone comment on where armrq is made? so stew whats the verdict, you going to game any of these? there goes the one month bag -
good observation and well founded. i have tried that route long ago did not work with me 16* at least. back then though my swing was a mess so could be a culprit as well. you still using the pnt2 16* i sent ya awhile back? i have two woods now the 14* 3 wood yamaha and a 17deg 3w egg spoon. havent tried the yamaha but the egg spoon is already very very easy to hit and its longer than i could hit any hybrid, it has some drawback though like off the tee and from thick rough. something where a hybrid would stellarly perform. i have been tinkering between a driving iron hybrid and a hybrid hybrid for 19* right now i am using a hybrid iron but it may be replaced soon provided i can find a nice yamaha 18/19 deg ute.

great review stew, its amazing how tweaking the face angle in the end made such a difference from your previous shots! easy 295 -
Nippons are a good choice, they are known for their superb feel. with all their model offerings there is bound to be one fit right for you. youl first have to determine what weight, flex you are comfortable with.

still looking guys, 50 or 52 and 56

wow is all i can say. im surprised you did not gobble up the whole lot! and back full circle to the 2009 egg:) congrats and looking forward to the pics. Wedges sound interesting

Ryoma Premia 9.5 with Crazy CB-46 First Look
Spoon replied to bogeydog's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
comgrats it looks like your due diligence paid off. hardest part is getting the right shaft, and with the crazy, if can really break the bank if you dont get it right the first , 2nd or even 3rd time. Thanks for the inputs i could defintely use a half a flex softer on the crazy. concentrating on something with higher mid/high launch with low spin. -
understandable:) what loft did you choose?

Ryoma Premia 9.5 with Crazy CB-46 First Look
Spoon replied to bogeydog's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
nice review, im eyeing the v 9.5 but i think the problem is the shaft selection for this particular head. i love my quadra fex 102 combo and dont want to touch this so may experiment in a crazy. did not have a good experience with crazy the first time around, will defintely research more on a suitable crazy. thing is its daunting as they have soo many choices. want one with specs as close to to the weight, torque and launch of the quadra fex 65s -
