  1. The RomaRo stuff is def worth a shot. Copper 302s would be right up there. I either want to sell mine and buy copper or have mine refinished this winter. I personally am not enamored with the Yamaha aesthetics but I am sure they are a fabulous iron. I just ordered a combo set of Ray H and Pro Forged from RomaRo I am pretty stoked about.
  2. Love my Egg/FW80 combo. Feels like every single bit of energy is being transmitted to the ball on impact. I just got done playing 9 with a buddy and my next to last shot was a career 3W into par 5 green from 230 or so to 5-6 feet from pin. That shot won me some bills.
  3. What's your transition like? What is your normal miss? What do you normally play? With that SS you may be ok depending how you load the shaft with your swing. If you're a super smooth swinger I would probably steer clear. The high modulus stuff seems to play a little stiffer than it feels IMO. I've noticed with my HM stuff that the feel leads you to believe its a softer shaft so I don't get after it so much but then I lose it right. Took me a little getting used to. Once I did though its really the best of both worlds. But I definitely wouldn't want an 80T shaft that was too stiff for me.
  4. Yeah I have had 302s for a couple 3 months. I like them an awful lot, performance is stellar and I have been playing great with them, but you know how it is. I am finalizing an order for some "sexy" MBs that are probably too much for me to play every day, but am also looking at picking up a set of "high tech" CBs that could be my play for money set along with the 302s. I don't ho much on the FW woods, drivers, wedges, etc. Putters and irons are my kryptonite. From my polling of people I know that have them, the quality is top notch.
  5. Boy that's a beauty and set up almost perfect for me. The KPX broke me of driver ho'ing for now though so GLWS.
  6. Who here is playing these that can give some feedback on them? I am intrigued by them for an every day gamer iron but was concerned about distance consistency given the undercut cavity, thin face, insert, etc. Beautiful looking irons like all the RomaRos.
  7. Maybe they are concerned that someone is going to forget to use epoxy
  8. For as much as I don't really care for the Egg's looks or sound, it still is probably my favorite all time club. 3W has been the bane of my existence for a long time. Used to hit a hot low slice off the deck all the time. Now I just bomb it straight. I have an FW80 in mine and it only plays 42.5" so it is deadly accurate, although I don't really think any longer than any other 3Ws I have had recently. I hit it twice yesterday and it was dead quiet/still on the course...I think everyone on the course was trying to figure out what the *#$& the noise was. I have found a little lead tape on the back of the head quiets it down nicely and lowers ball flight a smidge. The RC and Yamaha are definitely more visually and audibly appealing that's for sure. As for working the ball with a 3W on a 220 yard approach shot....I will be honest and tell you I am just hoping to hit it straight and at the green, let alone trying to pick a place on the green to land it. I will leave that for the guys getting paid to play. Our greens are small enough around here that it is hard enough to hit & hold them with a 9 iron let alone a 3W!
  9. Did you not get along with the egg spoon?
  10. TSG: Escort Service 302s withdrawn
  11. I believe the answer to your question was in his non-answer. It's pretty clear that Epon and Yamaha irons could be made in either Japan or one of their foreign plants. It actually says a lot though if Epon trusts their foreign foundries to produce perhaps the 2 most prized and revered iron brands in the world. Including their own house brand. Not that that assuages your feelings of being somewhat misled.
  12. I have Yururi wedges in transit...and was a hair's breadth away from ordering a set of raw flatbacks the other day. They have something about them that is pretty unique. I want to play these raw wedges first and see what I think....I wish they made the raw iron in a bit more playable form factor....I am not good enough to play the flatbacks every day.
  13. Maybe we could find someone to build us a "find my golf club" program like the iPhone has? I am willing to take on a lot of the responsibility of doing this as well, since it was my idea and because I think it would be a great deal if we can get it streamlined and organized so it isn't a big cluster once it gets going. It would be relatively simple to lay out a grid schedule and assign a first club to each member, distribute the grid to each member with everyone's name and address, so it would be easy to A) See what club was coming next and B) See to who and where you need to ship the club you have. I would also assign dates to the grid/schedule so each person got an allotted time with each club, then it would be marked like a calendar showing when it needed to be moved on. Once the calendar was laid out it probably would be easy enough to have automatic email reminders set up to go out to all members reminding them to send off their club. I think each person should just be responsible for paying the shipping for when they send each club off. To address some of the questions above, I don't think full sets of clubs would be feasible, I was just thinking single clubs. The reasoning behind everyone choosing one specifically and buying it would be that at least it would have a home instead of building a bunch of "stock" type irons that in the end aren't really suited...to anyone. Of course if Chris is willing to throw in a bunch of clubs then in that case I'm pretty much fine with whatever we were to get. I don't think it would be difficult to pull together a comprehensive list of the irons most would want to try. Most of the usual suspects, along with the interesting new releases would sure be a good start. 6 or 7 irons and any 50 thru 56 degree wedges would be my personal choices. My original thought as well was that it may be difficult to do this internationally due to shipping costs, transit time, customs issues, etc. If we were able to form "continental" groups and then divide the available demo clubs into how ever many groups we have and rotate them all at once it would end up working out pretty well I think. I would have to think that it wouldn't be terribly hard to put this together in a reasonable amount of time if we can get a head count and figure out a few of the details.
  14. I'm not not telling anyone to build any suspense I just don't have everything completely finalized
  15. Of course I just got done walking 9 playing the 302s and had my best iron play 1/2 round of the year. 39 without a single good drive. Which is normally my strength. Anytime I put something on the BST I play great with it. Still debating.......
  16. You're probably right.
  17. Kyoei forged I believe. Stunning visually. Great performing.

  20. I wonder how long the etching or milling is going to have an effect on a person's gamer irons...ever see how fast the milling wears off a Vokey?
  21. Fellow TSG'ers, I was wanting to put together a group of reputable TSG members who would be interested in forming a network in which each member buys a finished club(s) that they have been interested in trying. Once they have evaluated it, they will then make it available to the network to be passed around and evaluated, a week or two at a time. I think this would be an outstanding way to get to try the products we find most interesting without having to gamble on buying a whole set. Granted not every build is going to suit every individual in the network, I understand that, but a lot of general impressions can be gathered from trying a club even if it isn't set up perfectly for the person using it. Tario has been gracious enough to sponsor the program by offering a special price on finished clubs to be used in the network testing. I would like to do this on the honor system, but I also have considered a system in which each person "buys" the club from the previous tester via paypal, then is "reimbursed" when they pass it onto the next interested tester or back to the original owner. There would need to be some basic rules, and I have thought of a few: 1) To be in the network and eligible to receive a club to try, you must always have a demo club available for others to try. So let's say I ordered a 7i from the RomaRo Pro Forged set and then decided I liked it so much I wanted to buy all the other irons to make a set. That would take my demo club out of the network, thus I would need to replace it. 2) Any incidental damage to a club like a torn up grip, etc. should be fixed in a timely manner before sending the club on. If serious damage were to occur, the owner of the club should be contacted immediately and fair restitution made. Accidents do happen but whoever is in possession of the club is entirely responsible for it. 3) The owner will be notified each time one of their clubs changes hands even if it is the 37th time it has been paid forward. It would be disconcerting to want a club back and have to track it down thru every person had it. The club should probably have the owner's info on it maybe on one of those little shaft bands or something. 4) Each person in the network would have a spot in their WITB or sig stating which demo club they were in possession of and testing, and which demo club they owned and had available for testing. This would help with communication and knowing who had what clubs. 5) There would be a closed forum on this board available only to those in the network solely for the purpose of organizing club trials and communication amongst network members. All relevant club performance reviews, discussion, opinions, should be housed in an open "Pay it Forward" forum where all TSG members and lurkers can read about the clubs being tested. I am sure there are other things to discuss as well. I am not sure how to necessarily qualify people to be in it. If we did the paid for version it wouldn't be as big of a deal but if we do the honor system I would think at the very least we would want a couple of 3rd party vouches and an eBay profile for feedback. I know we have a good group here on TSG but a club inevitably will disappear and I am trying to think of what the best way to handle that is. I would like your thoughts and ideas as well as I would love to get something like this going, especially with all the great new stuff coming out.
  22. Good stuff RI. Change candy to golf clubs and it would be a representation of the average TSG'er. And Tario is the crazy friend that helps you spend the money. Good parallel here.
  23. So much candy...so little money
  24. It doesn't bother me AS LONG AS they aren't pretending its all made in Japan and they demonstrate explicitly that the same standards, materials, and workmanship are used. For instance if Epon tells us they are making some of their clubs in Thailand and everything is exactly the same as their plant in Japan then I don't care. If companies are having a lot of this done overseas and are trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes like its all done in Japan then I have an issue with it and wouldn't be likely to buy that company's product. If companies such as Ryoma and Kamui works that market the small company hand made appeal were proven to make their stuff in China I'd be reluctant to buy their product.
