Pretty much, term U groove means the leading edges of the box groove are radiused (instead of a sharp right angle into the groove wall, it slopes in a curve blunting the groove edge), this results in less ball cover damage while maintaining high spin rates (some say you can't notice the difference) that's a generic 'square groove', a box groove has the sharp edges, also referred to as a square groove (as by definition) The Ping grooves are radiused and this is what caused the square groove controversy with the Eye 2's...... USGA stated the groove started at the start of the sloping of the radiused edge. Karsten stated the starting point was the vertical point of the groove wall . they setlled after the cout case for the 30% rule to measure groove spacing on radiused U grooves Result was by USGA interpretation the grooves were too closely packed together being illegal. Found this on the web Personally, having used Pings both legal and illegal, other radiused grooved clubs and many other box grooved wedges, the box grooves do impart more spin than rediused U and V grooves,. much more and on the downside it wrecks Pro V's and other soft balls. the profile of the square groove allows greater volumetric space for ball cover to flow into providing more grip between the ball & club, the sharp edges increase this by digging into the cover (as seen in the cover damage) allowing for higher spin rate generation I find as a wedge ages you notice the spin rates fall off as groove edges blunt and 'spread' bottom line is you can't spin a Pro V heavily with a sand weary Vokey

By the sounds of things, you are fanning the short club face open on takeaway which results in an severe inside plane backswing. Result is if you go up inside and narrow, you come over the top and wide down. You have to reverse this. Take the short club back straight out and wide on the takeaway, you'll find you'll come down the inside and on plane.

Watch out for a reverse pivot, shifting the weight from the left foot to the right on the downswing. Your head position moving is a sign the weight is moving too, Haribo's got it, that's the major cause.

Some key points: Players who generate massive amounts of spin on the ball usually have great wrist action through impact. Their swings as mentioned are steep descending blows into the back of the ball then down through the turf. You tend to find 'hitters' rather than 'sweepers' get a lot of action on the ball. Switch to a softter covered ball, I've found the Callaway HX Blue to be the best. Buy a wedge with box grooves packed up to the legal limit (not V grooves). if you look at wedges in the pro shop some groove appear to be further apart on some brands. Zodia wedges get a good write up here for spin rates. Getting spin on half / quarter shots, is slightly different, here you need to nip the bottom circumference of the ball (in effect getting the leading edge under the ball while dragging the clubface over the bottom quarter of the ball) still with a fairly steep angle of attack, there isn't a technique, it's an artform, requires immense touch and control as it comes down to handspeed, rapid acceleration through the impact zone. Like pool, you want to hit the same part of the golf ball as you would a cue ball with the cue tip to get screw back Equipment is the first big step, the rest you'll have to change your short game. Get a wedge with tightly packed box grooves and play a softer ball and hit down, don't sweep forward.

I emailed the iron factory about regrooving and refinishing cobalt heads and got no reply.
  6. Well you roughly know where he lives so he should be traceable from around the courses and pro-shops in the area (spotty little d**ks like this hang around shops bugging pro's all the time, probably bragging about their rip offs) If it was my cash, when I caught up with him he'd then be selling his clubs for real to pay for reconstructive surgery and skin grafts, he'd have no need for golf equipment anymore. Be warned, don't rip me off.. I'll find you and I'll torture you.... and later, much later... I'll find you again and repeat this process indefinitely.

  8. Maybe that's why he won his first major recently, necessity... to bail his ass out of a hole. I think having all the money he had he'd avoid gambling! Best place for him to claw such dough back is on the course, two or three wins! Sounds like he's in big trouble! Callaway is the IMF of the pro golfing world :smile1:
  9. It's not the first time Cally has bailed someone out, they did the same with Daly and his gambling debts
  10. Momentum1 = Mass1 (golf club ) x velocity1.(club head speed) A golf club hitting the ball is an inelastic collision so some energy is lost but conservation of the rest of the momentum means Momentum 2 (slightly less than Mom1) = mass2 ...of the golf ball (which is a constant) x velocity2 (speed of the ball) providing you can can keep your swing speed constant or increase it you should see distance increases too with heavier clubs Inertia means heavier heads will be less likely to twist offline (hardly noticable though) That's in theory, in reality, the extra weight may affect club takeaway speed, position at the top of the swing plane and so on.. you need to have the physique to handle it and the swing Interestingly a lot of the golf aid products (swing trainers are very heavy). I personally think you should go a little heavier. The manufacturers don't. Chris, what's the heaviest swing weight you've seen in clubs you supply ??
  11. looks like an 8 or a 9, I couldn't tell. Wondering how heavy the head is ???
  12. Lightrider, Stampings don't help you hole putts...it's completely cosmetic so God only knows what you're talking about 'design', half of Camerons were stolen from Ping anyway. I know your girlfriend wouldn't buy or sport a Prada design that was stolen from GAP, would she ??? Which leads me to believe that Cameron Collectors are thicker and more gullible than women! Therefore your argument would have to be a massive collection of $60 Pings as they are the true paragons of iconic design not the Camerons, agreed?? and as to people buying cameron headcovers as a fashion design statement on the golf course (as it serves no other purpose than to protect the putter) I'd say go and spend some money of Hugo Boss golf wear, you'll make 10x the impression than a silly Mickey Mouse embroidery on a headcover hiding in your golf bag...... it's equivelent of getting a tattoo inside your rectum or under your foreskin, just plain daft. You may as well stuff 300 dollars up your arse, or the grip itself... that's how silly it is...no more ludicrous than owning the Britney fart in a ziplok bag Lightrider, there is no logical defence to the craziness that is Cameron collectables... next thing you know the bubble wrap they come in will be Scotty dogged/ Loser stamped selling for $1,000 on ebay.

I'm with Canadian Mike on that, I think I'd rather have d'em titties in my bag than the wedges (sometimes I play like a tit), is that your missus breal ?? Can someone morph the Maru jpg with the dialogue boxes with Breals avatar pointing to the obvious feature benefits (tour cleavage grind, box spin flange tittie wedge set fitted with Nipple Pro 950's - I'm playing extra stiff, butt trimmed) ?
  14. Just think it's been overplayed, the whole Cameron thing, clubs is bad enough but headcovers for $300... that's crazy and the grip is just as bad. 15 years ago nearly every grip on tour was a Ping Man regardless of putter make, people used everyday Ansers , Zebras and Bullseyes. Strange how the Vokey wedge isn't privy to this extreme craziness. The 970 woods are probably the only Titleist collectable that reflects their rarity and are reasonably priced (compared to a grip for gods sake!) Yes, I think scotty cameron is a bit of fraud, 90% of his designs are stolen and he relies on this gimmicky stamping and headcover/pitch mark repairer racket to market his stuff... maybe that's where his genius lies, allowing others to take extremely large sums of money off idiots for not much in return other than to boost his brand name and charge over the odds for his off the peg stuff in Pro shops. Am I being too harsh ?? His putters are nice though, overpriced in my book but his ego is running wild with this stamping and prototyping caper. Its exploitation of the weak minded.
  15. I guess the golfing world has gone mad. Given Cameron has created this great aura of collectability around his product but like any good antiques or classic car dealer will tell you, market saturation and availability dictate prices. Given there are about a thousand Cameron models of putter out there and even more headcovers, people who buy these are really really stupid, the market is flooded with supposed unique cameron crap I may have a a collectable green suede cover, but the two ball in front has the mickey and the four ball in front of him has a' poo-pooing scotty dog' stamped pro Platinum and so on. It's so passe it's pathetic.... fools and their money are easily parted. Personally I think it's more Kool Aid and TSG'er should be beyond this type of crap. Expensive putter headcovers ain't going to make you play better, aren't going to turn heads on the course and are really just for bragging rites sake in my book. Neither is a grip... now good hardware is a different story ... the import stuff we buy isn't overtly overpriced in relation to the mods, cosmetics and extra quality of materials/workmanship we pay for (although some members need a slap with their tour issue fansination, but it's not out of control like this cameronmania!) Anyone agree ??
  16. hi Chris, an ebay rating system on B/S/T may work, myself I don't do business with anybody without 100% recommendation on ebay and would be the same here I think that would work. :o
  17. Just looks like an E with tungsten poured into the sole hollows, any idea what the loft reads??? 8.5 degree... my graphics card is s**t and I can;'t make it out
  18. Thanks Chris, it was the little black and white Titleist shaped logo tag with a 'name' strip on the back. Any pics of the new bag ?? Might have to upgrade :smile1: after 3 months
  19. Hi Chris, mines fell off my bag, can you get one of these as a replacement? Bag just doesn't feel the same. :o

As far as a I know the 5.5 was never touted by Titleist, when I ordered my 6.5, the 5.5 wasn't on the catalogue... it was a tour only/long driving team issue head I think... comparing the heads the lower the loft, the more solid they feel... my 983E 7.5 feels terrible, like a big empty soup can.
  21. Full club or head. PM me, thanks!
  22. Thanks MM, I'm going to email TM to see if they can find anything on the serial number, I want to know what the shaft is on this thing because it feels like a fence post.
  23. Anybody sitting on one they'd like to sell ?? Cheers.
