  1. Anyone played the original Fire Express and the MAX WBQ (not Proto) in the same weight category and preferably same head? If yes, please share your experiences in terms of launch, spin, dispersion and your take on feel. Thanks.
  2. I just noticed a few online shops in Japan offering the T.388 with a REGULAR flex stock GD shaft. Any idea of the swing speed ranges for the R,SR and S flex stock shafts?
  3. I've always liked the design of Fourteen clubs btw... very clean, pure lines and design.. Zen like to a certain degree. I just never got on well with them from a performance pov.
  4. Thanks for this Chris. I have no doubt all the R&D, design and other IP is done in Japan. I'm just wondering if these designs and processes are shared in , for example, Endo's Thai forging plant as is the J.I.S. standards for steel and if so, is a Thai Endo forged product then inferior to a Japan Endo forged product? The same analogy extends to any JDM brand that maybe produces in Taiwan, Thailand or China. Or is it perhaps the machinery for the specific forging process is trademarked and patented and only exists in Japan and not exported to ex-Japan production plants which Endo or any other JDM brand may have and hence cannot be produced ex-Japan? I ask because if the Japan derived IP (R&D, design etc) and necessary machinery are indeed exported to ex-Japan production plants, then there should not be a difference and premium for "Made in Japan" as the key premium proposition for JDM is in the IP (R&D, design etc which all can accept and understand) and less so in the production assuming all the necessary processes and machinery to ensure same QC, finish and overall final product outcome. JDM will still be a premium to say a TM or a Titty or TourEdge assuming you one believes JDM design is better. Going back to the automotive analogy, I think this is being done hence a buyer of say a 535 made in Germany is equally comfortable with a 535 made in Hungary or Mexico as the original R&D, design, technology, processes etc came out of Bavaria. Similarly, I THINK (not sure) all 911s are made in Germany partly due to marketing reasons but maybe the Boxsters and Caymans aren't but buyers worry not about that as the Porsche badge bears assurance of Porsche quality and performance? I guess maybe I'm just going the long roundabout route to say perhaps MADE in Japan (assuming all relevant processes, raw materials, machinery etc is exported) is not so important as long as it is DESIGNED in Japan?
  5. Chris, For me only perhaps but what are the differences? Its easier to appreciate and even pay a premium to understand what the differences are? Are we talking a different kind of steel and forging process? Or is it just finishing which does not affect performance? I know this has been a sensitive subject and perhaps still is and I am not trying to stir anything, just wanting to understand and appreciate. I am fine if forged in Thailand, Taiwan and even China as long as the raw steel, forging, process, QC is strictly followed. For me its similar to say an Audi or BMW made in China, Hungary or Germany. I do not think the German made ones are better in any way and Audi and BMW I think, (options aside) will not allow an inferior engine, chassis, or gearbox for example to be used in the China or Hungarian made models than those made in Germany? I could be wrong. There are certain models like the A8 or R8 for Audi which are solely made in Ingolstadt I think but that is perhaps more due to the smaller production and marketing? Manufacturing is now global across the board and what we think of German, American, British, Korean and Japanese may indeed not really be. Is that wrong? I don't know or think so? The Jaguars and Land Rovers now are maybe of better build and quality and performance under the Indian Tata Group than say under Ford and god forbid, the British. Are Jaguar and Land Rover really British marques or less so? Does it really matter if the car is at least as good or maybe even better? Again, not trying to stir the unsavory. Just trying to understand more the salient details of the difference and what benefits Japanese made (as opposed to assembled) brings over otherwise. Thanks.
  6. On a related note, I read even with non-COR, you can only reap the additional distance with sweet spot hits. Is this true?
  7. Any interesting design attributes in this and what they are supposed to allow?
  8. You think the same as me Caddie. I think you may enjoy this more... :-)
  9. Thanks Ed. The S-Yard Bold really intrigues me but truth be told, with the DWDs working as well as they are, I'm really hesitant to mess with these scoring clubs be it the Bold or any other new wedge. The Bold is interesting though.
  10. Omg! You bought this?!
  11. Just an update to those interested. The DWD wedges continue to work really well especially the 54 and 60. Around the greens, have really been able to put it close on many occasions. With the 54 for a gimme par save o realistic birdie try. 60 is great out of bunkers and for flops when I do dare try it which is not often at all. Someone recently posted that some may be tired of reading the same posts that clubs are still working well but I find ongoing reviews good and of even more worth and relevance as it is post honeymoon, helps to sift through some of the bs and of course indicates that it could work for you as a longer term gamer... So as I started this post, for those interested.

I don't know what the longest heads are on their own or with the iron Byron but for me, of the known heads, jbeam 435 and romaro 460hx have been the longest for me. Ryoma D1 the most forgiving and reliable for lesser fairways misses but not the longest.

Hi Craig, What shafts have you tried in the 435? I had a fex 55, rd, ly01 hot black and none seem to give me the consistency of the tj46. I still so miss fairways I course but my misses are consistently right push whereas with the others, left misses as well as right were equally possible. At least with the tj46, I have minimiZed my misses. Perhaps try that? I play a 6.2 fully inserted (very deep hosel) and its plenty stiff enough.
  14. Try the Egg HD. Extremely long off the tee and I have never been been confident enough to to hit fairway off the deck until this came along. If the new EGG is coming out, price for the HD should be dropping very soon if not already.
  15. Nice clustering Chiro. Glad you finally got your new toys.

If your SIL doesn;t for whatever reason, let me know.
  17. 230 YARD carry is only about 207-210 METER carry. I don;t get 260 yard total distance as I do not roll 30 yards or so. Mine ain;t trackman numbers or any LM numbers. Mine are actual on course numbers. I don;t drive long by any measure BUT less than 210 carry is very possible with a 93 MPH SS. But to each his own. I have found in many instances, many play shafts too stiff for them for various reasons. But like I said.. to each his own. I play regular flex shafts in driver.
  18. Not sure if yo are referring to yards but if you are, just FYI that I am getting about the same carry with my 93mph avg swing speed per PRGR radar. I think you definitely should have gone with a SR or maybe even an R if they had an R. Given your carry, it is likely that your SS is less.

Hit the maiden ball at the range and it was ok. Important for me to hit the first shot well wih a new club. I'm funny this way. After about 15 range rocks, I'm not hitting well today and missing the sweet spot a tad I believe but at least I am missing consistently lol. Feel is not clicky to me. Not Epon soft as well which is a relief. It is straight and very decently accurate as you would hope and expect a PW to be and considering I ain't hitting my best, going to the pin with this new club is very muh welcomed! Lets see how this fairs over the next few weeks on the course.
  20. I've had about up to 2 week delays with some heads I have sent to the US of late. It leaves my shores almost always 2 working days after its dropped off at post but it can spend quite a while with US customs and post. Not sure what;s happening there but I think it's just increased security screening. Sorry for the wait you guys.

Big thumbs up for RomaRo and Geroge Spirits from me!

This just came in the mail today in a nice RomaRo box along with a nice RomaRo ferrule. Been looking for a specialised PW to replace the stock RomaRo H PW (not that there is anything wrong with the stock PW but just a force of habit I guess). Looks a lot nicer in the metal and not as big or clunky as I feared from Internet pics. Top line is a tad thick however. Took it to the fitters and put in a Shimada NW110 shaft and used a recycled Epon carbon fibre ferrule to match the rest of my wedges and irons. Plays to 35 3/8 finished length with an Iomic sticky grip, D1.5 SW and had the loft adjusted to 46 and the lie slightly more upright. I have yet to hit this but if the loft and lie adjustment is anything to go by, this should have a very soft feel. I do hope not Epon wedge soft though as I found those too soft. Lets hope this works out.

Thanks for the attempt at bounce info. I know you mentioned shafts only as trade, but any chance you interested in Miura wedges 50/54/60? I really am happy with my DWD wedges and have the Miura's and thinking of the Bold now hence my reluctance in a cash deal. I have always thought of SDJ wedges though. Hope you understand.
