  1. Hey, you get a hat - don't be greedy!!!
  2. Great find.
  3. Ah, eeehhh, ohhh, arggh....Nope In what I haven't been able to say very often, I just don't like it. :tsg_smiley_no: Think I'd take the XBlade, CB-1006, Epon Js, GField, Srixon 600 and then some before those.
  4. MY fcm tour flighted tour 6.0s were playing to 7.2. I have no idea what others play to. And that's my problem :tsg_smilie_whistle: PX doesn't seem to have the same issue.
  5. Awesome! The guy is new to the site, from overseas, and is trying to share your TSG enthusiasm generally and your Tourstage enthusiasm specifically. Thanks for welcoming him to TSG by saying "that is not really how things get done around here. Start your own WITB post and put your set up in there." I'm surprised you didn't finish by kicking dirt and saying, "Hmph. I'm not playing with you anymore." :tsg_smilie_whistle:
  6. Good to see someone else is getting the same results :tsg_smilie_cool: I agree that price only buys so much. I can attest from personal experience that Mamiya, Stulz, Mitsubishi, Grafalloy, Fuji, Graphite Design, MCC, UST and others have some elite engineering specs that DO contribute to performance. The question is, fit aside, how does one choose among these many, many shafts ranging in price from $75 to $1,200? I’m a big believer in Wishon. He has said that driver shafts made to the same spec (length, weight, flex, torque) tend to perform the same way regardless of what or how they are made. The manufacturing and materials contribute only to feel. I think that’s probably right, and the question is what’s that feel price threshold – for performance, it may well be $150. Feel is a different question. So getting back to the TP-7, if it felt 2x as good as the Altus or 4x as good as the Axiv, it may very well be worth the price to some. I personally just don’t think it does.
  7. Now, I am looking forward to seeing that set up!
  8. osh - If you like that fly-cut milled face and want a wedge that can be vouched for, try the Adams Puglielli. The Tour Protos can be had new for $100. I had to take the SW out of the bag because it was essentially impossible for me to hit anything over 3/4 shots with it and hold any greens. That thing is like a trick club.
  9. I had a chance to hit the Altus stiff today. It was in a Rapture 10.5 and just on the range, but I batted around 70 balls with it and mixed in and out with my current G5/Axis gamer. That shaft has MUCH more feel than the TP-7 in my opinion (or for my swing). It really loads nicely and likes to be stood on a little ! I was very impressed. Ozik may win me over yet. Now I strongly reaffirming my earlier post that the TP-7 is not worth the $1G. And, I'd really like to try the Altus against the Code 7 but I'm fresh out of friends who have the Code. :tsg_smilie_wah:
  10. I have to say, I think these and the driver look pretty sweet. :tsg_smiley_yes:
  11. Look a lot like last year's G-Field :tsg_smilie_whistle:
  12. No, I think he's telling you the purpose of a killed leading edge :tsg_smilie_whistle: Having said that, I've played a bunch in Europe and - using that as a point of comparison - the courses here in the States are kept much softer generally. Much softer. Out here in Cali, you could even say they are overwatered.
  13. Will somebody be giving the Epon a run for the money :tsg_smilie_whistle:

    Dammit those are beautiful.
  15. I have a TP-7 (HiBore) and an Axis (G5) and I’ll tell you that I’d rather have the Axis every day of the week and on a month of Sundays. Nothing to do with the money, it’s just a better shaft for me. Loads smoothly, appreciably longer than the Ozik, and nearly as accurate. It’s a no brainer for me. In fact, I know of at least two other people who went to the TP-7 and de-adopted it due to distance drop offs. I’m not dumping on the Ozik shafts. I, for example, believe Chris when he talks about great results from the Code 6. Shoot, I’ll probably try it before long. But the notion that the Ozik is clearly superior to True Temper’s absolute top of the line is just that: a notion.

They have a driver that's being tested right now (in Europe I think?).
  17. Agree. I think the quality of the construction is ultimately more important than whether or not it was forged or cast per se. It seems to me that a lot of the high-end designers go forged so this positive feedback loop accrues. (I would suggest that Endo could decide to make cast clubs and they would probably be pretty sweet.) Still, I don't know of many Tour pros that play non-forged clubs - or even clubs that are forged at the same forging house as the retail versions :tsg_smilie_whistle:
  18. I'd love to see a high-quality Japanese forging that resembles the original chrome Cleveland CG1 - thin topline, super narrow cambered sole, but a heavier, more bulbous muscle. In other words, a really compact head that demolishes turf and gets the ball in the air even with a 3/4 swing.
  19. I can't emphasize enough the need to play several times with any new aquisition before adding it/dumping it. There's nothing that replicates having to set up, swing, and then watch a club's performance when actually on the course. Plus the extra dozen strikes per club aren't going to influence the value of the set. As to matching set ups with your current gamers, I - for one - am looking forward to (and a little worried about :tsg_smiley_embarrassed:) the new clubfitting options. :tsg_smilie_money3:
  20. I agree. I have the TP-7 in a Cleveland HiBore and it plays to flex. It feels "softer" because it's supposed to. Like the AXIV, tightening up the whip seems to defeat the purpose. I've also hit the Altus and - performance aside - Ozik shafts seem to have a very distinct feel to them. I'm not saying it's bad or good, just very idiosyncratic to that shaft. I think you either love it or you don't. Has anybody else sensed this? In any case, the TP-7 is not the longest shaft I've played or even the best feeling overall. The one unique performance attribute IMO is the dispersion - loose swing, tight swing, good swing or average the thing goes the same direction all the time. Again, while it delivers a really "solid" (?) feel at impact, the TP-7 has been competing for a spot in the bag with a Grafalloy Tour Concept Axis which I'm not prepared to say is a better shaft but I seem to like almost as much. Considering I could buy 3 Axis shafts for the price of 1 TP-7, I'm at least inclined to say that there other shafts offering more bang for the buck that the TP. I’m looking forward to hearing the results of this test.

A lot of great things being said around here about the Epon Type J. They would be a nice upgrade from the MR23s. As an aside, I had a chance to play with the new Mizuno MP-67s yesterday afternoon. Those are just SOLID. If you wanted to go custom, maybe a MP 60, 32, and 67 combo Mizzy set :tsg_smiley_yes: If you're really ready to dial in the custom specs, there's always Ari, Jeff and the boys at Scratch.
  22. :tsg_smiley_yes: Yep - why I play X in my irons but S in my driver/woods (and wedges).

Really, really, really great shaft. Very smooth loading (like the Axiv) without that Axiv kick. I had it in a lofted fairway wood and couldn't have asked for more. The soft to flex question is impossible to answer in a blanket way as I find all shafts play a little different (i.e., a Blue Board Diamana IMO feels pretty stiff next to an equivalent flex NV).
