Time to begin to raise funds for the new Epon blades that will soon be coming out. I have two brand new G-Field 430cc GFT-1W drivers and I want to keep only one. Which one does not sell I will keep. The first one is an 8.5* with a MFS Woven HT 65g stiff shaft. The other one is a 10.5* with a Graphite Design YSQ 65g X-stiff shaft. Both are 45 inches in length and will sell each one for $300 plus shipping. On these, let's drop the price $50 to $250 for each driver. Or, $200 for just the heads. (Only included one picture since they are both identical except for lofts.) The 8.5* has SOLD. Thanks for looking, Doc
  2. Agree with the Waste of Talent and Anthony Kim...........but favorite long ball hitter, did you watch J.B. Holmes during the Ryder Cup? Amazing....... Doc
  3. Hard to beat the very soft Scratch wedges for spin.
  4. The Callaway ferrule that has a sleeve attached fit just fine when I reshafted the OnOff driver I have. Your local clubmaker probably has one of those ferrules. Doc

Voila! A little reserch and the mystery is sort of solved. True Temper tries to manufacture their DG shafts in three standard flexes and weights. They are the R300 (regular flex) at 125g, the S300 (stiff flex) at 127g, and the X100 (x stiff) at 124g. In the regular and stiff flexes, if the shafts are lighter due to manufacturing, they are labeled R200 and S200. If the shafts are heavier due to manufacturing, they are labeled R400 and S400. The x-stiff shafts seem to start out at the lightest shaft X100 (124g). If the shafts are a little heavier due to manufacturing, they are labeled X200. And, if they are even heavier yet, they are labeled X300. So, it does seem that the different designations are due to manufacture variances in weight. Doc

What an interesting question you raise here. After shafting and reshafting thousands of clubs it never occurred to me that maybe the S200, S300, and S400 shafts were not maufactured specifically for different weights. Now, I will have to find out. Will ask the rep when I see him next. Doc

The S200 and S400 are different because of weight, not flex. Both of them could be exactly the same CPM's, but their weights are 124g for the S200 and 130g for the S400. Doc
  8. Yep, cut the shafts 1/8 of an inch shorter for the grip butt thickness. So, if you want your five iron to be exactly 38 inches, cut the shaft (after installation of course) to 37 7/8 inches and it will be perfecto!!!! Doc

Usually, your high-end irons, like TS 202's, are taper tip. Have your club repair guy pull one and measure it in order to be sure. Doc

Blader-X and I agree on another thing (he does get good, worn-out use out of his clubs) and that is the type of ball we prefer. I have tried almost every ball and the Bridgestone B330-S is tops in my bag. It has great feel and wonderful spin.
  11. I put the new Graphite Design YSQ hybrid shaft, 85gr, stiff, in my 17* and 20* hybrids and they are fantastic. The YSQ is Graphite Design's new shaft with woven layers of graphite and they feel great. Check them out. Doc
  12. I did play one round with them before I redid them and they felt great with their weight and feel. However, not really much spin and I play on a course where the greens are softer and the balls spin a lot. So, regrooved the wedges and amazing, spin-spin-spin. Actually, if you hit your wedges a lot in practice and on the course, my recommendation is to get them regrooved at least once a year-maybe more. It was great dealing with Blader-X and I am so excited to have these two G-Field wedges in my bag. (Posted pictures mainly for Blader-X.) Doc

There you go. Trim off 1 inch and it should be closer to the redboard. Let us know how it works out after you get it done. Doc

Two used G-Field wedges I received from Blader-X. When I got them they had a lot of wear on them so I decided to redo them. First I bent the 58* to 56* because my wedge set-up is 52*, 56* and 60*. Next I buffed out the faces and the soles since they showed some heavy use by Blader-X. Then I regrooved both wedges and to top them off, repainted all of the grooves with white paint. Oh, and I also replace the NS Pro steel shafts with graphite shafts, easier on my arm. I think they look pretty good and I now have the entire set of G-Field clubs. The GFT driver and three wood, the 3-pw NC-1 irons, the two G-Field wedges, an orange G-Field Leap putter, and a shiny black and white G-Field bag to put all of the clubs in. Ha, not sure why I was so inclined to try to find this set-up, just for fun I guess. (Sorry pics are not better) Doc

Best way to match the two shafts is to go to a repair shop where they have a cpm machine that they can measure the cycles of each shaft. Put the redboard on the machine with the head attached and measure the cycles, probably will be in the 255 cpm range. Pull the AF head, trim the tip of the Machline 1/2 inch, put the head back on with tape (don't glue) and cycle it out on the machine and see if it gets close to the cycles of the redboard. If not, take the AF head off again, trim another 1/2", tape head back on and cycle again. Should get close after trimming an inch off. Since you have the AF at the length of 45.5 inches, I'm guessing that you will have to trim at least 1 1/2 inches off of the tip. Of course, this can get tricky, because once you trim off the tip, you will have to add some extension to the butt. Hey, your repairman if he is any good ought to be able to figure it out. Doc
  16. Heads are different weights(of course) as you go from the 3 iron to the pw, they get heavier. But, does the website say they make different weighted heads specifically for graphite shafts? That would mean that they would be making two different weighted sets for each model. If so, that is custom and probably expensive. Curious, Doc

The Geotech three wood is still in the bag and feels so solid. The Tourstage and G-Field are very nice, but just like the feel of the GT face more. Doc
  18. Ha, unfortunately does not work quite like that. Tapered iron shafts are stepped exactly for each club. A tapered 6 iron shaft is installed in a 6 iron only (unless you are soft-stepping) and a 5 iron tapered shaft is installed in a five iron. If the shafts are new then you just butt trim them to the desired length, the 6 iron tapered shaft can be 1/2 longer due to only trimming the butt end, not the tip. AS for pulled tapered shafts, unless they were trimmed 1/2 inch longer when they were new, you will have to extend the 37.5 inch 6 iron shaft to 38 inches. That way the step pattern will be correct. Best thing to do is just buy a new set of tapered iron shafts and trim them correctly. Doc
  19. Irons heads are probably the same weight no matter if you use steel or graphite. To make up for the lack of weight in graphite shafts, they are installed 1/2 inch longer than steel. A 1/2 inch accounts for 4 swing weights I believe. But, if you are installing graphite shafts, be sure to look for shafts at least 85 grams or more. Doc
  20. Never be sorry for asking questions. :) Most of your quality irons like Miura are taper tip with .355 size. Standard six iron is usually 37.5 inches so 1/2 " more would be 38 inches. And the length of the club is measured from the heel of the club flat on the floor to the top of the grip. Doc

PM sent to Blader-X for pics of GFTs. Doc
  22. I bet you can spin those wedges and the irons, almost too awesome looking to play. Add an Epon driver to that bag and you would really be set. Doc

Someone must have some GFT wedges just sitting around in their garage. Am looking for a 52*, 56*, and a 58/60* wedge. Doc
  24. Very nice bag even though there is a TM driver in there. Would love to get my hands on those wedges.

Mizuno black golf balls, sounds like a great idea. I got a sleeve of black Nike balls from a friend who said I should save them because they were collector's golf balls. That they would be worth more in the years to come. Not me, I just had to play with them and what a horrible experience. I rocketed those cool looking black balls down the center of the fairway and that was the last I saw of them. I had difficulty finding them on each hole I used them and soon they were nowhere to be found. Black balls on green grass-not a good idea. Doc
