The driver works very well for me. I guess the GFT driver had issues with performance but for me it feels great and is about as long as my TourStage 460 X-Drive. I did put a high quality shaft in it, a MFS woven HT, and that probably makes a big difference. Doc

Have never considered just a bag of one brand but after seeing the G-Field clubs, I went on a search to fill an entire set-up. I knew that would be practically impossible because the company went out of business and the GFT drivers and the G-Field bags were not available. But, lo and behold, after much patience, ebay came through with the driver and bag. So. check out my new bag full of G-Fields. 1. GFT 8.5* driver with an MFS woven stiff shaft. 2. GFT 15* three wood with a Graphite Design stiff shaft. 3. Forged NC-1, 3-pw, irons shafted with Grafalloy Graphite Prologic stiff shafts. 4. Gauge Design 4th anniversary 52* and 56* wedges. 5. Gauge Design GAA3 putter. 6. And of course, the great looking G-Field black and white staff bag to put the clubs in. The one club I am missing is a 60* Gauge Design wedge. Have not been able to find that yet. And would be even better if I could find some GFT wedges, I know they were made.

Geotechs are amazing considering the prices. I now have the GT 435 driver, GT three wood, and the GT wedges, which spin as much as my Scratch wedges. Now I just need to get the GT irons. Anyone have any thoughts on the irons? Doc
  4. Today I took my new G-Field GFT 8.5* driver out to the range to test it and compare it to my TS X-Drive 9.5*. And, there was hardly any difference in distance between the two. The GFT definitely had a harder, clicky, feeling face than the X-Drive, it kind of felt like the new Callaway Hyper X driver. No foam in this driver. The ball flight was lower than the X-Drive but like I said before, only a couple of yards difference with the X-Drive being the longest. Was landing the GFT around the 270 mark, using my rangefinder, and the X-Drive was in the 275 range. I really like the way the GFT looks at address and guess I will have to use it for a couple of rounds before making the final judgement. Doc
  5. Ha, doesn't sound too promising to use these GFT heads as gamers but will give them a try. I have shafted one of them with a MFS Woven HT stiff shaft and will hit it and compare it to my TourStage X-Drive. Will report back how it feels and how long it goes. It looks great with the woven shaft. Doc
  6. I have been searching for a year for a G-Field GFT driver to complete my G-Field bag and I found not just one, but two GFT drivers heads. Ha, I only meant to buy one but mistakenly bought both. One is a 10.5* and the other is an 8.5*. These are the drivers that are pictured on page 26 of the TSG driver picture gallery-very nice looking. So, I need to find out more about these two drivers. They look like 460's in size but are they? From those of you who have actually hit them, how do they feel? What might be a good shaft to put in them? Are they shorter or longer than your other drivers? Are they filled with foam? Any thoughts you might have on them would be appreciated? I am going to keep one and sell the other but not sure which one to keep. I hit a 9.5* TS X-Drive now with a Ad proto stiff shaft in it and it is long. Wonder if I should hit the 8.5* GFT to get the same distance? Thanks for your help. Doc
  7. Just go to your local golf store and have them (or do it yourself) install some undersize Lamkin or Golf Pride grips. Like $2.99 for each grip. How can you beat that? Doc

    No Geotech headcovers.............. Doc
  9. Hard to beat the PDG Scratch 60* wedge with 8* bounce. It is the softest wedge made and feels great with incredible control and spin. I have the Yururi Raw black 60*, the Tourstage Z60 wedge, and the Geotech 60* wedge, and the Scratch has replaced all of them in the bag. Doc
  10. G-Field is smaller than the Geotech. Read the post, about 15 posts down the page.."Amazing Geotech) It compares the G-Field, Geotech, and X-Drive fairway woods. Doc
  11. I have the GT three wood and it is fantastic. Now, I have been using the GT special grind 60* wedge and am totally impressed with it also. It spins a lot and where I really like it is for chipping around the green where the grass is cut short and tight. The special grind on it allows me to slip right under the ball and gently loft it towards the pin. I normally use a 56* degree or a 60* to chip but now am just using the 60* GT. So, Geotech has scored well with me with their three wood and wedge. The only GT product I am not so satisfied with is the GT driver. Two out of three is not bad. Now, I think it is time to try the GT blades.

Okay, which one is the Geotech, the X-Drive, and the G-Field? In comparing the heads, G-Field was the smallest, Geotech next, and the TS X-Drive is the largest head of the three. The depth of the faces has G-Field as the shallowest (1.24 in.), the Geotech next (1.34 in.), and again the X-Drive has the deepest (1.43in.) And how do they look at set-up, the Geotech has the best set-up at square or just a little open. If I did not know better I would have to say the G-Field and the X-Drive look at least 1* closed, but I assume they are supposed to be square so the Geotech must be at least 1* open. And, what is really nice about the Geotech is that the scoring lines do not go all the way across the face, kind of like a driver, and I bet this is why they have that solid clicky feel. I think the X-Drive and the G-Field feel a little muted when you hit then, not the Geotech. It has that driver feel. So, did you guess correctly? The Geotech is in the middle, the X-Drive is on the left, and the G-Field on the right. Doc

Hey Chris, isn't it about time for another fun contest like the WITB essays? I was thinking that maybe we should have a WIYPC contest (What's in Your Putter Collection.) Or, what Japanese club has had the greatest impact on your game? Or, which forums on TSG do you visit routinely and why? Or.................... I am sure the TSG members could come up with some very creative and fun ideas for a contest. Doc

I had to try the Geotech line of clubs to see just how good the clubs could be considering the prices. I purchased the driver and it was solid and okay. I purchased the GT special grind wedge, 56*, and it spins a lot and feels good. But the three wood, it has a feel that is incredible. I ordered the GT 15* three wood and shafted it with a Grafalloy NT prototype graphite 43" shaft, and it feels so solid, strong, and rockets the ball. The face has a solid click feel to it when striking the ball and the trajectory is straight and low. I have a 15* TS X-drive fw wood and a G-Field GFT 15* fw wood and this GT feels better than either of those two (and I am a G-Field fan.) You never know how a club will feel until you try it. Glad I took a chance and tried the GT brand. Has anyone else had a positive experience with Geotech components? Doc

Have an orange G-Field Leap Putter that I bought from a member on TSG and have not used it on the course even once. It is in like-new (9.5/10) condition with just a little tear at the top of the G-Field orange grip. The putter head has absolutely no marks on it. It is 34 inches in length and will let this putter go for $175 plus $10 shipping. Great looking putter but I am using, heaven forbid, a belly putter now. Or do you have a trade for it? Thanks for looking, Doc
  16. Forgive me if I am way off base, but OnOff 247's are $2100. That is a "killer price?" Doc
  17. Well, had a chance to hit both sets of irons, the NC-1's and the GD ETGA's, and compare their performances. I weighed them first because it seemed that the GD's were much heavier, but they weren't. The NC's came in at D1 and the GD's were D2. So not much difference there and they both were the same length. Also, neither iron had much offset, which I like. As for topline, the NC's were .203 and the GD's were .234, a little thicker. The sole widths were .813 for the NC's and the GD's were .744, a little thinner. So, how did they feel when I hit them. They both were definitely soft feeling with very little clickliness to them. The GD's were, it seemed, just a little softer, and for set-up and playability, I think the GD's were easier to hit. The GD ETGA's are going to be fun to play with, but the NC-1's are also incredible and will be alternating play with the GD's. Gauge Design irons are truly classic clubs and always will be, too bad the company went out of business. Doc
  18. Not sure about the differences between the NC-1's and the GD ETGA's, but will test them out tomorrow (Monday) and let you know how they both feel. Doc
  19. Well, I played the irons today and they were sensational. Very solid and a little longer than my NC-1's. I think they were longer because they seemed much heavier. I wonder if the rechroming added weight? Whatever, I now have a new set of irons in my bag. Doc
  20. Thanks for the input and have decided to play them. True the satin finish was nice but decided to try the shiny chrome finish this time and they are incredible looking. S300 shafts, Winn DSI red and black grips, and away I go. Oh, to answer the question as to where I had them rechromed. Quality Golf in Fountain Valley, CA, did the work and heard from some club repair friends at a major golf store here in San Diego, that they are the best. It took six weeks but was definitely worth the wait. Doc
  21. What a dilemma! Found an older set of GD ETGA irons and had them regrooved and rechromed. Now, they are so incredible looking I am not sure I want to play them. Ha, maybe I should put them on the wall as a collector's set Check out the pictures. (Sorry they are not better.) Doc
  22. Did someone say, "Bad habit of opening the face of their club in the bunker"? I hope not, because if you read the 2008 February edition of Golf Digest, the number one player in the world and maybe of all time writes that he opens the face of his wedge in the sand and makes sure that the bounce on the bottom of the club enters the sand first and not the leading edge. I am sure some pros are using 60 degree wedges and not opening the face up, but they practice a bit more and are just a little bit more skilled that most of us. Opening the face of the SW in the bunker has to still be the standard and the easiest way to get out of a bunker. In fact, I would have to say that most higher handicappers I play with have no idea about opening the face of the SW and therefore, are not able to get out of the sand with any success. What's good enough for Tiger is good enough for me. Doc
  23. I guess it is true what they say, different strokes for different folks... I tried the Super Stroke grip and thought it was terrible!!!! Not only does it have a thin plastic feel, but there is no feel when you strike the ball. And, two young up and coming superstars (both +2 handicaps)with whom I work with did not care for the Super Stroke either. Are there any other pros beside K.J. who use the SS grip? Doc
  24. Oh, come on now.... Someone must have a G-Field or Gauge Design bag sitting around in their garage or basement. I have a set of NC-1 GD irons and would like to find a bag to put them in. Help.................. Doc
  25. No problem, just get a .355 to .370 shim at your local repair shop. Or, if no shop, cut a three prong shim out of a coke can, takes awhile but can be done. Doc
