There's no doubt about it. The feel/power at impact is clearly different and you'll easily tell the difference. So all things being equal, brand name, head size, reasonably correct shaft specs, you can expect at least 6 yards, I'd guess closer to 8-10. So....the question might then be...will you play with it in a tourney round or for handicapping purposes. Some will call it cheating but I have thrown out there on this board many times that there are dozens of hi-cor drivers that are NOT on the USGA NC list. If you are just hitting it around for fun, it's moot. Finally, I am not using one after using 3 previously as my R580XD TP is straighter, more forgiving with no loss in distance. I had to do a lot more homework though to get my shaft/head combo just right. Just get a hi-cor driver off the rack and just bomb it. It's a rush.

Yes folks, as I have been saying for 5 years....Japan Dunlop is ichiban in Japan. The fascination with Miz, BS/Tourstage here and the lack of love for Japan Dunlop-Srixon/XXIO simply blows my mind. I can't explain it. Go check em out all. You won't be disappointed. Then if you're stupid like me you'll get more extreme and check out PRGR!? Their 900 forged irons are beautiful.

The 900 Forged are the best irons I've ever hit. If they 910's better, WOW! They make some fantastic stuff...expensive tho!

Ok...I'll ask the dumb question! What's the difference between 01-04 in terms of playability and what type of player each wedge is suited for? FWIW, I'd be interested in 56 or 60. Thanks Chris.

Victoria Golf-Shinjuku right next to the station by Takashimaya Times Sq. You will GO BANANAS in that store. I think it was 10 FLOORS of golf (very vertical store). There's also one on Yasukuni Dori in the well known sporting goods district. Look there but buy in the Ameyoko area. There are a handful of retailers there that are cheaper if you are buying new. If you're ok with buying top of the line used, you'll go bananas again at Golf Paradise, Golf Kids, etc.

Ck out www.tpmills.com. There are production protos for $160 SHIPPED including HC. Custom, from scratch, any way you want it, stamped anyway you want it....just like the pros $500. An absolute bargain for the same putter, quality, service as David Toms.

Absolutely agreed as I posted to start another thread. Lots of pros look his way!!! He's a unique opportunity to be treated like a pro and have pro-like quality equipment.

I have the current model TR 900's and I love them!!! They are the best irons I've hit. Forged CB is the performance/feel. They are great.

Gee, folks.....to answer the poster's original question...YES! If it didn't, there wouldn't have been all the testing, controversy and the USGA list of non-conforming drivers. Personally, yes and then some! Significant difference and I love it!

XXIO, I am not really an expert club ho. Sorry! But I know precisely which irons you are referring to. If in Yahoo Auctions Japan, try searching under "prgr speed" or "prgr 900" to see them. If it's the 900 speed iron that you are interested in, I can't help you at all. I've never hit them and can't describe them. You will do wonderfully with the Srixon I-302's. I purchased a used set with DG S-300's and they are great. PRGR 900 TR's with the M-43 just suit my swing speed, tempo, etc better. The sole width is narrower with the PRGR and flatter. I guess that is what you mean by sole grind. Good luck!

Lastly, it is the 900 TR's that the PRGR staffers are ALL using...Golf Classic mag from a couple of months ago. Jumbo uses the TR-X. That really hit home too when I was buying.

I am really sorry but I don't know re. the forging. The Speed irons are much cheaper than the 900 TR models. Just checked Yahoo Auctions Japan and I'd presume they could be had for 50000 yen, 60000 tops. One is starting at 40000 with 4 days left. Again, I have only hit one set of PRGR irons, the make and model that I am using now. But is simply significantly better than any irons I've ever hit. I'm not a club ho but I hit everything before I bought my new XXIO's. The PRGR 900's are much better. I would guess that the rifles are NOT factory installed. The stock would be M-43, M-46 steel/graphite. But I am not sure about that! Good luck!

I play 900 TR's. They are basically the forged model of the lot. 3-5 irons have a tungsten piece toward the toe, otherwise straight forged. The 900 TR-X have a 100g tungsten sole and are hollow altho they look very similar to the 900 TR's. I have seen the 900 Speed irons but they are not in the 2004 catalog. PRGR has an English page so you can read all about it. I am so happy with my irons, I can't even describe my satisfaction. Stock shafts too..M-43 steel.

Yes, there is a huge benefit! You'll realize it the second you hit a non-conforming driver solid. I have a non-conforming head with a Fuji Six and I'll never use a conforming driver again. I have a clear conscience cuz I check the USGA list every Monday and my driver is not on it, probably will never be on it. There are dozens of drivers that are hi-cor that are not on the list. So if you play in tourneys and otherwise give a rip, you might want to consider getting one that isn't on the list. Then you only have to deal with the technicality of the head not being on the list. If you are playing for fun with it, the point's moot but you sure as hell will notice the difference.

Can't help you there but just a comment.....if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I have 900 TR's and they are absolutely wonderful. For the first time, with any club or set, I wouldn't consider replacing something I am using now. Just happened to stumble on them after hitting a Japanese playing partner's. They are wonderful.

Cleveland 900J is the best and easiest to use LW I have ever used.

Aloha! I think they can only be had through a J connection of some kind. Unfortunately, PRGR as a whole is ridiculously expensive but I couldn't be happier. IF you have a J connection of any kind, I would recommend having that person do a search through a J used store looking for A or 9/10 condition. I have the 900's with M-43 steel shafts. I almost got DG but I had hit them with the M-43's and took the safe/known route.

Gee, when's this forum been pro PRGR? I've always seen the forum as pro Miz, TS vs anything else. That said, I just moved from J Dunlop (the real #1 in Japan, NOT Miz, Bridgestone) to PRGR after getting the 900 series forged irons. They're incredible and I couldn't be more surprised nor impressed.

PRGR 900's!!! Absolutely the only thing to get me out of Japan Dunlop that I've used for years. The best! Absolutely perfect irons.
