Mjr. D
So I've narrowed it down to the following drivers (in no particular order) Modart D 8.5 (possibly the new adjustable version) Jbeam 435 Black 9* JBeam Zy-11 - 8* JBeam 535 - 9* Egg 1 - 7.5* TRPX D 8.5* Honma Tour World 455S - 9.5* Mauruman Zeta - 9.5* I swing about 115-125mph (when playing a round). My miss is a hook. I am going to use either a Diamana X, Aldila Rogue 125 MSI or Mitsubishi Kuro Kage XT shaft (all of these are extremely low spin) with whatever head I choose. My main concern is hitting the ball straight. I just want to be able to swing the club and hit it straight. Lost balls and OB shots kill my scores. What do you guys think I should go for? Thanks a bunch guys.
Spoon
for you JBeam Zy-11 - 8* Aldila rouge msi 125. end of story. its a combo id game if i had your firepower. 2nd would be Jbeam black with the same shaft
Craig
Have you played any of these heads before and how did you find them, in particular the Egg
Mjr. D
I've had the original Crazy 435 by Jbeam back in the day. It was long. So so forgiving, low spin. Had the Egg 7 but the face was slightly closed so I sold it. That's about it. Again, looking for straight drives more than anything.
Mjr. D
Spoon have you tried the ZY-11 and Black? Findings?
PADMA
If this help to you: I am using JBEAM BKACK 435 with TRPX AIR 47 1/2 " X S-YARD 388 with same TRPX AIR 471/2" X MIZUNO 513 P with same TRPX AIR 471/2" X All are more than 300 yards, there are amazing. I will say that JBEAM #1 S-YARD #2( but almost 1 ) 5 yards less than the JBEAM , the best feeling MIZUNO #3 (very competitive with the others)
Mjr. D
That does help! Is the Black easy to hit straight? Have you ever hit the ZY-11? Have you ever hit Modart? Thanks man!
Craig
From that list from what I have hit I would say the 435 again. Wish I had hit the 535 as it is getting some great reviews, But I have not personally played it. My initial choice was the Egg but I do remember you having some issues with some Drivers in the past being closed face. The Egg would have been my first choice for you, but every Egg Driver I have ever seen sets up closed. Or at least it appears closed to my eye. I love the S yard 388, but am not sure how it would go for you, and it is not on your list Shaft wise the Diamana X would be a good fit for you, or I love the Quaddra shafts as they are quite anti left But it is hard with your swing speed. Good luck
supo
diamana X is prob a great shaft choice. i cant go past it. although u might want to try a graphite design z9003 7x. that might get u very intrested. id love to see you wit hthe jbema zy-11 8* i think of us all u wud get the most assistance frm this design. the diamanaXX or the GD z9003 7xx hmmmmmm yea.,
PADMA
Than black is very straight. I hit Ryoma V 8.5 TRPX D and egg 1. And I think JBEAM BLACK for me it's #
PADMA
But I can tell that the S-YARD has my personal longest driver
Spoon
Spoon have you tried the ZY-11 and Black? Findings? have not had the pleasure of trying this one out. from your list i have tried the 435/535 and t388 the 535 was my favourite amonst them for forgiveness , 435 longest
jimmieboi
We have similar swing speed. Mine is avg at 115. I would say the Diamana X is not a distance shaft. It's a controlled shaft. I have it shafted on t388, I went straght most of the time but only average at 280 yards. The TRPX s-013 shafted with X line went 30 yards further on average. The new JBeam 435 Black promises to be even further so I guess the JBeam 535 or ZY-11 or even the 435 Black might be your best bet.
Mjr. D
Interesting no Modart love yet. Ya I'm thinking hard about this one. I agree with you about the Diamana X. More of a control shaft than distance shaft but the Aldila (owned by Mitsubishi) Rogue 125MSI is supposed to be as good or better than any shaft out there so I'll probably put that in whatever I decide. So Chris swears by Modart but most people on here say Egg 1 (supo says the face is dead straight... (egg 7 sure wasn't), 435 black, ZY-11 or 535. It's going to be one of those. Tough decision... anyone else with feedback on these 5? Appreciate the help!
+TourSpecGolfer
I still think the 435 Black out with a 9.5 loft is your best bet, 0.5* open because the paint to some eyes makes it appear closed at it's rounded point. 535 is mid spin/mid launch by going up in loft with the 435 black out you will have low spin/mid launch. RLL went 11* on the black out and is killing it so I can't imagine what a 7D distance option will do for him.
akapur
Mr. D I have played the 435, 535, TPRX D, The Modart D from your list The TPRX D is the most forgiving but probably least suited to your needs The Modart D is very nice great looking club and good feel, not a distance monster or extremely forgiving The old 435 very very long and not too forgiving. Good strikes are rewarded bad are punished The 535 is great long and forgiving easy to launch Chris is right it is a mid spin head so if you need a low spin driver this isn't it Hope that helps
Ian-500
I'll be testing the 535 later this week. Will report back.
sundowner
I think the PRGR EGG1 is the only driver of the peer group which is "pure straight by design" - all other heads are good for players looking also for "workable trajectories". Just my 2 ct. The only reason not too buy the head, could be the head weight. I red, it is only around 192g. This head with 200g.. a fairway splitter!! RLL33
Yeah, as I said first time around, the t388 and the JBeam Blackout are the two straightest drivers I've ever hit. I have two t388's because I honestly thought it might be my driver for life. Low, straight, penetrating bullet shots with big roll out. But I tried the Blackout and have been stunned by how long AND straight it is. I really think the milling on the face helps to absolutely groove missile shots. And Chris is right, I've ordered another 7D-distance shaft to put in this baby so I'll have a direct comparison with the t388. For me, the Blackout launches higher, farther, straighter. Unless your swing speed changes all the dynamics (mine is just around 100 on the course), I can't imagine you being anything but happy with it. However you go, best of luck. And do report back on the results you get.
Vegaman
I found the TRPX D to be the straightest driver i have ever had, just hit it a bit too high (it was a 10) so i sold it. So if you want a head that is forgiving and hit a straight ball so you can "swing away" I would say the TRPX is it. I'm still thinking about getting another one in lower loft. Fore Left!
435 black with a good feeling shaft
+TourSpecGolfer
I love the S-013D by TRPX it is similar to the 535 imo in spin and launch. Low Spin / Mid Launch for this guy imo. ZY-11 with an 8-8.5* loft would be another way he can have low spin/mid launch while in a head that's more forgiving than the 435 Black. Mjr. D
Is the design/tech the same in the ZY-11 as the Black? Both have the face milling right? Egg 1 is out. Don't want to risk a closed face like the Egg 7. Modart is only 8.5 and mid spin and not that forgiving so it's out. TRPX - no clue who they are but I have more faith in JBeam as a driver company. ZY-11 or 435 Black for me. Straight low spin bombs is what I'm after. Hmm...
