Hey lads!

As some of you know, my first post was about finding my first JDM driver. Many of you guys suggested the S-yard T.388 and lucky as I am (and how awesome Chris at Tourspec is) I got one. Its shipped in a few days and I could not be happier.

Though I know that the Stock shaft will be on the soft side for me, Im a pretty aggresive swinger with a fast pace, it wont keep up.

So now I need your help (again) finding a shaft for the T.388 driver.

So this is what I need and want:

X-stiff

torque: between 2.5 and 3.5

tip size: 0.335

Launch/spin: mid/high and spin low/mid

Bend profile: tip stiff

Budget: 350USD (again, I know its not that much but I hope and think that there still is some great shaft in within this budget, I mean, see the S-yard T.388 I just bought)

Again, If I have missed anything, please inform me.

Also, I will gladly buy a used shaft if it got all the needs and wants above. And it has to be a one-timed-pull shaft. I would also like, when you quote me please include shipping to Sweden. I dont want a nasty surprise if I decide for a shaft.

What do you currently use?

I would suggest SX as the head weight is light @ around 193g.

Even S in a high grade shaft.

Probably pick one up second hand for experimenting.

As nob-san asked what is your current gamer, maybe try that first to get an idea of how the head reacts with the flex and rating you are normally comfortable with.

Thanks for the replies. At the moment I play a callaway legacy black with stock shaft in S, its a modified graphite design and its like a wet noodle.

My driver broke so this was the only club I had.

But in my gamer who broke I used a Fujikura Motore speeder V.C 7.1 Tour spec in X-Stiff.

Fujikura makes some great shafts within the budget but I would also love trying another brand since I have played Fujikura many times before.

So please, if you know a shaft with the same characteristics as the shaft mentioned above, I would be very pleased.

Mid: 48

Your Speeder VC7.1X:

The Kiyoshi BlK 75x is 5-7 cpm stiffer as VC7.1X.

Also a good recommendation, but is Fuji, too:

Tip: 28,3 (..for a much lighter head..)

Weight: 77

TQ: 2,7

Balance: 25,1

A couple things, depending on material your requirement in torque may change. The good stuff has higher torque for good reason it improves feel and the high grade carbon takes care of the twisting & timing of the shaft/face squaring up.

My suggestion is the TRPX Aura, all in all it's one of the best shafts I've used especially at its price point, I will be adding to the shop this week. It's up there with the best of them.

Thanks for your input sundowner, I have always liked the look of Oban shafts, and with ur numbers it seems like a good contender. I will look more in to that. I was just a click away from ordering the Rombax a while ago but I did'nt. It sure seems nice!

Thanks Chris! I will keep an eye out for the TRPX, but Im a bit concerned it will blow my budget looking at the TRPX thats up now for sale.

Though it would be nice trying a completly different shaft.

Think about with Kiyoshi BLK and headweight of only 194 g (T388) the cpm reading shoul increase about 10cpm (same lenght, same grip).

If the new combo feels to stiff, you can start with 1/2 inch longer (cpm decrease by 4-5 cpm) or your fitter bring the headweight to 198-202 g (what I would recommend..).

Mis**ts on lightweight heads could somewhat short.

T388 is a great players type head!!!

Also consider the Quadra F series proto, very good shafts at a good price also, they in the store, check them out.

4g: I would think the clubfitter will take tungsten powder.

6g .. depends on how deep the shafts will be installed in the hosel. Simple rule: No tungsten powder over the hosel line (will make playing the shaft differently).

I wont mixture with the weight of the head just yet. I want to try it first and see what it feels like.

I forgot to mention that the weight of the shaft should be around 65-75g

hot melt will change the sound and feel. i did this to an epon zero. i have two of these drivers and there's definitely a difference. my hotmelted zero has a "knock" sound. i don't think i want to do that to my t388 as I like the sound it has.

Anything placed in the head of a driver will stop the sound dissipating and reverberating in its usual manner.

Sound is a huge part of feel, I think messing with the 388 sound will make it a different beast.

Going 44.5 in the T.388 will make it play really light swingweight-wise, so it's probably better to build it to at least 45

Yes, it will be light SW-wise. Mine is built short at 44.25" with stinger 70s and I need lead tape to be able to feel the head, and it's still light, but something great about this short length and this head is super controllable and hot off the face forgiving head = fairway finder that is still formidable in distance (carry is a little less but runs for days - assuming it's not soft conditions).

I have s-yard 388 with TRPX AIR and it's amazing!!!!! Very long!!!

I would recommend 45 with light weight grip and even 1/2 flex softer than your norm if you go shorter, slightly higher torque you could also consider.

Yes, its a balance act. But I will start off with a 45" and try. Since I dont really have anything to compare with I will just have to mixture with it until Im satiesfied.

At the moment Im going for a fujikura speeder 661 X-flex, Im buying of a member here who offered me a great price.

Do you guys have any thoughts on the shaft? It sure seems nice on the reviews

That shaft spun too much for me. I got on better with the Kuro Kage Proto or the XT as it's now known as.

Mine has speeder 757x in it. Built to 44.5". Orig headweight was 193 or 194g. I had to add 8 or 10g tip weight. I forgot to write this all down. It's built to around d0-d1 now. I originally was going to extend it to 45" and then get d3, I just need to go to the store or order an extension. If you're putting in a 661 then I think BC the shaft is about 10g lighter you may need even more weight than I tried. ATM i can't remember the effect on swing weight from shaft weight difference... Just fyi. If you have a good builder he will figure it out.
