  1. Thanks for the response, T. Any opinion on how they play flex-wise compared the the royal deco or the diamanas?
  2. Is this shaft as stable as either of them? Anyone with real experience with this lightweight shaft?

Chris, you have reg or stiff? Can you compare trajectory and feel to the 950s and 1050s? Also sending you a pm.

Any ideas on which way I should go with flex based on my original post? They definitely sell them as aftermarket shafts.

Can't find much on these. How does flight compare to 950s? I use KBS Tours right now in regular flex, but would use stiff in KBS Tour 90s or the 950s. Would the recommendation be to go with reg or stiff on these 999s, considering they start at the lower weight and go up to similar weight of my current shafts?
  6. I don't want to thread jack, but wow, Chris. You must be having some kinda romance with those 2012 Onoff Type-S woods. It's the 3rd or 4th time you've praised them so. How do you feel about the more forgiving type-D fairways/hybrids? When will they hit the proshop, I only see the 2012 hybrids, but no D-long driver or Type-D/S fairways.
  7. The 7 felt smooth as is. The 6 must really kick. I've been thinking about my this LM experience. The numbers with my Epon were pretty much spot on. I'm just wondering why the Yammy numbers were considerably higher. I'm losing sleep over this. With my SS, if I can hit consistently send it 265, I'm golden, espeically with where I play out in the midwest where there is sooooo much wind.
  8. And I think also launch characteristics b/c the bend point moves up or down the shaft depending on where you trim it. The difference might not be significant though. I don't know, I'm not a chemist or physicist, I'm just an average golfist.
  9. Although T and others on this forum would vote against trimming the tip, but I'm pretty sure you can trim a good amount off the butt end and *not* alter the effective torque on a shaft.
  10. The green one looks like a medical utility cot that I would find folded up in the corner of a portable triage unit. Definitely not for everyone.
  11. Ya, my bubble soooo got bursted, haha. Well, I'm going to leave them as is and take them both out to an outdoor range that has a slightly elevated tee box and the field next week. That'll be the real test. I'll report back. So, you're saying the 6 produces significantly more spin than the 7?

I've been gaming the 'ilima in an AF-101 for a couple of seasons now. I was actually fit for this shaft by a Golf Digest top 50 fitter, who is also one of the few Epon dealers stateside (east coast). I'm now in the midwest. Today, during my lunch break, I stopped into my local Golfsmith and jumped onto their launch monitor with my Epon and a Yamaha V201 fitted with an DI7. Both shafts are stiff (instead of reg) flex b/c I prefer dispersion over a little more length. I really can go either way with my SS. My intention was to pull the DI7 and sell it or something b/c I thought it would be too much shaft for me: heavier weight and touted to be low spin. I don't swing that fast (95 SS), and with a smooth transition, I typically need some help with spin to keep the ball in the air. My on-course experience with my Epon-ilima combo yields about 235-250 yards, depending on conditions. I can typically fly it around 230. And these were the same yardages that I was seeing on the LM at Golfsmith today. I actually hit a couple 260+, which I take with a grain of salt. But surprisingly, and really excitedly, when I swung the Yamaha-DI7 combo, WHOA!! Yes, this was my first experience with either brand, but hey, I was knocked straight out of my socks. My avg numbers with the Yamaha was 265 yds, 2000 rpm, 12* launch, with 250ish carry distance. I hit a few 280+ with the Yamaha, which I also take with a grain of salt. Now, in all fairness, my buddy at Golfsmith did say that I was hitting range balls, which are harder than the balls that I normally game, so I should add about 300 more rpm to my real life figures. But I don't know. I can't discern whether these numbers are for real or not. The numbers that I got with the Epon are very similar to my real life numbers. But the Yammy just tore it up by 15, sometimes 20+ yards. Can I trust these numbers? How do you guys think I would fair with a DI6 in the Yammy. I'm so loyal to my 101, but I'm sorry to say, she might have just got kicked out the bag. Oh, and the feeling on the Yamaha is definitely no slouch. Perfect, just the way I like it. Pretty similar to the 101 actually, or maybe I'm just dull. It doesn't really matter, the numbers speak for themselves.
  13. Yup, I was going to say that as long as the torque isn't too high for you, as fw versions of driver shafts tend to be a little more active in the tip, you should be fine, Stew. Plus, what difference does it make to you? You're the tinkerer or all tinkerers!! You're like golf Santa.... Santa's shop? Stew's golf shop. Do you have little elves running around too, haha.
  14. Man, I'm gonna pump some iron and increase my SS 10 mph just do I can buy that shaft.
  15. I can find out as soon as the shafts are pulled for you.
  16. Since you won't be using the S400, you will know as soon as you pull it.
  17. I definitely wouldn't be happy with that either. I'm sure something can be done about it.
  18. That's pretty sweet.

    Oh ok.

I have a feeling this might get moved to USDM bst.
  21. Chris, I know it's you job and all, but you must have had your hands on thousands of clubs. It's amazing that you remember the characteristics of each of them so well. Or do you have a spreadsheet of notes, hah!
  22. I wasn't into JDM clubs when these clubs were released. Can anyone shed some light on these woods, particularly the fairway woods. High/low launch, forgiveness, feel, distance compared to more recent woods? Thanks.
  23. I believe it. But if he had JDM clubs, he would have had affairs with his golf clubs, like us, instead of with all those women.
  24. I think Miura used to forge Tiger's irons when he first broke out of his cage.
  25. Ya, I always thought that it was pretty peculiar that people with only a few mph ss more than me were supposedly driving 30 more yards. I'm like, is my smash factor or other stats so off that I'm so much in the lack?
