My feeling is that a Kamui would be awesome.......The Ryoma has been touted as king but I find the Kamui longer and more forgiving, however the Ryoma is a bit of a players club and when struck well, it does go for days, the ryoma has proven to be low spin and mid to low launch. Of all the drivers i have had, the Ryoma has been the lowest launch ! The Kamui Ray with a reg flex or senior flex royal decoration would be a bomber for the 85-90mph swinger. If budget is an issue, I would look into the Ping G20 with a reg flex di5
  2. hey hey.....i thought the Attas 2 was really smooth.....a billion times better ???? i seriously doubt it........maybe a wee bit better but the attas is a fine shaft ! ill give you maybe a million times better but not a billion.......my ozik tphd is on ther other hand a quadrillion times worse than the attas......therefore the diamana would be a zillion times better than that pos

Hmmmmmm a Epon Af 101 with a Di6 has lots of potential to be a bomber !
  4. There is no way I am going to hit a RBZ driver......I got way too much invested in JDM stuff......haha with my Ryomas and my Kamuis and Epons......I would be horrified if the RBZ flat out won !
  5. Is that number 1.34 his smash factor ????? I agree that with a 120mph swing speed that 310 is certainly good but on a hot day with a rock hard fairway and some wind at your back, that could result in a huge number. I hit 300 + yard drives on almost every round I play ( I need help with downwind and hard fairway to achieve that distance )but I am certainly not a 300 yard hitter !!! 275 is a well struck ball for me, everything else is due to elevation, weather, firm conditions !Ive seen guys on the forum brag about distance and Ive met quite a few that can back it up , but there are more than a few folks out there that exxagerate !

I would take those numbers with a grain of salt......haha and then you can sell me the yamaha......Those numbers of 230 yard carry sound pretty maxed out for a 95mph swing.....I dont think a shaft change is going to net 20 yards of carry, I have swung numerous shafts and have founf the ilima to give very very very nice Carry numbers.....It would be amazing to be able to carry 250 and roll out to 280 at a 95mph swing speed......The only way this makes sense is if you are actually swinging the Yamaha V201 faster becuase of the length or weight of shaft or head aerodynamics or both. As for Di6 and Di7, they are very diffeent creatures, the Di6 plays with a lot more kick than the Di7........My shaft rotation includes the Attas Version 1 in 7s and 8s and 6s in the Version 2 as well as the Ali Islei in 73s and 83s and the AD Di7 and Di6 and Di8. * or the question might be....is Yamaha > Epon ?
  7. Very informative video !!!! I hope i get the same results with the cb46
  8. Even better....i just found a 9.5 Ryoma with Crazy CB46 shaft !!!!
  9. haha...i used a black marker, but i will use some black metallic opi nail polish when i get a chance.....that and some buffing compound works great !
  10. Dammit I should not have tinkered.....nicked the paint on the crown removing the ferrule........oh well....time to buy a new one ! : )
  11. To make the shorter club feel heavier, you need a lighter grip ( i think )........basically if the shafts weight the same, you are losing about 9 SW points, its going to take a bit of weight to offset 9 SW points.....I would probably consider some hotmelt in the head or try the club at a lighter SW, you might end up liking it.....
  12. Just shafted up a 8.5 ryoma head with a 73 ali islei.....pretty low balls overall....im thinking of going to a heavier shaft myself but my only choices are a 83 ali islei or a Attas version 1 8s.......hmmm....should i tinker ????
  13. Wow , talk about service......from Indonesia to my doorsteps in California in a little over a day !!!!!

im about 2-3mph faster with my 5 than my 6......BUT my 4 and 5 iron are identical....
  15. I have a yonex 380 as well and i really do like that club, its carry is from avg to good but it rolls out very very well ! The club is pretty forgiving for a smaller headed club and the only reason i moved away from it is because winter came and i needed high soaring bombs which were all carry !!!! Im loving my Kamui so im not sure if the yonex will make it back into my bag ....... (Have u considered the 2012 Yamaha drivers ? I ve heard many good things about them ! )

I think irons aimed at low handicappers would be 4 and under and high handicappers would be 22 and over........the midcapper will be about a 15......so a low-midcapper iron would be 5-15 i guess......of course it depends on the player, there are always exceptions, there may be the guy who crushes drives 325 and hits 90% of fairways in regulation and can smoke his irons perfectly but seems to 5 putt every green and has a handicap of 35. There are really no absolutes i guess but just a generalization. I think epon covers the market quite well, they have blades and 302s for low handicappers and midcappers can enjoy these as well and then they have 502s and 701s to cover midcappers and high handicappers.....Of course this is a generalization as well because there are certainly many low low handicappers that play GI irons, and some play these on tour, and there are those high handicappers of 40+ who prefer miura baby blades and have them custom grind and xxflex shafts.....

I disagree with u there....The 5-14 handicapper is a nice niche. It seems to fit into those golfers who have been playing for awhile but are either too busy or not skilled enough to make the transition to scratch....Maybe the range can be narrowed from 5-11.....Most of my friends who have picked up this hobby later in life ( >28) will fall into this handicap pool ! Its a Low/Mid capper area, usually the ones most interested in the newest technology and attempt to squeeze every last inch out of their drives !
  18. ive seen the black with chrome rings from golfsmith. although they indicate for use on "unitized irons, they work quite well on taper tips, very snug....If u have a golfsmith locally, they should be easy to find. Another option is Mitchells golf supply, they used to sell collared ferrules but i havent ordered from them in awhile
  19. I found the Kamui Ray to be a bit longer than the Kamui 456 Silver......I really dont like the sound of the Kamui Ray but it hits some soaring bombs and is super forgiving......As for the Ryoma, i am tempted but i have the jbeam or crazy II 435 in my lineup......The Kamui Ray is an absolute beast but man it sounds horrible....
  20. @Dale.....I know Nippon used to make the Nippon Peening in subflexes like X1, X2, and S1 and S2.....I think KBS makes a firm flex and rifle makes a host of flexes which can be tweaked by tipping......Have you tried the mizuno shaft analyzer ??? It gives you insight into how you how your lag and which shaft might be most beneficial to your swing / load /lag pattern
  21. Hmmmm, that might be why i prefer a very stiff shaft....my swing has very little rhythm and a giant hitch with poor tempo but because i have been playing so long, I have figured out a way to get around on the course. I hit my irons a very avg length but am most comfortable with hardstepped rifle lite 7.0 . I wish i had a big shoulder turn and a smooth swing but haha after 10+ year of playing, it isnt happening ! The only thing I have going for me is that I am tall (for an asian) and pretty strong.
  22. I usually do my own club builds but on occasion I will have my builder do the work as well ! I like the part where I dont have to wait for clubs when I do them myself. It doesnt cost much to start working on your own clubs but you should have some experience or at least watch some you tube videos on "how to" ! The things you basically need are heat gun, chop saw or pipe cutter, a ruler, glue, ferrules, grip tape, grips, solvent, hook blade, scale and some tungsten powder or tip weights and then later you can get a shaft puller, vise, frequency analyzer, lie/loft machine, swing balance scale...etc I have found turning ferrules to be very easy with 220 grit sand paper or 400 grit and acetone...Most importantly set the ferrules flush with the hosel of the iron....JDM, especially epon are very tight tolerances. the ferrule should fit over the hosel with room to spare. Sand the ferrule with the sand paper until it is flush ( dont oversand ! ) The use acetone to smooth it out and get an exact fit, then use grip solvent to restore the luster to the ferrule ! The acetone as well as the solvent is applied in light even strokes, experiement with this before even attempting to turn down a ferrule. Always dry fit everything before glueing !
  23. Ah flex.....I have interesting observations with different lengths and swing weights as well but when it comes to flex, I am 100% confused ! I have over 40 sets of iron shafts and it should would be nice to figure out a length and a flex but dammit, my body is so damn weird ! Some days I can be at peace with my tour concepts in reg flex or KBS tour in reg, but some days i need my hardstepped rifle 7.0 or my 315 cpm Oziks. It doesnt seem to make a difference because I dont hit the ball very far..... Im a monster with the driver ( 280 carry ) and only use stiff, but the irons are my nemesis ! My bag is a throughly confusing mix ! The SW and GW are stiff flex, the 3,5,7,9 are extra stiff and the 4,6,8,PW is reg flex....I really cant feel the stiffness in the shaft although the extra stiff is definitely more boardy ! I hit the regular flex shafts well because i can take a smooth pass and "flick" at the ball...However the xflex demands a fuller shoulder turn and also demands that i keep my hands back and compress the ball.....It would seem that stiff flex would be the best of both worlds but call it "mental" because i cannot hit a stiff to save my life, Im better off kicking the ball down the fairway with a stiff iron flex ! Ive been playing this game for over 10 years and i play quite often but everytime i stand over the ball I am frightened to death....This game is amazingly tough....Ive played college sports so I do know pressure but why does every shot feel like foul shots to tie the game with no time left ???? I find myself doing the sergio grip, regrip,grip,regrip....back off regrip, grip, back off...haha u get my point !
