Mate Just for interests sake what was Tarios recommendation as I think he is pretty much a genius with this stuff
  2. Hi guys Have too much spare time on my hands at the moment and thought I would find out just what is the best fairway wood for me. My old trusty is the old Egg Spoon 13^ with Quaddra FW shaft stiff. Also have several other old Eggs with various shafts and a new Egg 15^ with Crazy FW 80 stiff. Tested against the new Ryoma FW 13^ with Crazy FW 80 and a multitude of other Fairway woods including Yamaha 13^, Akiras 13^, RC 13^ and Epon. Also tested were some other FW's but no real name brands. The old Egg has always been my old favorite as it just goes and goes, straight most of the time. However being afflicted with some kind of disease (I call it Supo Fever) the quest is always to find something longer and straighter. Hence my collection of many FW's. So for my own benefit I set out on a quest to find the holy grail of fairway woods. Over the last 2 weeks or so I have been pitting these clubs against one another and have hit many many balls all actually on the course on different days. Have been hitting the Ryoma lately as it is still new and has that novelty factor. By far the longest is the old Egg Spoon. Simple. None of the others come close. For me with this shaft it gives low to mid penetrating flight and just rolls forever. Not as easy to hit as the new Egg or the Ryoma though but at least 5 metres longer The new Egg comes in at number 2. Much easier to hit than the old Egg, much higher launching than the old Egg and probably a fraction straighter than the old Egg. Mis**ts are punished much less than the old Egg The Ryoma come in at number 3 but only fractionally behind the new Egg (probably only 2 or 3 metres shorter) is the easiest to hit of the top 3, is the highest launching and straightest of the 3. It is also the best feeling FW of the 3 by a long way as well as being the most expensive by far Interesting in that it gets high quick and seems to flatten out before appearing to soar again. Many times I hit one with it and thought that's it, that's the one, nothing will be longer than that, only to find that it wasn't. Mis**ts, like the Ryoma driver, hardly seem to be punished at all. Before this experiment I had thought that the old Egg would be longest, then my Yamaha with shingospec shaft, Akiras then maybe the Ryoma and new egg. So the results have surprised me particularly how the new egg performed, and also the almost no difference between the non egg type woods. In summary it would be my opinion that if you are happy with the FW you have and don't like the Egg Spoons, keep it. The new Ryoma is nice, easy to hit but is certainly in my opinion no game changer particularly given it's price tag. If you are looking for a new FW consider the Ryoma but I would suggest buy whatever suits your eye as I do not believe any particular brand stands out. My apologies for the punctuation etc of the post but my computer is fried and I am doing this on my I pad and it is not the best to post with.
  3. Supo With the TM people there I am dumbfounded you did not put the new Diamana shaft in the Rocketballz. Colour scheme would be perfect Seriously can't wait to see the results in a match more importantly if it can win some of the Barons coin
  4. as always your reviews make great reading. The details and information is again top notch. I love reading posts of your shoot outs. It makes my day Can't wait to hear more Keep it up
  5. Mate seriously look at the VG3 as they are pretty smick From what I understood ( and there was a significant language barrier) they were not available to hit but maybe that was only me.
  6. I thought that the VG3 irons were far and away the standout irons of the show. Probably the only set of new irons I will buy this year. Anyone considering new irons should look at these. Other standouts were the Fujikura girl which explains why I have 1457 free Fujikura hat clips and ball markers and don't own a cap? Was amazed at the numbers Supo got with the new Diamana shaft and think it will be the shaft for him ithe future. Can see why many people rave about the RC wedges as they look great as did the Yonex wedges. Yururi have a new grip which also is one I am going to try. was lucky enough to snare one as a sample and am going to put give it a crack in the near future. Was great to have a good long chat with the boss at Yururi and learnt heaps from him. NS pro are releasing a new driver shaft along the same flex characteristics as the Modus 3 which interests me as I think this shaft is a very good one Other than that was priveleged to pass all security clearances and gain access to Supos bat cave. An experience to behold.
  7. Robb40 I think the Royal Dec will go great in this head. I have a 435II head with a LY 01 Hot Black and it is nice. In my opinion the 435II head looks great and feels great as well and my actual next step is to put a Royal Dec shaft in it to try. I dont thonk this head is as long as the 435 though but looks and feels so much nicer. Shame you sold the 460 head as there is a good chance you may want to go back to it.
  8. I will be there Wonder why you would stand out Supo

For mine Old Egg Spoon first daylight second
  10. Have not really had time to really experiment with things as yet. Had a period of preparation time where I hit the same clubs for a couple of weeks as I Spent last weekend playing plenty of golf including a round at Royal Melbourne. (played 12 holes that the Presidents Cup was on) The weekend was great and I played the best golf of my life including an 81 at RM. Went back to my old trusty the Ryoma 9.5 V Spec with Crazy LY 02 Noir and absolutely smashed it. Went silly hitting fairway after fairway( hit 46 out of 56) and really found the combo performed. As I grew in confidence and really started giving it a crack it went even better. It felt even livelier It would be true to say that i would be silly to experiment with things as common sense says just keep the Ryoma as is. However no one has ever said that I am very bright so the experiment will begin Have made a few combos and since the weekend have managed to almost hit all combos but not enough to report on just yet. Going away next week for 3 weeks so my report may be some time away. Only comment I would make is the Royal Decoration shaft has a bit of grunt and I think it suits an extremely wide range of swing speeds and styles more so than any other shaft i have tried. Have it in a Crazy 460 and Ryoma V-Spec at the moment and have seen it used by quite a few other players as well in my groups. All have loved it. Hope all you guys have a good xmas and will report again in the new year

Frank where you been How the Crazy wedges going
  12. Craig replied to Ara selai's post in a topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
I have a set and rate them very highly. Have 52/56 and 60 shafted with KBS Hi rev wedge shafts. Performance wise and feel I think they are as good as any wedges I have got. Great in all conditions Obviously the more technical side of things is not as good as other brands but I would certainly consider getting them again
  13. Spoon Interesting you are heading down the path of the JBeam/Crazy head and Crazy shafts as that is also where I am heading. Can only guess where the common influence is coming from. I have a Crazy 435 with Crazy New CB 80 7.4 (This shaft now known as the 80 LS II Noir) and can only speak highly of both shaft and head. I never thought the Ryoma would sit idle until I hit this. It is significantly longer than the Ryoma but in my hands nowhere near as straight but am slowly improving with it. The shaft feels incredible and the ball flight is perfect with good carry but massive roll. I must say that my mate bought this combo to muck around with but he has not got his hands on it yet. The Ryoma is gathering cobwebs and may even be used to prop up tomato vines. So impressed with it have ordered 4 different Crazy shafts to muck around with including another 80 LS II Noir. a Royal Decoration, Longest Yard 01 Hot, and a CB 46. Am intending to play around with Crazy heads 435, 435II and 460 and also my Ryoma. Shafts arrived today and am intending to changeover next week and see what happens. I doubt any combo will beat the 435 I sort of have now but am going to give it a go. Like you I am also fairly bewildered by the array and number of Crazy shafts around but I can honestly say that I have never hit a Crazy shaft and thought it was ordinary. Let me know if you want me to report on my experiments.

Got mine this week and used it evry day on the course. Simple to use and boy it shows you that swinging harder aint better Also dhows that the difference between smooth and going as hard as you can isnt really a massive difference in club head speed. It has already improved my Driving by a lot Next project with it is to try the partial swing speed mode

Hi, A mate of mine has the exact same head with a Roddio 7WA Stiff in it and swears by it. He swings a bit fastewr than you and says it takes the left side out of play alot especially when he chases it. They just released the newer series of Pentacross so maybe talk to Tario about what suits.

ok guys here goes Hit them again yesterday so will have a crack at a more in depth analysis. These shafts are lower launching than the Project X in the same heads with a much more penetrating trajectory. One has feel of the head throughout the swing (same as the Project X) and distance is about the same maybe marginally longer. They feel smooth throughout the swing and lively at impact. Dont feel I have to work hard to square the short irons. However did push the long irons right so as per my initial thoughts they may be a tad stiff for me as did not do this with the PX's Great stopping power on the greens but this may be more related to the greens than the shafts. Up here at present we have barren fairways and super hard greens due to the fact we have had no rain for about 4 months and my local courses water supply has been out of action. However since last week thay have restored the water supply and the greens have been getting plenty of water. Saw pitch marks for the first time in months. Compared to other shafts I will do my best. In the past DG's(both S200 and 300) in any head initial launch is low to medium with significant ballooning. These I find launch higher but do not balloon and better all round soft feel particularly at impact. The feel at impact with these shafts is what really stands out to me. That and the fact that like the Super Peening Blue they go straight and stop. Compared to KBS tours much lower flight and better feel at contact. I find I lose distance with the KBS Tours but have good stopping power. I hit thwe Crazys definately longer. Have not hit any Graphites except the Crazy wedge shafts and these are nowhere near as silky smooth as them. Similar performance to the C Tapers in Miura SB 01 but feel much better. C Tapers in these heads perform well but feel harsh. Going to put them in something else. which will give me a better idea of how the C Tapers feel. Might get another set of these shafts for those Miura heads but drop down a flex. Overall I do not get along with NS Pro shafts as although I think they have excellent feel, they Balloon for me and have poor dispersion. Overall they feel the most similar to the Project X but with a lower more penetrating ball flight and tighter dispersion. Overall a great first up steel shaft from Crazy where they have achieved what they set out to do.

Sorry Guys Have not hit them enough to really compare Also have not tried many of the shafts that are mentioned. Lastly I dont have the ability to really compare different shafts etc as i am only an average player at best. Hopefully someone with higher levels of skill can report on them in the future. if only my skill levels matched my enthusiasm. Will try my best to compare and maybe help someone out with their choice of shafts

Hi Guys Got my Crazy Steels Target Tour 120 Stiff in Dark Chrome. Firstly look the real deal and as mentioned the Dark Chrome is certainly not real dark. Just a dash I would say. Put them in Yonex blades (which are by far my favourite set of blades) and had my first hit today after work. First day in ages that I got caught back at work as had to look after a problem that my Dad had. So only had 5 holes to hit them. Unlike the Crazy wedges where my first impressions were mixed these shafts are different. First thoughts are that they are the real deal. Feel nice with very very penetrating flight. First words to describe them is smooth and consistant Gut feeling is that the hard hitters are going to love them. Unfortunately they dont have magical properties as I tried to hit a 3 iron 210 metres uphill and into a stiff breeze and failed. Ah well at least I tried. Will furnish a further report when I have hit them some more.

Shafts here (Dark chrome) look pretty smick going in a set of Yonex blades as I type

Got my twins today and yes took them out for a spin this arvo Both with Crazy wedge shafts and the face milling extra Like Frank first impressions was they looked pretty ordinary like the kids had them in the sandpit for a while. They go good though. Bestway to describe them is they feel silky smooth. shafts feel great made me think of getting some high end graphite for my Miurisms.. Performance wise they were good cant say outstanding but conditions were pretty tough with at least a 2 club breeze playing havoc Are they worth the $1000 plus. will keep you posted on that And frank those Epons look the real deal mate
  23. Craig replied to FrankThong's post in a topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
I'm waiting for mine. got almost identical to you Surprising they were not perfect given the price And Frank just play them tomorrow Cos I Wanna hear how they go
  24. Hi Guys Further to this post i have been doing some numbers on the Ryoma V Epon driver where I have been measuring distance and fairways hit. I play most days after work and get usually 7-12 holes in and have been using only these 2 drivers and measuring them with my Sureshot GPS. play the same course all the time and pick the driver the night before so there has been no preference as to conditions, wind etc. I also only take the 1 driver out each time. The reason being is i wanted to see what was better. The Ryoma averages for me 8.5 metres further and hits almost 7% more fairways. These were total metres driven divided by number of drives not by averages etc. I was surprised as i thought the distances would be much closer but I thought the Ryoma would hit far more fairways. However the numbers dont lie. My personal opinion is that the epon feels better and that the Ryoma is not as good for me if it is quite windy. I think it struggles in the wind. This is only guesswork and if I get bored I may test them out in windy times and compare. But I dont think I will ever get that bored. Hope some of you find this interesting.
