  1. Damascus is a crucible steel, some people now make Damascus by folding and forge welding, but normally its made from steels of varying carbon content liquefied in a crucible, very different from the steel in a Nihonto, whereas the Japanese sword is forged and folded to remove the impurities and normalize the Carbon content of the base Tamahagane(Japanese steel smelted from iron sand in a Tatara at temperatures low enough not to fully liquefy the metal) giving it the patterned look of many different steel layers(or visually the oxide boundaries between steel layers), Damascus steels already have that pointed pattern before they are forged and worked, the forging process(not folding) would break up the more brittle higher carbon pieces and distribute them more evenly through the metal, further refining it, both the method of crafting the Japanese sword and the use of Damascus steel was done for similar reasons though, the use of both high carbon steel for strength and hardness and low carbon steel for ductility and durability.... I honestly don't know what the value of a Damascus steel would be when used in the face of a putter, but the fact is, a "Damascus steel" putter face could mean any combination of steels with varying carbon contents that produce that apparent pattern in the steel.
  2. I saw a bunch of Shingo on US TV which was great, but not much of Fujita or Taniguchi..... Yeah, those irons look SMOKIN hot, want them, want them now, lol. I think that is the z9 he's gaming there, good shaft for that course.
  3. These are AWESOME irons, anyone looking for a CB should hop on those, a really, REALLY great performer.
  4. I just bought a set 3-PW from yourpressed, I'm pretty sure he listed em in Stiff... The listing was up for a little bit before I bought them from him, surprised I got them, a few people said they PM'ed him or wanted them before I picked them up, NS protos are pretty rare, you really gotta just grab them if they're available.
  5. I have ALWAYS wondered about this set.... Just never have really gotten much feedback on it.
  6. is it just me or do they look a lot like the previous model, the MP69?
  7. Little heavier and this gorgeous stick would be making a trip to NY....
  8. I'm going to agree with Warren on this.... You KNOW that this shaft works for you, you could grab that Quadra and then hate it, then try something else and hate that. Finding the right wood shaft(s) isn't always easy, don't let this one freak accident sour you on something you would otherwise love, everyone gets unlucky now and again, just gotta keep moving forward mate.
  9. The original J Beam 435 is an amazing driver, I don't know if there is another driver that such a wide variety of people hit so well and enjoy so much and have been doing so for quite a long time(excluding maybe the original Ryoma)..... I cant see how you could go wrong buying that head in the left handed version. Shaft wise, best thing to do is work through a fitting with Tario and get all of the particulars figured out, picking the right shaft is going to be the most important thing for you, worth the effort to get it right.
  10. I've always liked that particular sole grind, goes really well through thick rough... Havent hit the Geotech, but I have hit other wedges with a similar grind and they work really well, can imagine this wedge would as well.... It's simple, forged, has a classic shape and it's less expensive then most USDM wedges you can buy off a rack, cant see how this wouldn't be a solid wedge option.
  11. The proto in 65X should definitely be stiff enough.... I Just pulled a Proto 75SX out of a head to put in a Diamana X, that leaves me with 2 of the 75SX Protos that aren't in anything at the moment, might sell one of them, if the 65X doesn't work out for you, PM me if you the 75SX.
  12. The 75 series in all of the Quadra's I've hit seems to play considerably stiffer for me than the 65, I've never hit the WBQ, don't really know the profile of it, but if the 75 SX in that is too soft I'm assuming that the 65SX in the proto will play as stiff as the 75SX in the WBQ with a bit less weight and a different ballflight, kick point, etc, if playing a lighter shaft weight isn't an issue for you then maybe play the Proto in 65SX a quarter inch shorter... If the 75 SX in the WBQ is considerably to soft though, I'd say that the Proto in 65SX is still going to be too soft and go for the 75SX.
  13. You keep mentioning the fact that it's a 725.00 shaft, but that in reality probly has something to do with the reason the Crazy's can be fragile, the more expensive High Mod carbon is more glassy which also makes it more fragile.... I've broken lots of shafts, I've actually never snapped or cracked a Crazy(knock on wood), but I did buy my brother a CB80 LS Noir in a softer flex(6.9) a while back, and it broke on the 2nd or 3rd swing... The softer flexes are more fragile than the stiffer and people with steeper swings in there woods definitely have more of a chance of breakage, with a more fragile shaft, that chance of breakage is multiplied.
  14. Haven't played the WBQ, I've played everything else on the list above and the one thing that you don't have up there is the gold medalist for me, the Proto 75SX, I'm not sure about stiffest tip, but definitely the stoutest overall profile, its always felt sturdier to me than any of the QFE non protos including the 75X.
  15. Do you mean a soft feel? A solid feel? Feel is super subjective, its one topic where everyone else's opinions could be 100% useless to you because you enjoy something different..... Shape is huge too, what do you like to look down at when you putt? A classic blade? More of an Answer style? A mallet? Everything mentioned above are wonderful putters and just about everyone who hits them think they feel heavenly. For me, I love the Miura KM350, and the Yamada Razor in Burning Copper, from drivers to hybrids to irons to wedges, every time I see something that looks cool I have to buy it, but those two putters just take almost all of the temptation away from grabbing a bunch of other sweet looking flatsticks.... The Miura feels a bit light for me sometimes though, cant help but wonder what kinds of magic Gold's could do with it if I sent it in...
  16. They'll never make another set of these, it'll always be the same sets changing hands.... Anyone who wants these... buy them... and hang onto them, especially in Stiff flex, which is ultra hard to find.
  17. Just curious, they look great and I like that they come in 19* rather than 18*.... any info would be great.
  18. Super late to weigh in on this topic, but I figured I would add my 2 cents, cutting the shaft shorter will stiffen it's profile but lighten the weight, if your comfortable with a 60 gram shaft an inch and a half longer in a certain flex then a 70 gram shaft playing that much shorter is going to play stiffer, might be a good idea to come down a flex if you go that route...

this is the perfect set up for these.... Monaco in these heads is bliss.
  20. Ive got 2 sets of Crazy wedges, the protos from the original poster's pic and the original production set of the Toyos, I've seen a few sets of every Crazy wedge save one, I've only seen one set ever of the Crazy protos Chris was gaming a few years back, never saw another set, never heard of anyone else gaming them....
  21. I test drove the LFA when it first came out and have no idea why I didn't pull the trigger, it was actually super comfy inside for me and I loved the interior on the whole, it was fast, drove nicely and sounded sexy... I've actually never owned a lexus though, again, dunno why. I've owned a few mercs though, the only one I currently have is the c63 amg which is the most fun thing to drive there is, it just feels like a toy, its the one car I consistently want to go fast in, a friend of mine had an ISF a few years back and it sounded REALLY cool, as I've just returned from a 2 year sojourn maybe Ill get rid of the c63 and get an ISF, any chance for pics Chris? I've had a lot of great exotics and every one Ive bought I think to myself "man this is gonna be a daily driver" but since I've got back to the states I've driven a Panamera and the c63 almost exclusively..... similar situation before as well... time for something new
  22. I have one of these, if your still looking PM me.

don't sell the 11's mate... they're the best production wedge I've hit, granted I haven't hit anything new in 2 yrs, but the only things that I've hit that are as good as these are the TS maru's and custom Gold's, not better, just different.... just leave em in OZ for when it starts blowing, great on the links.
