Ryoma Putters Now Available Here!
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
A couple of these were sent to golds for some magic... -
Ryoma ST Driver has been great for me, I did notice less spin and a less squirly dispersion than the normal version. It's for sure longer than the normal version as on my normal holes I'm in new places. For me the Maxima was longer than the D1 and this ST is the longest. I'm also using the stock 65g shaft in stiff which for some odd reason is working better than many of the aftermarket shafts that I've tried in the Maxima.

Honma's newest iron the Beres IS-03 which will most likley be Honma's #1 selling iron with the slower swinging mid capper category. While here at TSG we are more aligned with the athlete player the majority of our customers could actually fit this segment as well. The IS-03 is a 2 piece structure made of a soft carbon forged body and high rebound miraging face, It also has a very deep cavity making this iron super easy to hit even a high capper could handle it. While It is uber forgiving I don't consider it a full game improvement iron, Honma has kept the topline somewhat thin while keeping offset relatively less. 2-Stars, 3-Stars, 4 & 5. What does it all mean? For the long time Honma fan it's status first but with the new generation of Honma customers not only do extra stars act as a status symbol but also buys them into certain customizations and Honma has a wide array of options to choose from starting at 3 stars and up. Everything from the finish, to accent colors, to shaft colors, and many other options. More aesthetic than anything else on the actual head but big upgrades as far as the carbon technology used in the graphite shaft. As you can see above and as I mentioned earlier the top line is not that large and the offset isn't as goosey as one could expect. The long irons are actually very easy to hit and just overall the distance the Beres IS-03 has is shocking and besides the hot rebounding face the loft is totally jacked strong. You have a 5 iron that is 22.5* and a PW that is 41.5*! Many will cry foul but if you look at the loft gaps from 4 -PW + AW + SW all distances are covered. It's got a very low center of gravity with a very high MOI for an iron and they did this my allocating a lot of weight tot the toe and heel, the backside of the face has a lot more thickness near the very bottom even more than the previous model. The IS-03 also features a hot spot on the face that has been expanded greatly and a 10% increase in the surface area. There are 3 different shaft options available all in the ARMRQ8 series, the 45/49/54 all very light yet strong kicking and accurate due to the weave pattern and high modulus carbon used to build the ARMRQ series

Is this Kobayashi-san's Final Design?
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
-
Yes while the conforming versions all differ a bit in specs the special tuning is all the same so the only difference is in finish. The heads are slightly closed on the ST version.
-
Have you seen the price of these in the proshop? http://www.tourspecgolf.com/prgr-id-nabla-black-forged-iron-5-pw
-
Yes I've got those shot just gotta get around to hitting them.

Is it good to reuse those high module shafts?
TourSpecGolfer replied to Calvin's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
You will want to use golf specific from a company like Mitchell. -
PRGR is what I would consider one of the big brands in Japan and for years they have been making some of the most underrated products. People are missing out on some incredible designs and today I'm showing off the iD Nabla Black iron... Nabla ok there's a funky word for a golf club that leaves most native english speaking people scratching their heads but besides it's name there is a load of tech and quality in this iron. Let me break it down, the iD Nabla is made at Endo of S20C and features some cutting edge technology most notable is Alpha gel in the mid irons. What is this Alpha Gel? well so far only a couple of brands have used it and that's Epon & PRGR, it's a transparent gel that provides cushioning and vibration dampening performance, it's also extremely durable in harsh temperatures. As you can see the PRGR iD Nabla is pretty compact, its geared toward the mid to low cap player and features a shorter than usual heel to toe length, It's got a really nice thickness to it this picture is of the #7 I believe and what's nice is the lack of offset these irons have. I have had the chance to review it and I can say without a doubt it's a performer as most PRGR usually are. The feel is unique let's put some context around this. It's a 2 piece head, very expensive technology there S20C body but the face is a material called nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel SAE8655M and not only does it feel good but it has some pretty crazy rebound attributes as well. In the #3-5 irons there is a cavity filled with vibration absorbing foam while in the #6-8 irons in the cavity is Alpha Gel then into the short irons #9-PW it's sold 1 piece good ol Japan S20C. It's Leading edge and trailing edge grind relief looks sexy on this iron and it plays even better but how does it feel? It feels a little numb in a good way, usually with 2 piece heads its very "tink" like in sound so the whole reasoning behind adding Alpha Gel is so you can have the hot distance and uber forgiveness of a 2 piece head without that sound. The gel absorbs the vibration that's on it's way up the shaft through the grip and into your hands ears, then brain. The iD Nabla Black's Distance is definitely above average, the lofts are pretty jacked though the PW comes in at 44*. The #3 iron is 20*. is Strong no doubt. The last thing I'll say about it is that it's incredibly forgiving considering it's smaller size. All this cavity then the gel with the deep parimeter weighting and the abundant mass behind the impact zone make the iD Nabla Forged an iron that should be seriously considered if you're in this player segment.

This is interesting, some say custom is harder to sell, others say limited production is important, some say go with popular brands. I would also add that you as the seller are a big part. If you have a good network of trusted friends on the boards and you have built a name for yourself you will always people to bst with if you keep your clubs in good shape and have fair pricing. If you just pop in to sell then it could be little harder. Being inside the industry I'll say many brands abuse the term "Limited Edition" and use it as a selling point. If demand is high they often produce more, nearly everything is limited edition in essence anyway. It's like the term "Prototype" they are not "Prototypes". I think the product must be in demand as well as hard to get. Also very important is how the brand is perceived in the market.

Mizuno Yoro Craft Goodness – February 2014
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
After waiting a few weeks the customers what them stat. Amazing set's of Yoro's go out weekly but it causes a delay and costs money to reroute them to Tario or myself for photos. -
I can understand that you always want new stuff so you get rid of the old. Modart CBC, Epon's, Miura MB5005 with 4 custom grinds & custom finish, A properly designed set of Yoro's, Buchi CB tweaked in black boron or copper finish with a kanji in the cavity.

The new PRGR Super Egg Iron, pretty interesting I was about to brush it off until I say the minimal offset and wondered if PRGR is on to something. #Powered by Eggs #Ilikeinnovation

Ryoma Putters Now Available Here!
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
Shucks! Of all angles to forget. Sorry about that. I will do a blog post on these this weekend and will include the top view of the mallet. These are phenomenal and addictive putters so far. I'm 5 holes into the mallet now and it's like the answer but in a different head shape and more forgiveness. The mallet wants to go straighter on poorly struck putts than the answer does but the anser does provide a little more feel if you need to left to right or right to left a put purposely. -
Not many order Blinkers, I love the things they really work imo. Many custom designs can be made using Blinkers. You can design one or we can for you.

Is this Kobayashi-san's Final Design?
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
I was gonna say it looks like the 388's toe but I do see some zero in it. The weird marks on the crown Kobayashi believes promotes an inside out swing path. If you could only pick one, what is your all time favorite KK design? -

In Seon Kim is his name, we have used his services as well in the past. -
The Ryoma Putters should be up in the proshop today or tomorrow but for now we will offer forum members with over 100 posts first dibs and a special price. If your interested please email [email protected] (no PM's please). I've been rolling the new Ryoma Putters for 3 rounds now, I'm about to hand them off to Tatsuro so he can give it a go and post his feedback in the forums. When we first saw these putters in person at Ryoma's head office in Shinjuku they were just prototypes and did not look nearly as refined as the this retail version. I was pleasantly surprised to see the many improvements and even in feel since I hit i first hit them several months ago. Some people think anser style putters are all the same, this one is definitely different even if we left out it's radical face insert, the actual putter shape, and bulges are fresh, I like it's angles, it's slightly bigger than your usual anser as well. Then this wonderful face, so Ryoma doesn't come out and say exactly what it is it's their own special material. It has a weird click yet soft (in a very good way) feel to it, I remember my very first round after a few holes I thought it's ok and not bad but by the end of that round I noticed poorly struck shots had made it almost pin high where as normally I get penalized, could this be a more forgiving anser putter? I also noticed against my other putter with the same stroke it was a little shorter in distance. I also feel like the ball would move left to right less than normal and it was easier to hit straight. As Stew put it best, clicky and springy. I get it, you will too when if you get the chance. Stew also enjoyed it after only 15 minutes with it. To me the more I play it the more I enjoy it and find it unique. The reason why it's unique is this very thin face insert it's 0.9mm thick with some very light and unusual milling marks, behind that face there is a very shallow oval cavity. The putter head is made if SUS303 while the face is listed as "special alloy" I have no clue but I think it's a blend, at impact I feel aluminum mixed with something else... who knows I could be totally wrong. Anyway by the end of the 2nd round I was convinced it is the most forgiving and consistent anser putter I have ever hit. I'm on to the mallet now will post my thoughts in a few more rounds.

So Kobayashi-san is no longer at S-Yard, Being the president of S-Yard was supposed to be his last Job before retirement. Now that it's over it is unclear if he will remain in the golf industry or spend time with family and friends as a retired man. Whatever happens his latest designs were the Bold Wedge, 388, XV Driver, XV FW, XV Iron, and now the STARK series which is geared toward the slower swinger. Kobayashi-san claims it was the longest and best feeling driver of this player category. Look we can deny it, it's funky looking but look at that face profile, what's it remind you of? If "the man" really retires this could be his final design.

They have 2 different models in 2 finishes. The pre sale will go up tonight or tomorrow. I've been rolling these over the weekend. It's not as ugly as originally thought, big improvement over the prototype we seen a few months ago.
-
I'm still on a Honma tear, It's a weird thing as in the proshop its a big seller yet in the forum few want it. I've been able to hit much of their line up recently. It's better than most in fit/finish/feel/performance now it's just a matter of sharing it with those who have already made their mind up about the brand. Anyway TW-W Wedges... It's cast but feels so damn good.
-
Sorry I don't have pics, It's Craig's putter though so maybe he can chime in. Actually a few of these are his, From what I know it's black teflon finish with two orbital G weights on the sole. Not sure if any face milling was done.

lol GF totally, It's just a lefty putter with green translucent paint fill. looks so simple and great. If you need help building a putter just email me [email protected] It's a fun yet expensive process.
