Wedge with distance?
Common problem. Irons are designed one way, then blade wedges another. true Matching wedges are key but brands don't do it as they would sell far fewer blade wedges. If you must go blade wedges test the lofts out to see if they fill your gaps.

AXIS irons, wedges.. Waoow drivers
There isn't any process called CNC Forged. AXIS is using KYOEI forging and Oichi in others . S25C and S15 or SS400. Right now there is a huge issue with brands in Japan stating S20C when using SS400 or S15C. For example Axis Z1 wedge and irons is S25C by KYOEI - Z2 and MB is claimed S20C but its an Oichi blank thats never been offered in S20C. Oichi does not have S20C but I see brands using Oichi forgings and labelling them S20C. If I contact Oichi today there is no S20C. Also only the back face is CNC milled which is a travesty, Where CNC matters is that the face and grooves are milled not the back face. Also anything KYOEI has more presses and a precision press where Oichi does not have a precision press. Precision press is exactly what Miura calls W.D.D and Miura learned that at KYOEI. imo. forging vs forging KYOEI tops Miura and Oichi but for shape, fit and finish Miura wins. U guys want TSG to sell AXIS?

Headed to US PGA Show
loved the non-conforming shaft on the GIII. Thats the future of non-conforming if you ask me. spine at 6pm to avoid head droop. that's the ticket!

JDM Fairway Woods
face deep or shallow and the size of the head matters for the player. Ryoma for example. super forgiving and long but if your a shallow face player you may hit something like the Yamaha or Crazy longer. similar story very much to super egg FW by PRGR. I love MA01F and H. distance is no good, it's straight and low though with plenty roll, keeps me out of trouble. one mans longest is not another mans. depends on how we make contact and more.

Callaway Apex MB Tour Version Irons by Miura
I like the too buttThese are the MB-5003's Same Kyoshin Finish and spin welded hosels and grind. TSG has been saying MB-5003 is Miura's best blade since 2007, no one listened and while during that whole time USDM casuals is saying baby blade and 1957 is their best which by the way have not been used in Japan for over 20 years and are shovel shaped in the short irons. No idea why people's eye's can't the oversized look in their 8/9/PW for all the Miura Legacy models. Now the MB-101 comes out which is also the 5003 and all of suddenly everyone thinks 101 is the best. It's a 12 year old regurgitation branded as new for the global market TB-Zero will likely be the MB-102 in the future based on their release history. Here is how it goes - take old Japanese model, change stamping and release as new in the states. Oh boy can I go on a rant about this... let's take EVNROLL. while MGS, WRX and others are touting this as a revolutionary new groove pattern the tapered groove described in their patent in 2016 was in use since 2003 in Japan. Hoshino Gauge Design Putter, GTD Limited 150, Even the Reoness RP-02M has them in our proshop. Titleist VG3 comes well before C16 but everyone thinks the new T400 is based on the C16... nope. The predecessor of the C16 is the VG3 so that is the origin. compare VG3 Type-D to C16 and T400, not only in looks but tech and structure. PXG? HT1770, hollow, TPE in body that's not PXG, its Maruman, Bridgestone and Yamaha almost a decade before. USDM brands finally going Ti in fairways and UT's. omg. this is OEM's having to do this at the last moment to stay competitive on distance against each other while Japan has been doing this for a very long time before. All of the above examples are touted as new or fresh patents on WRX and MGS because these guys simply listen to what the brands tell them. A bunch of golf writers and testers not industry experts. You can tell they are in the OEM's corner when everyone releases new info on the exact same embargo date. Because if you don't then you are out of the media group. What kind of spy is that? rant over 🙂

Callaway APEX MB MIURA version
so we got a few of these. pricey though as I had to pay full price to get them. whats cool is they have milled grooves. It's the MB5003 basically. new trend is pros play milled grooves while retail models use pressed grooves. i.e rose protos from honma. more in the blog - http://blog.tourspecgolf.com/callaway-apex-mb-tour-version-irons/

KYOEI 1964MB
Yea so last march i was at kyoei and started looking at their past molds. pain of a job as these things are heavy to move. They have stuff that wasn't touched for decades but they are sitting on a gold mine. came up with this design and concept using the K1, their first blade mold. Lot's of history on this mold. Many victories a long while back. Very little offset, very classic lofts, strongest I could make the PW was 48*. will post more pics when the weather improves. more in the blog - http://blog.tourspecgolf.com/kyoei-mb-1964-irons/

Headed to US PGA Show
The show was crap... again. Big and pretty but nothing new other than some copper finished Mizunos which TSG clubworks can do on any iron. Show lacked knowledge other than what OEMs feed media. Everything Hypey, no emphasis on quality clubs or tech. more than half the show is apparel. All the clubs there are sold at PGA superstore already and we knew they were coming... everyones all dressed up in blazers. trying to find anyone at the booths who know anything other than generic marketing lingo is not possible. bummer! cant wait for Japan. I love see’ing factory uniforms on the dance floor. We need to create our own show for small brands. doesnt have to be JDM but small US makers too. I can get behind those who care, I cant stand employees who dont know shit or care to learn. clock out and go home. gonna skip tomorrow and fly out early. Was nice to hang with T thou. miss that guy.

What are JDM / USDM Clubs? Really?
My Issue with this logic is if a JDM brand has any dealers in the states is it no longer JDM and then would you consider it USDM? The U.S equipment industry to me is super generic and corporate. All the stores sell the same stuff. Heck look at mygolfspy, wrx, hackersparadise they are on the OEM media circuit fed info and told when to release it. In the pockets of the brand without getting paid...lol I guess they enjoy getting paid with info and free samples and not $$$.

Headed to US PGA Show
Will do!

Got 9 new designs ready for March /April 2020

Headed to US PGA Show
Last year I went. This year going again. Non-Exhibitor While the US Show is bigger there are never any surprises like at the Japan Show. I'll say hi to Tario (onoff) and Tat's(pxg) for you guys. Shall I cover the U.S PGA Show for giggles?

What are JDM / USDM Clubs? Really?
Yea so as Nob's says lines are blurred. KYOEI - owned and designed by the most handsome man who lives in USA 😉 while being made, finished and shipped from Japan - I consider JDM Honma is Chinese owned and made in China but finished yet originated in Japan - I consider this JDM. Titleist is Korean owned and made in China but originally from USA - I consider USDM Cleveland is Japan owned and made in China but originally from USA - I consider USDM SEVEN - owned and designed by the most handsome man who lives in USA 😉 while being made, finished and shipped from Japan - I consider JDM So we can't really go by who owns it. We can't really go by where it is made. We also can't go by where it was founded? Once we can determine a criteria I can post that as a sticky.

Club Fitting
That's the thing though, I don't agree there is a "proper" shaft frequency for anything. I like many believe shaft frequency CPM's is NOT a good way to measure flex or shaft performance.

What are JDM / USDM Clubs? Really?
I'm hearing people say JDM vs USDM. But what are JDM and USDM exactly? Technically it means Japan Domestic Market & US Domestic Market. All the Taylormade, Callaway, Titleist etc.. clubs are sold on the Japan Domestic Market too. Is the Taylormade SIM or Callaway Mavrik USDM or JDM? Do you go by who owns the co? Well TM used to be German, Titleist is Korean and now days brands get funding from investors all over the globe. Now consider that the single country that owns the most brands both big and small is Japan with USA coming in at second. Japanese brands are usually funded by Japanese banks. US brands are usually funded by global investors. We can't go by where its made as majority of all clubs are made in China. How do you guys wanna break this down in the future?

Why do I do this? .... :) Some PRGR RS & RS-F driver heads arriving soon.
I'd love to see the ball speeds of PRGR vs some of the bigger name brands. Yokohama rubber co has some serious tech.

Club Fitting
Everyone should try it. It does teach the golfer what type of numbers they produce and puts their strengths and flaws in view. I like fittings most to find my distance gaps. I have had a half dozen fittings, I used to do 6 hour fittings myself when we had retail stores in Cali. That said we have customers almost daily dump full fit sets for not fit sets and often shoot better scores but usually always enjoy more. None of our customers who know gear well and what works for them get fittings anymore. Basics = loft/lie/length/swing weight/grip size. Many more educated players already know what type of shafts work best for their swing, weight, flex, bend profile and sometimes materials. Then the business side of fittings. duplicatable process, cookie cutter, anyone can be taught to do fittings and the worse thing is customers walk out of stores with the fitters preferred brands. I started this game with fitters who could fit with their eyes. way more valuable as they see the entire picture. I support fittings especially for the masses who don't know their usual spin rates, launch angles and dispersion etc. What is most important to you in this game? Score? having fun? drinking or gambling? relaxing? How to put a numeric value on feel? shape? quality? materials and where it's made?

TB Zero
Yes I have a set of those callaway's by Miura in hand now. It's the MB-5003. Nope that's always been the trend. Every global model is a Giken model released years later. sometimes a tiny spec bump but essentially the same. The bottom line on Tb-Zero is it's their newest blade, short irons are shaped a little better than the MB-5003 which was always their best blade. The baby blade, 1957, Tourney or whatever you call them are all the same heads just different names...sad. They are also 20 year old molds. Miura Global leans on Giken to design the clubs. Giken always gets the best first. That said Miura's weak point has always been 8/9/PW shapes. A bit chunky in the neck.

My WTT (Want To Try) list for 2019/2020 off season
I hope to try the latest plastic putters and gimmicked out drivers to realize all I want is a stainless or carbon putter and a non-adjustable driver with an SP700 or DAT55G face.

TB Zero
No ego chart sorry. You can just specify what you want and we can quote you on it. Yes we do sell MG but in the background out of respect for Miura Global. TB-Zero no doubt their best blade. Likely Miura Global's next MB 3-5 years from now. MB-5003 is MB-101 By the way I just got a set of 2019 Callaway MB's brand new made by Miura 🙂

Is this the end of tsg forum?
Unfortunately I won't be doing those types of comparison videos that much so relying on other forum members for this is key. I will say don't put much weight in others opinions about golf clubs. Too many variables. Players need to spend more time learning how to fit themselves, its really easy to figure out comparisons when you consider, size, shape, material, 1 vs 2 piece, specs, the brand's other clubs etc.. We have all bought enough clubs to be able to understand what works and what doesn't for ourselves. Breaking down Yamaha vs Miura vs Epon vs PRGR on paper is more accurate than an actual fitting or video comparison. The logic is clear. 1 piece is smaller heads, feels better, is usually more workable, is not as long or forgiving. then cross reference the size of the club heads, the tech used and what irons it competes against, the tech, materials and specs speak volumes. Then on another level consider where it's made and how. Fittings are a joke now days. It's daily that people get full club fittings at say a club champion or PXG then a couple months later switch because what was longest, most forgiving, most accurate in the fitting doesn't play out the same way on course. Fitting is a cookie cutter process based on the same LM numbers, It's duplicatable so if one guy leaves another employee can be taught to do it. the same old fitting brands and sales strategies.. No mastery whatsoever. I long for the days fitting was done with experience and eye balls. Now everyone is an expert at everything online with no credentials. sorry about the rant.
