3 wood..... gives you more options off the tee (without sacrificing that much distance).... 4 wood is not comparable and the benefits from the fairway are not that much better
  2. you have to make the call... all i can tell you is I was in the same boat last year... i took a long time before I forayed in with irons (miuras) then wedges...and then almost a year later .....japanese drivers/woods/putters/shafts...... All i can say is that in hindsight i should have done it all last year..... equipment does make a difference...
  3. plus, if i am going to spend $400 on a shaft such as a Roddio, i might as well as get a good head such as the epon or tourstage...

dont want this to become a blade vs cavity debate...but I have played a number of cavities, and none of them close to the MP 33, x blade 2s and miura blades (my 3 blade sets)...the bad shots may be better with a cavity, but the good shots are not as good. for me, i am a very good iron /wedge player .... very few bad shots, many many more good shots in a round... off the tee was an issue for me... the epon clubs seems to have solved that problem and my handicap has dropped to the mid single digits this year (and I am confident of hitting close to par soon).... so thats what makes me wonder what an Endo designed (given that they have the benefit of forging so many designs) and forged blade could do to my iron game.... probably nothing...but one still wonders... Thanks for the suggestion on MR-23...any other 1020 double pressed butter knife's forged by endo that are up there with the best...

isn't it time they made them (the type j's may be close, but are not true blades)..... happy to be the guinea pig to test the protos....
  10. If i were to bet, I would probably say its a mix of both... (i) the way you shot the pics and (ii) rounder wedges tend to have the hosels start slighly closer than those have a longer heel to toe length.
  11. (i) i prefer raw black finish that rusts over time... (ii) I also prefer more compact heads (probably less forgiving, but I am not looking for forgiveness from a wedge, but precision), particularly for the digging from rough shots... (iii) Also the grooves are too close to the hosel for such a rounded shape wedge... (iv) leading edge looks a bit curved in the picture, prefer a straight leading edge... the curve makes the toe too high... probably makes it difficult for the ball to climb up the face of the wedge for those controlled spin shots. And i like to look at the sole and the back of the wedge before deciding on anything...
  12. Agree on the appreciation point (although Brand New sets of really classic sets sometimes tend to defy gravity, not sure if all the gauge design irons will do), ... but being able to play with a great set is....
  13. Agree... but being able to play with a good set years later is...
  14. did you get any more details?
  15. Since I put the Epon 13.5* with GD quattro 75s, I have been hitting drives averaging 250-260 yards with the 3 wood....with some longer..... My driver is not that much longer, maybe 20 yards or so...with the ocassional longer drive...but I feel that I have significantly less accuracy with the driver... The loft difference between the two clubs is 2*. The other major difference is the 3 wood is 43* and the driver is 45". Since I get a mid-to-high flight with both clubs.... I started wondering that if I put in a shaft in the driver that was say 43.5", am I likely to experience more accuracy with more forgiveness (driver head is probably 2.5-3 times the 3 wood).... with maybe 270-280 yard distance... I know people do play with 44.5*, but has anybody experimented with 43 or 43.5" shafts in the driver and if so what were the results. do you still play with it?
  16. I did. Thanks. After another round... I can say with confidence that this wedge is deadly.... full shots, half shots... chips...the spin.....can't wait for the 53*
  17. Context... I generally play 52/56/59 zodia combination. My backup set is 52/56/60 GFT wedges.... But I have played many others, Titliest spin milled, y-cutters, Xtours, Gas 2 and Gas 1.... As i have become a better player with the driver........I have realized that I am either within the 10-40 yards from the green (par 5s or missed shots, or overshooting the green or getting a bad bounce... Coupled with the par 5s, long par 3s (on my course, three play close to 200 with severe dropsoffs) and some par 4s... I can find myself in this situation about 7-8 times a round if not more.... So I have learnt to hit the lob wedge very well.. However, the greens on my course are very fast (usually at 11-12), and severely undulating. You have to stop the ball on the right level....or you are facing a difficult put over 30-40 feet. With the zodia 59 (and most of the other wedges)....I needed to have a steeper swing, because of the higher bounce on japanese lob wedges and less leading wedge relief (probably works better on japanese golf courses...no idea), but it results in a ball that rolls a bit more.. I wanted a japanese wedge that will allow me to get under the ball very quickly...from the fairway, the rough, anywhere.... the zodia was great from the rough or full shots, but for open faced lob shots that were 5-10 yards and needed to stop within 4-6 feet of landing.... it was found wanting.. The Yururi 61* wedge is a very classy looking wedge (i am not putting pics up as there enough up already), but the black look is princely... The 61* has 5* bounce which is relatively lower (that attracted me to the wedge and the 2* of higher loft), but the kicker is that it has much much better leading edge grind that allows the club to glide under the ball... the leading edge grind of the zodia 59* (my primary lob wedge till now) tends to bounce a bit when played open-faced.... My specs were 1150 stiff , D-5 SW and 35" length. Ultimately, results count..I rate a lob wedge by how many balls end up in the one - putt range (which is generally anything within 5-6 feet for me - generally have a 80-90% success on those putts). I had 10 ocassions to use the lob wedge in the round yesterday (I deliberately chipped with it when normally I would have used a 52*)... three of them were shots from 30-50 yards over trouble (bunkers etc..).. two of these shots were within the one-putt range... the rest of the shots were even closer - 2-3 feet away..... The reason... i could feel the ball climbing up the face of the wedge and when it landed on the green it bit almost immediately and rolled for 4-5 feet, no more...when I tried to zip it back a couple of times... it zipped back more than usual (means I have to allow more room for it next time).... It feels softer than the zodias...I am going to play the GFTs again next week to compare the feel with them... In the end... the wedge turned out everything that I had hoped it will be...I really love opening its face an hitting the high soft shots.....When I close it it flies longer, but still bites a lot and doesn't roll that much more.... The zodia 56 and 59* came out of the bag... in went a gfield 5 wood (to be replaced with the Epon 5 wood when its delivered) and the yururi 61*. Also, I ordered a 53* Yururi to go with the 61* I will post an update after I have played 10-15 rounds with it......
  18. cash or trade, pm me
  19. Looks like the x-ut with nspro is getting the thumbs up..... makes me wanna try it. Any one have a 19* or 21* that they want to get rid of, I will be interested
  20. I am less concerned with loft....but face angle is important... if a square driver that I buy is 2* open, then its a fade bias driver and I need not fight it, thinking its my swing... or not wonder why when i tried a hard fade.... it turned into hard slice.... Information is King....just asking for the right info is not that bad.
  21. Good to know on Epon. Actually, i remember comparing my two Epons (0.5*) and Square and they appeared to the naked eye ok.
  22. No wonder the absolutely straight shot is rarer and rarer. Also, looks like the famed japanese quality control and low tolerance levels are not witnessed in drivers...no different than the US drivers. I wonder if our custom drivers are similarly off.. ..
  23. The 61* degree Yururi Wedge just got delivered today. It will see the course on Friday. review to follow. Wedge game is one of my strengths. so, lets see how it compares to the Zodias KM tour Us spec, GFt Wedges, Gas 2 etc.
  24. In my view, feel is overrated. Whats important is whether you are in the fairway 250+ yards out. If the worst looking, deadest sounding driver did that for me, I will be playing it. I want to score low. period. Having said that, my EPON + Roddio is having the best results for me in terms of fairway and 250+ yards distance..... added bonus is that it sounds good, feels good. But if the former got afffected, it will be replaced in no time without a thought for its feel/sound. Gocchin, your post was helpful to me.... feels like there is no reason for me to try any other driver as the Epon ranks so high compared to all the other I have never tried..
