+TourSpecGolfer
We received a couple of the new Tourstage 901 Limited Edition Drivers last week and here are the images below. The new Tourstage has a slightly open face angle with a fade bias and unlike the other new X-Drives it doesn't have the same red highlights painted onto the sole. It is made of Forged Titanium Ti811 for a muted ti type of feel. Sitting at 445cc's it is visually stunning with perfect pear shape. The 901 is aimed at the athlete/scratch/low handicap golfer who is a good driver of the ball.
TBone
Much shallower than previous X-Drive's....I like it!

gus
Exactly; I could never really undertand why they produced such a deep faced; low spin model of driver for the Japanese marketplace; just doesn't seem to fit the demographic. Also good to see the grooves are absent across the face as well. I'm digging this one but really looking forward to hearing feedback regarding the 701G model; seems like the first one I can remember in the Tourstage lineup that balances the desires of the better players with increased launch and forgiveness. Call me crazy but even a scratch player needs equipment they can feel confident over right! BB Edited November 11, 2008 by BigBen

BB You're exactly right B, more and more players on the Japanese tour are going with higher lofts, shallower faces, more MOI. Even the trend is changing in irons with less playing blades and more playing forgiving CB's.
gus
Why not; MOI means reduced twisting and straighter drives; I do no know any good players (including my friends on tour) who ever stop looking for more consistancy. I'm so over extremely deep faced designs; like I said the 701G seems just about right! What appeals to me the most is the combination of square faces and MOI; that's always been the missing piece for me in the J Spec driver market. It was always shallow=closed and deep=square to open. This appears to be square=mid/shallow w/MOI....PERFECT!!!!!!!!!! Edited November 11, 2008 by BigBen
jacksonlui
i tend to miss up and down the face rather than across so i prefer a deep faced driver, to me that look better. this driver looks like it was assimilated by the borg! so far i'm having a honeymoon period with my geotech and the emb is sitting in a closet. Goodsie
TourStage is slowly moving their head profiles closer the wonderful Ping G5 shape (for shame) but really, that head worked with tremendous results for something that was welded together on the mountain in China. I put quality "Tuned" shafts in these heads all the time with amazing results. Several guys have bought multiple heads and put them in the drawer for future insurance against them disappearing altogether. With Japanese engineering and the swift improvements in Driver face technology (Spider face design, triple "X" design, varying thickness designs, heel/toe chemical milling) plus the fantastic improvements in laser welding, some JDM OEM should pull out the G5 head and put one of these hot faces in it, then stand back and watch the reviews laud the way this Driver would perform. TourStage seems to be moving in that direction with their new line up. So TourStage should have a very good year in 2009 with their new Drivers, in my opinion. Well put G, with manufacturers limited by R&A/SLE rules they can only turn to technology and design (and of course better shafts). Tourstage has definitely moved away from the deeper face as BigBen said, everyone could use some forgiveness. Add in all the tech and top notch materials and you have a wonderful feeling and performing driver. I see you've been reading all the product descriptions I write for all the stuff in the pro shop. Glad to see. (^_^)
Phillip Alexander
A simple comment. This looks like a golf club to me particularly at address. Super job by the Tourstage boys in my view!!
corky3
Anyone actually hit on 09 X-drive yet? Do they feel or sound any different to previous offerings? As a long term TS User i'm a little sad to see the new looks, they seem to have been following TaylorMade a lttle too closely latterly...blacksoles/faces and now all kinds of starwar inspired mouldings on the sole, I actually loved the full face grooves....ah well progress I s'pose?, maybe I'll learn to love 'em? samuee
Now I'm a Tourstage fan like everyone else but does anyone see a Ping driver especially the picture of the face?
+TourSpecGolfer
Now I'm a Tourstage fan like everyone else but does anyone see a Ping driver especially the picture of the face? Not really, I notice a difference in the toe area as well as the difference between the center height vs the heel and toe.
shoe295
I really like the shape of that, it doesn't look like something out of Arthur Clarke's imagination. Smaller always appears better to my eye, just because it does if that makes sense. I enjoy some of the designs on the sole of the club because they do look like something from Mr. Clarke's imagination. Those don't bother me because I can't see them when I'm looking at the club at address. This may be the year I try a Tourstage driver with this more user friendly design. idrive
I can promise you this, The Driver looks unbelievable in Person. It is gorgeous. At address it has the best look of any Driver I have ever had my hands on. Unfortunately I am still about 2 months from being able to hit it and give any feedback but, if the look and set up are any indication of how it is going to perform we have a winner here. Nosiness forgiven. Yes, it is the 901. Graphite Design EV-7s I am a huge fan of GD and after studying the swing profile of the shaft I felt like that it would be the best fit for me of the stock shafts offered. The SW is D2 which is also my preference. I'm also starting to think that a lot of the JDM manufactures know which shafts perform best in their clubs. As of late I have had great success with some of the stock shaft offerings. The Graphite shafts for the Drivers and FW's in particular. Same here, the Japanese seem to fit their stock shafts better with the heads produced. i.e Mizuno MP-600 JDM stock shaft, quad 6, and Tourstage has been known to do a good job also. Rumor is that some of these stock shafts are the same as the upgrade shaft but painted differently.
