Best JDM Fairway wood?
Still a fan of the Miura Precious Edition and Yonex Nextage. But I have moved on from FW in general.

Graphite wedge shaft - light weight
Opinions are like... What is that saying again... I use the W shaft that I put into my irons. To say that only 50* and higher is a scoring club is a problem. I would say 8 iron and down at least should be scoring clubs...

Yamaha Tour Iron build help
Bogey, I play both the Attas Tour and the IS980/990 and like both of them a lot. Think the Attas edges the IS out though.OP has club detail. In this case, neither are offered as options by Yamaha in the Tours. Since the cost difference is material when doing the after market shafts vs having the mfg put them in, then I am trying to go that route. So which would you do, play maximum length to your spec, or shorten and play maybe a half club down? Stew, That solid graphite pole is one of the reasons I have not gone the Diamana route in the past. Again, not having played any Diamana shaft to date, I do not know how true to flex they are. But the only iron shafts I have played that are not a true X for me are the Crazy CBI Evo series. Definitely looking forward to your feedback on them.

I'm in… One more nuance that will need to be dealt with is skip weeks. Between the vacations people take and some of us travel for work, you will need a way to handle going out of rotation but being able to get back into line again...

Onoff Fairway Wings 18 UT Price Drop Close off to ebay
Yeah, but I like the more iron like look of the Type S of the current models. Odd question, why not drop the length of the club to fit your gap? I should add that this is a great utility club, my preferences are the ramblings of a lunatic...

I know the answer… But would agree with Spoon. Give them a swing side by side before letting go of these...

Yamaha Tour Iron build help
I do not know the answer about adding tip weight for a lower ball flight. My favorite trajectory shaft was the SP Blue. The Attas/RomaRo combo approaches that level and am quite happy with it.

Yamaha Tour Iron build help
A 5 iron shaft from Quadra and many other JDM mfg comes raw at 965mm or ~38" which means I am dependent on hosel to floor measurement to get what I need lengthwise out of the shaft. Similar to you Ian I play a 38.5" 5-iron. So you are cutting off a bare minimum of shaft at the butt to make it even, but not much else. My concern is that ends up "soft stepping" the shaft a little and as I already have issues with trying to keep my ball flight down I have a few concerns with that. The other issue at that point is SW as the club goes to a ~D8 Hence the request for peoples thoughts. Am I paranoid, or should I play it a little shorter or any other thoughts. I need to ask T to ask the mfg what their thoughts are...

That is a very generous offer Chris.

Yamaha Tour Iron build help
I have not tried the Quadra irons. Have tried a UT before and like it OK. In this case, Yamaha doesn't offer it and it will have the same build challenges described in the original thread. Would you be concerned with having a shaft play at maximum length possible?

We talking single clubs or whole sets? If we are talking single clubs, maybe we could just set up an escrow account that everyone pays into as "insurance". I think the constant Paypal would become problematic. Not to exclude people, but are we talking about a global group or what, as shipping internationally as well as potential customs charges could become an issue? I'm likely in… Even have a first club to add to the rotation… Epon Personal 9 iron… Had it stolen, T sourced a replacement and the original was subsequently returned to me a little worse for wear...

Any Truth To This?
Not saying not to sell at a premium and to varying degrees based on manufacture vs assembly vs design. Just that I don't want to have to parse the words and then do research that is sometimes impossible to complete. I want the words to tell me the truth and be meaningful. Sometimes the price alone from a mfg. is enough to indicate. A hypothetical: Epon were to sell two clubs both called Personals V2. One was stamped "made by EPON" and sold for $1200 and the was stamped "made in Japan" and sold for $1400. I am perfectly happy for that. Although would prefer to have different models. Those that are satisfied with the Brand reputation would go after the cheaper iteration. Those that are into it for other reasons can spend the extra. But consumers would be able to imply by the stamp, not have to research Endo factory production schedules that are not published. Not trying to pick on Epon, just using the name for example purposes...

Yamaha Tour Iron build help
Hey Stew, I have not tried the Diamanas. They are supposed to be very good. Do you always play stiff shafts in your irons? Am a little surprised considering the driver SS and flexes. I end up with a massive draw, bordering on a hook, with stiff shafts in my irons. Have you considered hard stepping? Would love to hear your thoughts on them. Especially in comparison to the SP Blues, that is my target flight. Out of curiosity though, why not have Yamaha build up the set with them in it in stead of getting the components separate? Yam is offering the Diamana and GD shafts as stock upgrades.

Any Truth To This?
XXIO, We really aren't that far off. I understand that there are different parts and work done in different countries for different reasons. My point is the fact that there need to be laws about tagging a product as "made in" is unfortunate to begin with. If a manufacturer stands behind the product then made in markings should be superfluous. Epon/Endo is a great example, I don't think anyone here cares what facility Endo does the work in as there is an implied QC for Endo. TM on the other hand has different products made to different standards based on the market and price point they are selling to. Clothing is another example of labels and lines making a difference. Look at Ralph Lauren for example; purple label, black label, polo, polo made for each indicates a different a different level of quality in materials and workmanship. Watches are similar. In house movements vs ETA or Valjoux or Miyota also were they modified or just decorated by the watch brand. Brands and lines should carry the reputation not the country of manufacture. If a particular country has the best, then in my layman's view, and assuming the item has more than aesthetic purposes, any component that has an impact on the performance should come from that country. Otherwise mark it by brand, not by country of origin. Made in markings has more to do with customer perception, nationalism and taxation then anything else. Quality crafts people produce a quality product irrelevant of location....

Yamaha Tour Iron build help
Hey Ed... Before I built my set of Miuras and TS 905s with their respective shafts I did a bracket tournament with about 20 different shafts of different weights, flexes and brands, Aerotech included. Also futzes with hard and soft stepping and trimming where appropriate. While they felt great as did the Modus and a couple of others, I could not keep the ball flight down enough with a normal swing. I could control the trajectory some but I didn't have a real low piercing shot option. Just higher, high and mid high with them. Good thought though and great shaft, just doesn't align to me... As an aside, how is the Vega? Still getting dirty looks at the range?

Any Truth To This?
Personally I am tired of having to do the research... I might not be able to find out all the nitty gritty details about where some items are made vs assembled. If it says made in Japan it should be just that. If it is made by Endo, with components sourced from various Endo locations then it should not say, made in Japan. It should say made by Endo. Same should be true of all mfg goods. Whether it be clothes, sporting equipment or vehicles... I know that is an oversimplified view as something's have thousands upon thousands of component parts, like a car or computer, but you get the drift...
