Calling Seattle area TSGers..
We're thinking our next round will be Saturday May 13. undecided on location... but likely a location between Seattle and Bellingham. If the Vancouver folks don't mind the additional drive, we could do South of Seattle as well. Who's in!!? Chris, are you coming out with us?

Looking for a lighter steel shaft with weight flow
Thanks! I use the Monaco prototypes which were the same progressive design as the DG Pro. I guess I am just looking for something lighter.

Awesome!!! Good choice in the shaft!! Of the steel steel shafts I have tried in the past, I think DG S200 and Modus 120 both enhance the forged feel the most. Chrome finish has such a classy look to it! Congrats!

Looking for a lighter steel shaft with weight flow
Currently using TT Monaco Protos shafts in my Shinagawa MBs. I love this combo ... but I have to give it some good Oomph to get good flight out of my long irons. I had MCI Black 100S in my last set of irons, the 4 iron was so easy to hit. I think because of the lighter shaft weight in the longer irons. I really like this idea of progressive weight flow iron shafts. On the other hand, I really prefer the feel of steel. DG AMT shafts are also progressive but I prefer a lighter set around 100g. Nippon has a 950GH WF model that ranges from 98g thru 103g ... might be a bit light for my liking but nevertheless, I am thinking about giving them a try. If anyone has experience with these, I would like to know if these are high launch or mid launch. Also are there any other weight flow steel shafts in the 100 to 110g range that I should be looking at?

7 wood vs hybrid
Dr Shanks and Suheric both used Egg Hybrids last week during our round. They were hitting them very well!!

7 wood vs hybrid
I used to bag a 7W right around the time Bubba carried one... just wanted to test the differences. 7W is definitely easier to launch ... but my problem was that it went too high and I was less consistent compared to a 3UT. My current set up is 15* 3W ( 230 carry ) then 19* 3UT ( 210 carry ) then 4 iron ( 185 carry ) and so on... gets the job done in most cases. I also have a lower launching shaft in my UT which helps avoid ballooning for shots into the wind.

Modart MA01D+
No worries. Happy to help. I have found that Modart's website is not up to date with their newest products. Blogs from custom club builders in Japan usually have the latest information. If you are not a Japanese reader, you just need to use Google translate a bit ... but usually works.

Full review please!! :) Glad to hear it works! I need to try one.

Modart MA01D+
MA01D+ looks to be their HI Cor version MA01D+R is the shallower more forgiving model of their line up.

They both have great feel at impact for sure.

Mizuno 2017 MP Craft Driver!
After reading a bunch of Japanese reviews about this new MP driver on how its better than '17 M2 and Epic, I had to give this a try. Not that I needed a new driver, since my Grandista LS / Seven Dreamers combo works really well for me, I just needed to try and experience for myself to validate the rumors. So I went ahead and picked up a used one. What is kind of nice with these is that Mizuno was able to significantly reduce the retail price of these drivers compared to past MP Craft drivers and so from a price point, it is now comparable to the latest USDM drivers as well. I got the Type 2 which is the 460 cc model. I thought about getting the 435 cc Type 1 as well but for the purpose of trying, either model was okay. It came with the stock Tour AD JD-1 shaft but without even trying, I re-shafted with a Rogue 125MSI that I had acquired specifically for this head. No point in spending the time trying a "made for" shaft that I knew was not going to work for me. Before I get into my review .. some background.. I am a Mizuno driver fan. I currently own a 2014 MP Craft driver and I have owned many other MP drivers in the past (611 The Craft, MP Craft 513, MP Craft 425, US MP 650, MP 630 Fastrac, MP 600 Fastrac, MP.001) What I love about Mizuno MP drivers in general are that they look great, sound great and feel great. They really perform well too... well, only if your swing is up to the job... the past models without exception were not the easiest drivers to tame. So when Mizuno announced this new driver, I was really excited to hear that they focused their development efforts for more distance as well as forgiveness ( specifically on the 460cc version ) ...After all that's really the name of the game in the current market of drivers. Since Mizuno already had the Looks and Sound/Feel parts mastered, if they could catch up on the distance and forgiveness against USDM drivers, wouldn't that be awesome?!! After a couple of range sessions, I think it is safe to say Mizuno has caught up with the American Big Boys in those areas. First time out to the range, I immediately fell in love with the sound and feel it produced. Mizuno has their sound and feel technology down especially with their MP line of clubs. The Harmonic Impact Technology simply does not disappoint! Compared to the 2014 MP Craft, sound wise, the Type 2 has a bit more clearer and slightly higher pitch tone much like the Modart MA01DS but far from being annoying, it is very pleasing o the ears. Feel is signature Mizuno MP... I personally think Mizuno drivers are softer feeling than Epon drivers. Reminds me of the Titleist 983K driver which I personally think is the all time feel champion since the introduction of titanium drivers. On to performance impression. I use a Yupitel Atlas swing trainer that gives me swing speed, ball speed, smash factor and estimated distance. Though I realize it does not give me the details as a Trackman L/M would, it gives me a general sense of whether a driver is a good performing driver or not. Here is what I saw in comparison to my Grandista. Grandista / Seven Dreamers 45.5" Mizuno MP Driver Type 2 / Rogue 125 MSI 45.25" the numbers from top to bottom show swing speed , ball speed, distance and smash factor Notice, that while the swing speed is slower on the MP Driver I am still getting nearly the same distance. It is because the smash factor is higher on the Mizuno. And not just this one shot but it was consistently higher .. ( BTW, This smash factor is with STRATUS range balls... the reading will generally be lower compared to real balls. I expect with real balls, the smash factor will be even higher. ) They mentioned how they successfully enlarged the effective sweet spot on the face. I think the consistently higher smash factor shows that. This MP Driver face is extremely hot!! As I mentioned at the beginning, reviewers in Japan had the chance to compare this against Epic Sub Zero as well as TM M2 drivers.. they all say that distance wise, MP is equally long... Forgiveness, Sound and Feel, they all agree that the MP wins by miles!! So as you can see, I now have a problem in hand... I am really intrigued to try my Seven Dreamers shaft in this MP Type 2 head. From a consistency and accuracy perspective, Grandista / 7D combo is still better .. but probably because I have more time with it and probably because of the shaft. The Rogue 125MSI shaft is really good .. but after all it is an off the rack shaft as opposed to a custom fabricated shaft designed for my swing. Perhaps I just need to bite the bullet and get another Seven Dreamers? So there you have it. For those JDM fans who have switched to USDM drivers because of perceived distance inferiority of JDM drivers in recent years, here is your chance to once again join the "Light side of the Force" ( or is JDM the Dark side?? :) ) Oh and one more detail, I believe the Quick Switch shaft adapter used in the MP is the same one used in the global model JPX900 driver. Adjustable from 7.5 to 11.5 deg... with Upright settings also. I played with it at the range and the effects were very noticeable. Thanks for reading!!

The New SEVEN CB
Lucky me!! I had a chance to hit these Seven CBs the last few days. So I wanted to share my thoughts on these new irons. Looks: The fully milled form of this CB is nothing like I have seen before. So precise and exact looking. At address, the overall look provides a hint of forgiveness. However, the reduced offset will appeal to seasoned players and the top line will inspire confidence for mid to high handicap players. From that perspective, I think these irons will be popular with a wide range of players. Love the pointy toe shape! Performance: First, when these had MCI shafts in them. For me, these shafts provided very high trajectory.. perhaps too high. I thought I was losing a bit distance because it went too high... I then switched them out with DG S200 and boom! I got my usual distance back. I think they get good distance for being traditionally lofted. I was getting 165 to 170 yd carry with a 6 iron. These CBs, I would say, are on the forgiving side for a players cavity back. For me, they were easy to work left and right without being twitchy. The sole design looks like it will work well with players who hit down given the nice leading edge relief but also work well with sweeper type players with the slightly wider sole design that will glide thru the turf. Feel: With the MCI shafts, they felt a bit firmer than what I expected from a forged CB head. After switching the shafts to DG S200 it was like night and day! Wow! these CBs feel so good at impact! a dense yet soft feel that could go head to head against any high end JDM forged CB iron out there. You can actually feel the ball sticking to the face a split second longer before being launched. This feel is very addicting. Summary: I hear that these irons also come in a more "fresh off the milling machine" look with the mill marks retained everywhere which I think is so cool given that most irons on the market has a smooth surface/sole. I personally prefer the look with the milling marks. These CB's live several leagues above your typical mass produced forged players CB's of popular JDM brands. To use an analogy, if Miura were Ferraris and Epon were Lamborghinis of irons... I'd think these Seven CBs would be like Koenigsegg. If you are in the market for a players CB iron, I highly recommend you take a good look at these!

Right. The screws are made in three different material. Tungsten 3.8g Stainless Steel 2g Titanium 0.9g I played with the location of these weight screws and it really provides a different bias and trajectory depending on how you distribute the weights. This is such a good driver. I would buy it I already din't have one!!

how is the sound with the hot melt? Do you know how many of the tungsten screws (3g) it has? replacing them to lighter screws could easily get the weight down to 200g or less. This is one of the most forgiving JDM heads out there. GLWS.

KYOEI Blade Pics!
I've played raw Mizuno irons before and the feel at impact is a subtle difference. My opinion is that the shaft selection has much to do with the overall feel of irons as well as the types of balls you use. Another thing to bare in mind is that raw finishes will obviously rust over time and so if you want your irons to look nice and shiny for years to come, then I would recommend going with plated finishes. The Kyoei MB I got to test had DG S200 shafts in them and they felt phenomenal with range balls even though it was a plated finish Had a nice solid dense feel and not a mushy soft. I am sure with softer tour balls, the feel would even be better.
