2015 Vokey Cold Forged Japan Wedges
We expected great things from the new Cold Forged Vokey from Titleist and they delivered. The cold forged is back and further improved for 2015! The previous version was a major hit with TSG members and clients one our best selling wedges we have ever had and already the new cold forged is picking up where it left off. This year offered with lofts between 48* and 60* in 3 different grinds the F, M, and K Grinds all made with a more medium bounce profile making them extremely versatile for all types of conditions. Why would Titleist only offer a forged wedge in Japan and not everywhere else and I don't know the reason perhaps it's a supply or cost issue or maybe it because the majority of golfers and especially outside of Japan don't particularly have a preference on what materials were used to make their golf clubs. F-GRIND - In my opinion the most versatile of the 3 grinds with few faults it's slight leading edge provides a way to open the face but just a little and not a lot, its sole width is medium to narrow and it has just a little camber. It's killed leading edge helps move turf while the overall design allows you to utilize bounce more effectively without having to open up the club face. Only available in 48/08, 50/08, 52/10, and 56/14* loft/bounce. K-GRIND - This wider sole is rounded and doesn't dig as easily, it's high bounce and shape works great for bunkers, high rough, soft or wet conditions and a player who comes in steep or makes big divots may appreciate some of its traits. Only available in 58/12 M-Grind - This mid bounce wedge is available in most lofts and in the 58* you can choose between mid or high bounce options. It's designed for the more slider sweeper impact type and plays great for someone who wants to open the club head for even more loft around the greens and finally it has a slightly killed leading-edge that works well in getting the club face under the ball. Only Available in 54/10, 56/10, 58/08 and 60/08* Loft/Bounce. And now my review: Spin - Better than most good as it gets for conforming grooves, they incorporate the latest TX3 spin milled technology and what Titleist did is make the 48 - 54* grooves more narrow while the 56-60 is deeper giving you stronger spin where you need it most. Distance - I don't judge wedges with distance. Feel - Dense/Firm/ Kinda Soft and remember shaft & grip make a difference but If they could make these a little bit softer I would be happier and that's not knocking them they feel really great still. Accuracy - Excellent - these wedges have it all and near shape perfection the "Cold Forged" process they refer to is forging where they control and suppress heat and deformation for a more accurate material you can do anything with these wedges and they are forgiving which make them accurate. Forgiveness - Excellent It's got the size and its got the grind and design to just offer everything really well, some offset where offset is best utilized and when it's well balanced like this the result is feeling of confidence and reliability which make them forgiving. I found impact to not be as soft as expected from a forged wedge but still very nice and more importantly better than most, spin was between good/great and I usually play non-conforming so I have a decent sense of what poor/good/great/and finally ludicrous spin is but to make further comparisons the, S-Yard Bold was "great" spin for a conforming wedge, Yururi Gekku Raw Non-Conforming is ludicrous spin and these are almost great if that helps. What would I change? not much it's brushed satin is gorgeous, could use less stamping, these are all the wedge most of us could possibly want.

Low spin 13.5* Driver
You will get more spin with a higher loft so consider it on a low spin head like a Jbeam.

JBEAM 435 Black Out Driver In Hand Pics!
There is a way to get more out of this club. I'm still in awe of it but if you can find a shaft and build that gets you to 2600-2800 rpm with say 12-13* launch angle you can gain bigger distance. So with 3000rpm and 14* launch it was longer than everything I had, I'm slowly bringing down spin and it's helping with my launch and distance has increased an additional 10 yards on average with the launch monitor. So I've found the head, found a good shaft yet not sure if it's gonna be the one as 7D's are coming, but the fine tune of spin and launch is taking this a step further. prior to the blackout i was not long @ 100mph about "235yds real" distance with most clubs again this is on trackman not my eyes. with blackout I gained about 10yds, by reducing spin and launch i'm getting another 10yds. Now on TM I'm at 255-259yds real distance. That's almost 24yds gain guys. My ZY-11 is a hair longer than the blackout. I contribute this to Jbeams heads but also shaft advancements and taking a methodical approach to getting my numbers right.

Interesting ONOFF Prototype Wedge
Same here, got mine but won't be able to test or shoot them for maybe a couple of weeks. They look interesting that's for sure.

Fourteen Wedges
Worth noting too is that Suda-san of Modart was the wedge guy at Fourteen at this time. He can do any of these grinds custom with adjustments although the price is not anywhere near the same, the head forging and grind work is superior as he did not grind these but designed them.

Basileus AAA TT1100G 80T Limited Edition Shaft
While it played well on course I made the mistake of putting it on track man to realize I was losing distance with too much spin 3000rpm, so I'm now testing ZY-11 with 60 Stiff and will check spin next week on the LM.

iron lofts thoughts...,
I like both, 47* or 45* in the PW don't bother me one bit. I prefer 52/58 so I can carry more woods or a second driver but if my PW is stronger I have a gap, sure I can muscle my way through it or back down on a stronger loft but the result suffers so based on what model 45* it is, because design does matter and so does build (not all equal lofts have the same distance) I may have to go 52/56/60 and drop a wood. No Biggie I mean we all got a dozen wedges in the closet right?

This is a Honma Custom Finish.

Honma TW-727M in Sakata Black Nickel Finish
It looks simply bonkers in person, it's called Sakata Black Nickel Finish and it's a plating that feels soft and sticky when you tap your nail on it and especially when a ball is compressed against it which reminds me of the kuro's soft feel at impact. Hitting it side by side against the standard finish the black nickel feels much softer at and yes it is a plated finish so it won't rust on you. The standard finish is no slouch it's a stunning high gloss brushed satin but this custom finish looks like a dark chrome, sorta evil looking don't you think?

Basileus AAA TT1100G 80T Limited Edition Shaft
I've got eight rounds under my belt with this shaft, and it's legit. Toray is a prepreg supplier who has created a material called TT1100G which you are starting to see being used in more and more shafts like the MUSO AP & NSPro Formula MB as it's a very stable material that is affordable with excellent feel. Brands that are using this I notice like to create shafts that play slightly softer and its working very well for them. This material doesn't have as boardy of a feel as traditional 80T, it's also not as heavy so making a 50 gram range shaft using TT1100G isn't a problem anymore the best part is I had 2 shafts to try a 60 Stiff and a 50 Regular both which I inserted into a Jbeam Black Out 435 10* 200g head, the 60 Stiff felt great I could sense the kick and it was smooth with this head combined with my swing it was mid trajectory a little lower than I wanted but dead straight and loooong. So I was expecting to keep it but still heard a little voice in my head saying "put it in the ryoma special tune" so that's where it went and I think it's the perfect club, not as straight as the Jbeam but it totally stablized the Maxima and with it's high launch it was longer than the Black Out by a few. So with the black out benched for a couple of rounds I figured what they heck let's slap the 50g R flex in it and much to my surprise it held up, normally I would be right and over power a 50G R flex especially Basileus which IMO play softer with more feel but I suspect this material kept it in check because the kick was even more apparent and strong and with the blackout this thing was just perfect! My 7D's are not here yet but based on results and a lot of time I don't see how anything can knock this out of the bag but maybe I will be in another thread a month from now saying how the 7D is longer?? I really don't care at the moment because the Black 435 w/AAA is smooth, hard kicking, still straight, mid/high launch and with this head has very little spin. The distance is longer than the non-conforming 60 Stiff Maxima Combo, which is an insanely great rig. So I've got two drivers with the same shaft in different specs that I won't let go of. I give props to Trias, the owner and maker of Basileus and Torray for creating TT1100G. It intrigues me so much I've got the MUSO and Formula MB on the way to see how those with the same material stack up, not sure as design is very important and especially how well that design pairs with the players swing. I'm a happy camper now with my blackout and my maxima.

2015 Epon Zero Driver
Not all Black face finishes are the same, when these first were on the market the complaint was vs the silver versions they felt harder but some faces don't have this issue, that leads me to think its a specific type of finish problem or a material + finish issue.

Egg1 VS Egg 7 comparison test 7.5* vs 9*
Glad you can appreciate these as I do, have you tried the RS01 yet? that's another great stick, not Egg1 piercing traj. but it's got a touch more spin and higher launch yet still the 01 is good for harder hitters like yourself. what tracks have you and the Dr. played so far?

A-GRIND Classic Driver In Hand Images
It's conforming, and no all other factors are not the same because it's a totally different design. It's similar to the smaller Royal Collection drivers from years back that like this one were not the best for distance, forgiveness, and feel.

TSG Club Works To Offer OM - Open Model Series
how about this one..lol --- I think what some are forgetting is that these are open model heads, the designs are already made with limitations on what can be done, some of these heads have been around for a very long time not being utilized so why not? Still most will prefer a brand name with an original design and are willing to pay for that. Prior to these, there are many affordable club heads on the market, just not forged in japan with this quality of grind and finish.

TSG Club Works To Offer OM - Open Model Series
It's heads only, hand stamping as you would see on most putters or wedges, the engraving is nice but in letters and Japanese characters only, there is a small handful of smiley faces, hearts and skulls to choose from. A custom logo can be done but would require a setup fee and logo provided via high Rez imagery by the client.

None of these are available in stainless because most prefer forged.

We can choose depending on what's available and volume. I'm gonna most likely request JIS S20C, S25C, and SS400.

So from here on out Yoro, Miura, Epon, Modart etc. fans will start buying these instead right? That would be nice but I think pigs will fly before that happens. Geotech has been selling Open model heads for years at affordable prices and this is no different in fact a few of the 10 models you will immediately spot that other brands already use. We are simply taking head designs that are readily available, improving them and offering them at great prices, this is good news!

OM-2 Pics Just to put the offset #'s and top line #'s in perspective, some of these have 5.0-5.5FP all the way through the set with a 4mm top line, that's as small as it gets in the muscle back world yet the forgiveness is off the charts. To put the cost into perspective both the OM-1 & OM-2 cost only $650 heads only 4-PW finished in satin, others would stamp a logo on it and charge double.
