  1. I just returned from playing 5 rounds with this setup. IMO the driver performed really well. A few key points: 1. The setup has superb feel - I think as good as anything I have hit. 2. The distance is damn good. Sometimes probably the longest, but most times just right up there in length. 3. Workability - With the high forgiveness, I would expect this to be low. Not true. Despite my shot being a straight ball, I could work it fairly well. 4. Forgiveness - Can't say much more than what has been said by many others. 5. Shaft - Profile fits me well. I really enjoy the kick and feel. Baby draws are easy for me with this shaft. I really stepped on it a few times and didn't suffer much loss of control. 6. Launch - I could vary the launch with how high I tee'd up the ball. Low tees resulted in higher launch. Interesting as I hot it off the fairway a few times. Overall, it flat out works. I am not sure how I would tweak it more. if you have any questions, let me know.
  2. The cb46 is the only one I could find with the 6.7 flex. I thought about the cb80ls but I thought I wouldn't do well with the low 3 torque rating. This is a good combo of both worlds so far.
  3. I can't edomain why but this shaft seems user friendly. The fire express is also great but I need to really hit it to get it going. It is a sr flex. I too was skeptical about the Crazy however spent some time really looking at the specs. The Crazy Black 46 intrigued me because of the slightly softer profile, torque ratings with low spin. I also watched the videos of the Crazy pro testing each shaft. You can see the numbers of his testing if you watch closely. These are on Crazys website. Once I thought this may be a good choice, gocchin helped confirm it was a good choice.
  4. The Premia I built is square face angle so it is the same as ever stock v-spec. obviously the Premia has a gold face and sole. The shape from address is the same. I think the PRemus feels a Tad softer and more powerful. I can't see any difference in spin or forgiveness. The Premia is one degree lower in loft so it would spin a little less.
  5. The Cb46 is easier for me top turn over than the Tj. It has better feeling also. It also seems to be a softer profile. It has been a while since I had the Tj. Let me spend some more time with it over the weekend. I too have the Quadra. I think I prefer this model Crazy to the Quadra.
  6. It is too early to tell. The head is responsible for the forgiveness and the shaft for the distance and control. The stock shaft was easily overcome with a hard swing. It also ballooned for me.
  7. Yesterday I received my Ryoma built to the following specs. It was ordered right before the quake. Originally I wanted a V-spec 9.5, square, 200g head. Gocchin informed me that at that time this spec was "sold out!" I asked about the availability of the Premia in the same specs and he said it was possible. The next issue was picking a shaft. Way back last year I bought a TJ-46 when they were first released. I installed it in my trusty Yamaha 4.6V RPM. Senior forum members may recall that I have had this diver head since December 2008 and it has stayed in the bag despite many many experiments with different shafts. The TJ-46 didn't work for me. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I had a difficult time not blocking it right. Feel was glassy and one that I didn't prefer. For me to consider a Crazy shaft again was a tough decision. However with the new profile choices, and some conversations with Gocchin, the CB 46 seemed like a good fit. I tend to do well with torque ratings in the low 4s. Much lower and I can't turn it over.In the past, I did well with the Bassara Griffin, Matrix Ozik Xcon5, and Roddio WBA6. The Crazy 6.7 has a torque rating of 4.3, 61g. It is described as having the distance of the TJ-46 with the control of the CB 80. In another post, I was the first to demo the Ryoma 10.5 V-spec with stock Graphite Design SR flex shaft (after TourSpecGolfer). I found this to be a formidable combo however too high a traj for me and too spinny. So in the end I ordered a 9.5 to naturally decrease launch and spin with the Crazy CB46 to launch mid to high with low spin. Today was my first day with the club. It was at the range in 48 degree weather. I was with a buddy that saw the first Ryoma demo.Tthe V-spec is all black. The Premia has a golf sole and face. I told him that I had another one of those "expensive" drivers. You should have seen the look on his face when I removed the headcover and the club glowed gold. He said, "Holy s**t!" Lets get down to brass tacks. I hit the club about 30 times. I missed it maybe 3 times. Damn easy to hit period. Here is how I can summarize it: Looks - From address, I like it, alot. I don't know why, but it just makes me feel confident. It frames that ball very well. the golf doesn't affect me either way. Feel - The head feels powerful. I think it feels pretty soft. Not Epon soft, but right up there with some of the best. The Premia does feel a little more lively than the V-spec. The shaft kicks hard. Way different feel than the TJ-46. Much smoother and harder kick. Trajectory - Perfect. Mid flight. from what I can tell should perform well in wind and no wind conditions. No ballooning. As compared to the stock shaft, just what the doctor ordered. Nice angle of descent. Rollout was very good. Performance - I couldn't tell overall distance gains because of the style of my range, however I think it likely very very long. With the low spin and nice carry, roll out will likely cause it to be a distance champ. What stands out is the forgiveness and ease of this club. This shaft allows me baby draws or straight balls. No problems with the right. I tried to overcook it and didn't get it coming to the left. I am very pleased so far. Very predictable. I can't claim huge distance gains yet, but the control and forgiveness has been seen. My guess is that the distance gains will show when I get onto the course with a real golf ball. If I can hit more fairways, and gain some distance in the process, the Ryoma/Crazy combo has won and so have I. More after this weekend.... Specs: Ryoma 9.5* Premia, 200g, square face Crazy CB46, 6.7 flex, 45", D2 swing weight
  8. Time will tell. There are a lot of variable here. If the head is heavy enough is key for the Crazy. No one has posted any feedback on the Crazy CB-46 however I think it looks promising. Distance of TJ-46 with control of CB80. I tend to do well with torque numbers in the lower 4s. As always, if the combo doesn't work, I will try a change!
  9. The Yamaha is not as easy to hit, but is better feeling. Distance can't be compared yet as the Ryoma setup wasn't optimal. I think the Ryoma could excel once paired with the right shaft. I think the Ryoma will let me get away with "normal" swings while the Yammy requires me to swing on target every time. Time will tell. I originally wanted the Ryoma Vspec, but they are out of stock in 9.5 degree, so I just went with the Premia since it was in stock with my specs.
  10. In light of the tough times in Japan lately, I feel guilty writing this review. However I understand that this may be a good diversion for some as well as promote business for TSG. Tario sent me a demo Ryoma. I understand that I am to send the demo club to the next TSG'r which I will on Friday. The specs of the Ryoma are: Vspec, 10.5*, square face angle, stock Graphite Design SR flex shaft, 45.25". Just plain stock specs from Ryoma. This is the exact club that TourSpecGolfer played while in Japan. During my demo, I hit approximately 100 balls at the range and played 27 holes over a few different days. It is a transitional time here as we are struggling to get past winter and into spring. Temps were somewhere around 50 degrees. Looks - I enjoy the shape of the Ryoma from address. For a club design that is so evolved, I expected to see something crazy. Nope not really. Top view was pleasant, unremarkable and nothing crazy as expected. The sole of the club is different. Not disturbing or weird, juts different. I glanced at it and moved onto more important issues. The Vspec is all black. The first all black club I have played. Cool. The alignment appeared square as advertised. Feel - Very good. I didn't have any preconceived notions about feel. I was overwhelmed in how powerful the club feels. The head feels hot. It is best described as solid with a punch. I played it in the wind. i played it in the cold. It always felt explosive. I am not sure it is the face design. I tend to think it is the extreme placement of the center of gravity angle. Sound - One of my playing partners said "I like the sound of that club." Not tinny, not muted. A powerful sound. I don't recall to much about the sound, so I consider that good. Performance - Forgiving as could be. I know that has been said by others. Take as the truth. It is super forgiving. I tend to miss on the toe. I intentionally tee'd the ball high and low. It still performed well. I couldn't quite figure out where to hit it on the face to cause it not to perform. Mysterious I think, but who cares. i don't need to know the science to enjoy the results. It is long. I hit this setup too high. I can't say it ballooned, however in my case I need a lower flight. Still big bombs were had. Maybe not a long as in my younger years, however I can't recall any club which was so automatic. Here is the strange part.....It is still workable. I can't think what is wrong with the club head. It does as they advertise. It does as others have reviewed. Maybe it launches higher than another club with the same loft. But spin appears reasonable. In my case, I think the shaft is pretty good, but no an exact fit. It likely fits 70% of the audience, however I could "overcook" it if I wanted. I think that so many would benefit from the Ryoma head matched with the correct shaft. I could see this club being a monster with the right shaft fit. I am not sure if TSG will benefit from selling this club or not. Many will buy it and love it for a long time. the club ho'ing days for many will be over. Purist may not like the club as it is designed differently. If they actually hit it, I bet some will convert. Please don't take this review as the second coming. the Ryoma is a great club. It does work well. I excels in the areas I need it to perform well. I do think there are likely many companies with this driver head split open on their design tables. I am intriqued by the Ryoma. So now I am waiting for my order to arrive. Ryoma Premia, 9.5*, 200g head, square face, 45.25", Crazy CB-46 SR (6.7) flex. Time will tell.
  11. We all have been watching the news. Even though we may not have shared a beer with each other, we are emotionally attached to fellow members and it is tough for us to sit and wait for some unknown result (good or bad) to happen. All we know if life is different that it was 2 weeks ago. If we are scared from afar, those living I it must be terrified. The media in the US is fsamous for poor reporting of the facts. They carefully choose the use of words including omitting key words iwhich changes the message. The constant repeating of messages can cause people to take what they say as fact. Yesterday there was much public debate about the seriousness of the reactor issues, however nothing was discuss about the unstable plates of the earth and possiblility of another large EQ event, etc. To leave the area or not isn't clear cut for most. If Gocchin leaves and something more serious developes he made a good move. If it doesn't get worse he still maybe has made a good move. If he stays and it gets worse, then he has a problem. A short term answer may be to relocate for a short time to the south. Watch the next few weeks and make the next decision. In either case make a decision and set you mind free. Don't second guess yourself. Be smart, use the facts as you know them, and consider what is best for you amd the family.
  12. Everything I can find says the Quadra DGL-115S plays stiff. Their spec chart shows a 7 iron, standard length CPMs at 350. I wanted to test one before buying the whole set! How do the Crazy irons shafts spec out? I know their torque rating is higher Than the Quadra.
  13. https://www.paypal-donations.com/pp-charity/web.us/campaign.jsp?cid=-12 Here is a paypal link for donating although I am sure TSG will find some worthy charities also.
  14. When you find a way let me know. I have been trying for a long long time. Only 3, 4, or wedge available by single piece.
  15. The events of the past 24 hours and the unknown issues of the future are testing the core strengths and values of every person involved. Living here in the US near Washington DC, where natural disasters are common, but largely uneventful, it hits home when our friends and there family undergo such turmoil. I am not sure of everyones names and the their whereabouts in Japan, however I bet that someone close to someone is struggling. Our heart goes out to you and your family and friends. I would like to say hang it there, but that sounds so cliche, but I guess it is what is true. Now, as a human race, we need to somehow pull together, drop the boxing gloves and lend a hand and heart to each other. I feel hopeless sitting here. I have my family safe. I can kiss my wife, hug my kids, and pet my dogs. Many can't. With the unknown fallout from the nuclear reactor, times may become tougher. Damn. I am not sure what can be done. I pray that somehow they will move people out and away from harms way. Just know that we are with you in your journey and share your pain as much as possible, even though we are so far away.
  16. Mornings pics are emerging. Really bad. We should have everyone in Japan that we know here on TSG to report in that they are safe. Gocchin - We haven't heard from you in 9 hours.
  17. Glad to hear you are ok Gocchin. Tsunami's are expected to hit Pacific islands, Hawaii and California. Likely not anything large, but time will tell.
  18. I know Gocchin (Tario) lives in Chiba which I believe is across the Tokyo Bay from Tokyo. This is on the east coast and south of the epicenter of the earthquake. Approx. 4 hours south. I can't find much information on the effects of the quake on Chiba however it is a large peninsula and likely subject to flooding. Lets pray for the people of Japan, our friends at TSG and their friends and family.
  19. Stew, I called here and left her a message. She did not answer but her phone answering machine did. I told her that you and your family were ok and that you would contact her once the phones and internet resumed. I also gave her my phone number and email address. I will call her if you have any news for me to report. Thanks, Bob
  20. I have the demo here in Maryland. I took it to the range Saturday. I must say, yes it is so easy to hit, almost automatic. What surprised me was the powerful feel that it had. My miss is towards the toe. These created a slight draw. I knew they we slightly missed, but if on a course, my playing partners would never know. It is a very nice looking club from address. I never noticed the funny sole design. I will likely buy one, but I am not sure what to shaft it with: Quadra FE, Crazy or my JPGA Griffin. I almost think it could be a monster with a Matrix Ozik Xcon5 (I know this is politically incorrect) I will test it on the course Wednesday then ship it off the next demonstrator.
  21. As far as Yamaha, I believe in them 100%. I have owned wach Tour model for the past 4 years. Based on your specs and desires, I must say the Yamaha Tours are spot on. The Epon 302s are also right there. Both Endo forged. The issue with Yamaha is the availability. Only 1200 sets. Both are extremelly excellent. I prefer the Yamaha feel and look at address. It is slightly more compact than the 302. Where in the US are you? PM me as we could be close thus I could show you the Yamaha 2011 Tour irons. With some magic, maybe TSG can source you a set.

    Yes you have the address.
  23. bogeydog replied to idrive's post in a topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
For my wallet I am hoping for the Epon!
  24. Fun stuff there. You are a movie star Stew!

    Are these Yamaha or Yonex?
