  1. i'm interested in the CB1006 versus 301's, both excellent irons. my pick would be the tournament blades if I can actually hit those without losing distance.
  2. Ajay, there's a large gap between your PW and 52. do you grip down? gripping down never works for me for some reason.
  3. you didn't give any feedback on the irons

ah, ok...i use gorilla grip...it's been great

Backspin9, where can you get crossline blacks for 2.50? can someone justify for me spending $15-20 on iomics versus $6 on Multicompounds, $4 on crosslines, or $2 on tour velvets? is there that much of a difference. I have an iomic on a hybrid, though I love the spicy color and tackyness, I don't know if it's really worth the $20. Perhaps it'll be easier once I start gripping softer so grips last longer.
  6. shouldn't the line or mark from the ball that gets imprinted to the face of your irons be vertical or perpendicular to the sole for a proper lie angle and not just at the center of the club face? I've always used a lie board, perhaps I should try this with all my clubs.

there aren't really that many sets for sale. I've owned the J's and the R7's and I preferred the R7's over the J's. There are a lot of guys that have back up sets. I sold mine because I needed something more forgiving, I went with the Type S which has a larger cavity. It's actually good news for you, you can pick them up for cheap.

  9. you're right, I forgot I was dealing with a bunch of Ho's.. in that case, I say go for it =)
  10. what did you disagree with me on? correcting his swing flaw first before buying, the whiteboard not being for him, or the stiff flex isn't for him? ss of 95mph puts him in the stiff category, especially if you're talking the Japan version, but you still need to be able to load the shaft. I never said the white was hard to hit. I just thought it's better to find out why one is hitting too high with no lag first before buying something that may or may not fit you. $40 for a launch monitor fitting sessions is cheaper than $300 for a shaft plus install.
  11. based on the info you have provided, minimal lag, slow tempo, slow transition, you're going to need a regular flex. If you're getting too high of a ball flight, it's probably because you're gle of attack is down instead of up. Most of the time this is because you're coming over the top with an open face causing your poor shots to be slices and sometimes you'll get a pull. I don't know if this makes sense to you. With you swingspeed and ability to load a shaft, I don't know if going to a whiteboard it going to help you. I'd recommend getting some lessons to correct the swing and maybe go to a blue or red when you can correct your angle of attack. Again, this is all just a guess based on what I've seen and experienced and many lessons. I'd first get fitted to determine your angle of attack and how much of it is a swing flaw before buying such an expensive combo. Don't correct a swing flaw with a shaft profile, rather correct your swing flaw and enhance it with the right shaft. You'll find more distance and much greater consistency. Hope this helps. I'm not en expert, keep that in mind.
  12. it's not stiff to me and my ss is 98, to me 95 seems to work better since this shaft is smooth i don't know the exact cpm. it really depends on how aggressive your transition is. this shaft has a good torque rating with feel, perhaps a tipped regular will suit you as well. it's hard to make recommend without understanding your swing. i'd get fitted. so far this is th ebest combo for me.
  13. Bat, would you say you're sticking with your Type S over the 701?
  14. thanks for backing me up, thought it was just me going nuts for a second. is there a way to tell which model has what type of material?
  15. i saw the white head cover with the red riding hood design and black internal fur, i think red velcro. yes, I've mentioned the stitching was nice, I was just referring the the cover it self, the outer shell compared to the retail scotty Circa headcover in red. perhaps the newer models are soft like the circa?

I've always wondered how these putter covers where and I liked the design, so I dropped by a local store that had two in stock. I was disappointed at the quality of material used for the outer cover. The stitching and soft material used for the inside was nice but the material used on the outside was very hard and plasticy. I compared it to a Scotty Cameron cover made by AME and they were a lot softer. Perhaps it's just a design difference but I'm glad I didn't splurge on a comocome. I don't know what other experiences others have had. Oh btw..the owner of the store also had the same sentiment.
  17. i remember watching that movie, it was very advanced in terms of animation for the 1980's. Anyways, those irons look good, just don't like the Star Trek thing, but I guess its not worse than the Epon box =)
  18. wow, I really like the AF-701's, they look nice. They look like a chubby little iron head, still nice. can't wait for some reviews and comparisons to last year's offerings.
  19. I can't wait to try the Epon 3W and soon I'll have a set of Type S coming to complete my JDM bag. I'm having good luck with the X-UTs and probably going to keep my David Whitlam putter and Sun Mountain C-130 cart bag. Sorry for changing my own topic. Please let me know if you find that info on the lead tape placement. I can always learn more. thanks Jackson
  20. Thanks Gocchin, I just wanted to see what a 73g would do for me since I'm using a 63g. Oh btw.. You were right Gocchin, I kept the Epon and after giving it some time, I've lowered my ball flight and it's a nice balanced setup that's very forgiving with great feel. I have a Epon 3w coming in the mail with the Quattro 85. thanks again, Jackson
  21. hi, does anyone know the proper place to put lead tape on the shaft to turn a 63g into a 73g? i'm wondering how a 73 g will perform. thanks Jack
  22. Looks like Ed already bought John's Type S on ebay for a steal! Good job. I can't wait to see the new line coming soon. We all got a glimpse from an avatar a few weeks ago, what a tease =)
  23. What are you looking more of? (forgiveness, height, length, specific sole grind, setup, offset, etc..) the R7 is more of a players cavity back and the Type S has an undercut on the mid to longer irons. I've seen more people sell Type S than R7 Forged overall, not sure if it really means anything, I use to own a set of Type J's, didn't work for me. The Black gold and Nippons are different so you have to find the shaft for you. The Nippons generally is lighter and feels softer where the BG's are boardie and heavier. I currently own both shafts, good shafts, but different. As far as the Type S, Chris is having an excellent sale on them, under 900 for a new set. Someone had a Type S with spined Black Golds on ebay 2 weeks ago for 700 and no one bought them. All just data points, you really have to pinpoint on what you're looking for. Both are good irons. The R7 Forged are just special, many guys on TSG have multiple R7 Forged sets. I've never seen one go for cheap, I truly think they will hold value. A new sexy Epon line of irons are coming out, hence the year end sale.
  24. why are you swapping out the mx25 for an mx23?

thanks iDrive for the useful information. sounds like you're advocating no more than 2 degrees bend in lofts. I personally don't like the strong lofts only because of the gaps but if I weaken them, the trajectory will be higher than designed. tough choice.
