Heavy Putter Shaft - what weight head?
gocchin replied to mygreenaliem's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
The beauty Carl of making your putter from scratch is you are not forced into counterbalancing if the swing weight is way too high. We will be able to calculate all the parts and make the right headweight for you paired with your shaft of choice and grip. Gold's tends to build on the very high swing weight side which is good for distance and feel but not so great on really fast greens. While in the west every one says swing weight, here in Japan people always say balance which is perfect for describing what we want to achieve in a club, the right balance. -

V, sounds good especially the trajectory. The higher tee will give a slightly higher launch as the higher tee probably catches the ball higher on the face resulting in a bit more spin. Also further forward and higher will result in more of an upwards blow giving a higher launch as well. This is actually good you experimented as now you know you can control trajectory by the tee height and utilize the lower tee on windy days. There is always some adjustment period but initial impressions sound great for both head and shaft! Good to hear the D is quite forgiving as that is what I find as well. Good luck tomorrow! -
FW01 Evolution is softer, and made for slower swingers who want light and easier to load and swing. The FW80 is more than 10+ grams heavier and quite a bit stiffer overall.

198g at 45" and D7 doesn't sound right. 198g at 45" is more like D0 maybe D2 with the heavy RIP. Is 198g not including the sleeve? X-Line very straight, great match for the head but also stiff for you. Is 225-230 carry? -
TRPX is a brand new design, and designed by TRPX made by Jbeam. The 435 and 435II are older models (especially the 435 which is 4 years old) and designed by Jbeam. Though I will admit the 435 is legendary. The TRPX ordering thread is here: http://www.tourspecg...-and-customers/ It is being offered to forum members at a special price first and will go in the store later this month. D or S depends on you. I made a comparison here: http://www.tourspecg...ual-comparison/ The XV is a good driver but for almost the same price the TRPX also comes with a high modulus carbon shaft which is considerably better than the stock XV shaft. I like the XV a lot, it feels good, is very straight. But I bag the TRPX for a reason. Its longer.

If you go lighter in swing weight it would create less spin. Higher swing weight means the head is heavier and more active as this added weight increases the tip action. This creates more spin and higher launch especially for the aggressive swinger or one with lag and late release. If you like the more traditional shape of the 913 D3, you should look at the TRPX D-013 or the Crazy 435. Your distance 225-230 however dictates closer to a regular flex (though is that carry?). That RIP at 70g and stiff doe sound way too stiff. Your Titleist head must be super heavy to get D7 at 45". (or you are using an ultra light grip). I'm inclined to say D-013 9.5* with a Messenger SR or S but but it depends on how aggressive you really are. Also swing weight is very personal, affect on spin and launch is not too significant but more of an impact on feel during the swing for the player and for some how the club loads especially if its a heavy head. -
All the drivers mentioned are good. Of the two you mentioned the XV might be better but if that were the case I would suggest you try the TRPX, with the right shaft, the TRPX can be longer than all these drivers, Ryoma included.

If you want new just get it from us and we will ship to your hotel. If you want used... you actually get better deals from members here on the forum than many shops here in Japan. mainstream used shops like Golf Partner have a lot of stuff but are pricey!
-
Yes definitely that is part of it... you mean the empty shop in Ginza. (^_^)

There no longer is an HS version. The HS produced more spin. The FW80 is not newer, its been around a while but still one of the best out there for FW's.

So its the fall season here in Japan and the big mainstream brands, Mitsubishi Rayon, Fujikura and Graphite Design are all releasing new shafts. The Diamana W series was already released a couple of months ago and now they have an all new Diamana series fairway wood. In the past fairway wood shafts basically came from the Fubuki line but now Diamana has released a Thump FW shaft. Feels like just yesterday Graphite Design released the GT series and now the already have the new MT series coming out next month. Supposedly a cross between the explosive distance of the GT and the control of a BB. It is.... yellow! Fujikura's new Motore Speeder line, a revival of older Speeder shafts, remade to modern specs with modern materials and manufacturing. They have launched already to huge fanfare in Japan with lots of stock shortages. A lot of hardcore enthusiasts and smaller shops in Japan choose to go with smaller high end brands like Crazy, TRPX, Quadra, Waccine Compo and others as the high modulus boom is here to stay. Looking forward myself to trying some Thump FW shafts and glad to see such a wide range of weights!

As you all know being an online retailer we don't usually stock many clubs (if any at all) as its impossible to with over 1500 products (multiply that by every loft, flex, color, size, etc and we are talking hundreds of thousands of products). The man does not always heed the words of others... he is in his own world when it comes to club designs.... I just pray he lets us see his designs before they go final so we can twist his arm for tweaks...

Callaway began shipping their new Legacy Black iron this month right after Henrik Stenson won the Fedex Cup using last years Legacy Black. Of course suddenly everyone wanted last years model and the two sets we had left over sold instantly (we are trying to get more). Demos of the entire new Legacy line up showed up at my house today and the first club I pulled out was the iron. I reviewed last years model here: http://www.golftoimpress.com/callaway-legacy-black-forged-iron-review/ It was an awesome all around performer satisfying enough for the pro player but forgiving enough for the improving golfer. The new model is much in the same mode and features a similar size and profile though less scorelines and a slightly different finish. Both irons feature pocket style cavities and utilize, Callaways VAR (vibration absorping) medallion. I hit a few quick shots with it and like the way it sets up and feels though some may think its too much offset. Like its predecessor, its blade is short from heel to toe and does not have the thinnest of toplines which actually inspires confidence. Need to get some playing time with all the Legacy clubs before I review them but in the mean time snapped some quick shots as always!

Michael, They Fairway woods are still in prototype so there is no release date yet. The Fairway wood shafts will be designed specifically for fairway woods but may share some of the characteristics of the messenger ie materials and cross weave design. The Fairway wood will be an original like the driver. -
B, We have two sets left of 4-PW Modus3 Stiff here. They are sold out at BS already. If you want a set email me and I'll give you a real good price. T

Richard I think its trajectory, but for me personally at the end of the day I don't loose much from carrying a 5W only and no 3W. The shorter length of the 5W allows for better contact and very similar distance. The 5W is very easy to get up off the fairway.

I guess I should have introduced myself. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada where I worked at BMO for over a decade holding a position of Senior Technology Specialist before I left. I joined TSG over 5 years ago at which time I also began golf. My wife who is from Japan, and I jumped at the chance to move back to Japan and we were able to get a house in a golf community here in Oamishirasato, just outside of Tokyo in Chiba prefecture: http://www.tokyu-golf-resort.com/kimi/ We're also about a 15-20 minute drive away from the huge stretch of beaches in Kujukuri where surfers convene almost every day and a 45-60 min express bus to Tokyo Station which I frequent 2-3 times a month for meetings with brands. TSG is lots of fun but most of you know I work around the clock, every day for pretty much 365 days a year. It's a pleasure though to have met so many great golf enthusiasts all around the world online here and in person, and be able to help overcome (or shall I say fuel) their addiction for high end golf clubs!
-
This is a good idea, we are a tight knit community, why not get a bit more personal. While this doesn't actually belong in the JDM Club section I'll let it say and pin it up. Ben I changed the title to reflect an introduction thread. A bit about yourself, where you are from, what you do, what you play, your golf background would be great. How much you write is of course up to you!

Ashim, that looks awesome!!! And the driver is awesome for you as well. Great course, great play... you can't ask for more. I can't wait for them to release their fairway wood which is in the works! -
If anything the wedges do have some popularity. The woods not so much though admittedly I have not tested them. Our account with them is still active so perhaps I can give a few of their clubs a run.
-
We do carry their grips and can get the clubs as well. They are a smaller brand which we have reviewed a few times over the years and could not seem to find any demand for them.
