Yonex Tri-G 445cc
Okay, this is my first time trying a Yonex club since playing a whole bag full of Yonex clubs with the 2011 eZone series. I had the 380 driver, eZone ST fairway, Zero DI, EZone MB irons and Wedges and even a EZone putter. They were sooooo good!! I think this Tri-G driver is from last year. I was watching a Youtube video with Hyo Joo Kim ( one of the best swings in golf!! ) and got interested in trying it. So these come in 460cc and 445cc both feature SP700 face and Carbon Crown. but the body are made of different material. 460 uses 8-1-1 Ti and the 445 used 6-4 Ti. The composition of the head sounds similar to my Grandista Ver S. I got the 445cc head. I have tried drivers with sliding weights in the past and the problem with them were that when you place the weight one way and shift it to the other end, the feel when you swing the club changes drastically. To maintain more consistent swing feel, this Tri-G uses concentric adjustable weights where the weight adjustment occurs along the concentric line centered at the hosel. The biggest sell of this driver is that you are supposed to be able to control the amount of back spin with how you place different weights in three weight ports positioned concentrically. Default weights were 2g, 2g, 12g . Placing the 12g weight at the front most port gives you least spin. If you want higher launch and higher spin, place the 12g to the back. Anyway, while I won't actually be able to hit it outside for another few weeks, I thought I's share some pics . It actually looks pretty good. Reminds me of the P-Tune PG-313 but perhaps a tad deeper. I would say this is a semi-deep head. The other thing I have in plan fo this hread is to use 12g weights for all three ports. Head weight would be around 220g!! We'll see how this works as a shortly driver!

A-Grind Y-PROTO Driver
No disrespect for this pro or anything ... but I thought it was interesting that they used an initial from a pro who just made it thru the Japan tour qualifying tournament. Good or bad... you decide,,,, but I have not seen any other company do that.

A-Grind Y-PROTO Driver
Can this head be had in uber heavy weights? say 210g to 220g? A 9 deg 215g, at 44 inches could make this a deadly accurate fairway sniper!

Dogatti PT shaft
Right on, Stew-san!! I think this putter shaft works well with any head from a functional performance standpoint , but when it comes to feel, I think it might better match a head with very soft feel. Carbon steel or something with a softer insert. If you use it on a firm feeling putter, I think the shaft just amplifies that firmness. But then again, feel is subjective so, you may actually like the pronounced firmness.

Persimmon anyone?
I remember the gold plug thing a few years back. Was really stupid. Louisville Golf still makes persimmons some more modernized than others.

Suggestions for shafts - A Grind UT Proto 17*
I have a TRPX UT-8 in my 21.5 deg Buchi driving iron and to Chris's point I have a 1 cross flex and it feels plenty of shaft to me. At this flex, I can feel the weight of the head and shaft loads up very nicely with a good kick at impact. I really like this shaft. Would use it for any utility iron or hybrid. My other driving iron is a 20 deg Fourteen Type 7 and I have a Crazy STP 85g in it. It is lower launching than the TRPX but I think it would work well in windy conditions. More of a control shaft than a distance shaft.

Grandsita's RS-F is VERY Good!
I think the Basi Alpha is a higher launching shaft. My opinion is that this head is higher launching to begin with, but I can only speak to a 16.5deg 3 wood that I have. For a 14deg head, maybe you would want a higher launching shaft, can't say for sure. for my 16.5 head, I started with a Basi Beta FW but it was a bit spinny and launching higher than expected. So I switched it out with a Kurokage XT 80S. Low spin, Low Launch is how it is supposed to be. Another change I made was the weight screw. Went from the default 4g weight to a 10g weight. Overall head weight is 216g up from 210g I like heavier weight in my FW. I am not entirely sure how this weight change affects trajectory or spin. I did notice that with the heavier weight screw, the sound at impact changed a bit. less sustained "ting" and now a shorter a bit more muted sound which I welcome. I think maybe the 4g and 10g screws are made of different material. 4g is more shiny and 10g is a bit more antique brass looking.

A-Grind Y-PROTO Driver
When I do comparisons between larger 460cc heads vs a smaller one ( I have an older 365cc driver ) I do notice slight increase in head speed with the smaller head. So in my experience, smaller head usually equals faster head speed. Maybe it's a function of the size of the face in which case, a shallower faced head may travel faster due to reduced drag?

Wow!

A-Grind Y-PROTO Driver
From the looks of it, perhaps a sibling to the 440 driver but shallower?

A-Grind Y-PROTO Driver
According to this article on GEW, looks to be a shallow head at 410cc. The request from the Pro who collaborated with the design was to be able to tee up the ball lower and to be able to swing it like a fairway wood yet does not look small at address. So maybe a similar concept to the S Yard T.388 or maybe Mystery CF-425 Tour? http://www.gew.co.jp/news/maker/16020920886.php

blaSTS FROM THE paSTS....
I was actually reading up on older Yonex forged and did come across this one. I believe these have internal cavities with elastomer in it. Yonex back in those days made darn nice forged irons.

Can an inexpensive shaft work for you?
just got me some used DG S200.

Freiheit The G Driver
I think it depends on what type of driver you like. Grandista looks pretty traditional at address and looks like a players driver, but in fact it is more forgiving than it looks. Before this driver, I had the Epon AF153 ... probably equal forgiveness. but Epon is higher launching. I just picked up a Yonex Tri G 445 cuz I was interested to know if the adjustable weight actually worked to optimize spin. Other than that, I really don't have eyes on anything else at the moment. SInce I got fitted for the Seven Dreamers shaft using this Grandista head, I hope to keep this driver for along time. :) If you like tradtional looks with modern performance and forgiveness, I highly recommend this head.

I tried to find some feedback on Japanese blogs .. unfortunately could not find much. they look really nice!!

Graphite design in a DI
I used to use heavier shafts with my DIs but I am using 85g shafts now in hopes of being able to launch the ball higher. I moved away from using hybrids because of the occasional hookys I got... So I am using DIs but still want to get it to stop on the greens. Thus, the lighter shaft.

Graphite design in a DI
220 yard carry with a 20deg DI is a good number, I think I only get about 205 to 210 yards with my 20 deg Fourteen Type 7 DI with Crazy STP 85g shaft.

Srixon ZR-30 - Matsuyama still gaming
looking back at the tracman data... the notable performance was actually the ball speed . This head was 2 to 3 mph faster on average. The stats were 103 mph swing speed, 155 mph ball speed , 9deg launch angle , 2800 rpm backspin, 250 yards carry. it was a 8.5deg head combined with a Miyazaki Kusala Black 61 X , so very low launch. in fact , too low. Totally wrong spec for me. If I do it again today, I'd probably go 9.5 deg head, same shaft but 72 S.

Srixon ZR-30 - Matsuyama still gaming
Matsuyama tries all the new Srixon drivers when they come out but seem to go back after a couple of weeks. I also noticed his WITB , iron shafts are now S400 instead of X100. To Srixon: "You need to come out with a new driver that works for Matsuyama soon. He is not gonna stay happy being 20-30 yards behind other players all the time!!" On a side note, Ricky's 340 yard drives were pretty amazing using that new Cobra driver with the see thru cap on the sole. :) He still uses the original Diamana Whiteboard I believe.

Srixon ZR-30 - Matsuyama still gaming
agree with Ian. I did a 8 driver shootout on trackman a couple of years ago and Zr30 combined with a Miyazaki shaft came in 2nd to P-tune pg313 in distance. Other contenders included Titleist 913d2 , yamaha 4.6 rpm, baldo vt511, kamui 456 and Ryoma Maxima type V. It had consistently higher ball speeds off the face. and even though it's an older model , it had already incorporated somewhat of a forward cg design like the TM sldr of more recent years so it was lower spinning. As Ian says, Sweet spot is not huge, but feel, and sound, looks are superb. After Matsuyama came to US PGA tour, market price has gone up on used zr30s. Used to be able to pick these up at very reasonable prices.
