  1. The cut-outs look a little like what Nike seems to be pursuing with drivers. Curious what the benefits are.
  2. Look forward to hearing what this one is like. Agree the 440 is under discussed. It has a great soft thwack sound and feel to it, and it's long and straight, straight, straight. Great looking, too. Love the matte black finish he puts on clubs.

    Thanks, D. 'luck, man! ;=]

Interesting idea. I haven't yet, but I suppose if I like one more than the other for, say, the long irons or short irons, a combo could figure in... Oh, the possibilities... I believe Kierkegaard (who was well known for playing golf under the midnight sun in the summer months...) called it "the sickness unto death..." ;=]
  5. Okay, so with Part 1, the virgin Personal-2's putting me almost down for the ho'-ing count, Part 2 steps into the picture. I picked up this wonderful set of OnOff CB247 heads earlier in the year from one of our TSG boyz down under, but I realized I had the chance of my golfing lifetime to do an experiment that I've always wondered about. I guess my partiality to the feel of copper irons is obvious by now, but since I consider these 247's the softest feel I've ever laid hands on iron-wise, I was curious -- could these be something I liked steel shafts in, which normally I don't respond to with the same love I feel for composites, the Fuji MCI's in particular...? Enter Modus-3 Tour 105's, which Chris introduced me to several weeks ago when they came available on the market. Maybe the lighter weight, which I tend to favor all through my bag, would bring me around when paired with the OnOff marshmallows. So I talked to my good friend and trusted club builder, Gary Gooden, aka here @ Goodsie, to get his opinion, and he agreed the 247's would be the babies to try this on. So I dutifully sent them off to him for his magic tuning touch, and he shot them back to me last week all spined and flo'd. Bottom line? The verdict is still out. These things also feel like light sabres. There is a little more of the vibration that puts me off of steel most times, but the Modus-3 seems to have dealt with this, at least in the lighter 105 weight, in a way that works better for me. These shafts make the 247's launch higher and, for me with my slow tempo, with very nice control and feel. The MCI shafted P2's still seem longer, but not hugely smoother as I expected. In short, I have myself a nice dilemma. And I'll be curious to see how each feels in the cold(er) winter play (albeit still in the year round climate of S.Cal...). So, kind of a dual nirvana for me at the moment... And I'm not complaining...

I keep telling myself that... ;=]

I wouldn't mess with that bag either! <g> But the A-Grind 440 driver, which doesn't seem to get any buzz, is the kind of delicious soft that produces that ideal sounding and feeling t-h-w-a-c-k. I've only hit it a few times, but every time is straight, straight, straight -- and nice and long. Amazing driver for the price.

Sweet bags -- nice! -- esp the top one!! Totally agree about the A-Grind hybrids. Wonderful, workable, long, and stop-able. All the A-Grind clubs are quietly under rated, IMO.
  9. What's the size of the OnOff head?

Mas thx, guys. I played them yesterday and was totally zoned. Very soft feel and yet a lot of stopping spin on greens. Felt different than before the copper. Simultaneously more touch and more friction. Walking back to my bag a couple of times, I had to just smile. Like having a bag of light sabres. Will try to grab a pic of that too. Look great in Calif afternoon Oct light. Big props to the TSG Works guys, Chris.

Actually I agree, w. I've said this before, but my favorite Porsche is one covered in mud... <g> And I love the look of copper'd clubs as they patina and turn worn. Will put these babies in the dirt by next week (at the latest).

Thx, guys. I've been sleeping with the 6-iron at night. ( And yes, the cat loves them as well. Priceless. )

My thanks to you, B, for the pre-unicorn originals.

Thanks, Mikey. I've been testing a bunch of shafts lately, and went with MCI's, which I still favor, even love.
  15. I dreamed I was there in Copper Golf Heaven then I picked up a set of virgin Epon Personal 2's talked to Chris sent them to TSG Clubworks for Satin Copper refinish and Heaven was delivered to me for real wanted to post a few pics of the virgin set before I take it outside and dirty it up
  16. I'll go with the Cally. This makes no sense to me.
  17. S-Yard XV 3 or 5.
  18. All right, guys, let's work this out then, and I can have the shafts pulled over the weekend. I'll PM you both now.
  19. Great description of A-Grinds, totally agree. And how are you finding those Honma's?
  20. Great bag -- congrats. How do you like the A-Grind driver and woods?
  21. Gorgeous-- all of them. Enjoy your choice dilemma.
  22. Thanks, you guys. I'm with you, and like the way you both put it, too -- the 7D's "sneaky long, smooth, electric, and refined feel." I'm still amazed at the way it seems to adapt to my different swings on different days -- as if it can isolate my swing's strengths in just about whatever I throw its way, whereas with other shafts I've often felt in conflict, like I was wrestling with them at least on some days. My driving has become way more consistent with the 7D, which has raised my confidence, which has lowered my scores. Oh yeah, and I don't mind the longer part either... ;=]
  23. Not to jack the thread, but D, how would you compare the AAA to the 7D? I was hoping to hear from Nob on this, but then his wrist got in the way...
  24. Probably only you can answer whether you want to feel both before taking the 7D plunge. I think most of us here are familiar with loving a club and then wondering about something else... <g> I can certainly testify that the Blackout with 7D is a monster of both distance and feel. Others, I know, say the same about the ZY11. In the end, I doubt you could go wrong with either.
